Here is the lovely Shadow at 22years young he had his first sheath clean/health check.
There was no reason behind the clean, just the fact while i was attending the yard for others, Shadows mummy thought he might as well be done too for curiosity.
Shadow has always appeared very clean naturally to his owner, and therefore didn’t feel the need to have him cleaned, well on the outside yes maybe….but what was lying within his urethra fossa (the pocket at the tip of the p***s above the urethra)…. This little delightful bean!!
Less is more with the sheath and therefore totally understand the owners views on not needing him cleaned, however these beans can be tucked away and sometimes not visible. It’s also the health check side it’s good for peace of mind to have them health checked once a year to know all is nice and healthy within there 😀

At 17 years young I treated the lovely Bert yesterday to his first clean and health check. Before performing a clean I always like to get a bit of a background on the horse and whether the clean is just maintenance or does the owner have any concerns.
The reason for Bert’s clean was because his mummy had noticed he kept kicking up his belly, so as a process of elimination the sheath was one of them…well look what was hiding up there! This annoying little friend! Needless to say Bert is feeling a lot better now 😀🐴🥰

SHEATH CLEANING 🐴🐴

For all your mare and geldings hygiene needs!!

As well as a clean I am also providing a health check of the area and any abnormalities detected are then referred to your vet for them to proceed with further!

* I am full insured with KBIS (the only insurers for sheath cleaning) including care custody and control.
* Holiding my BTEC equine veterinary nursing
* Veterinary trained
* A diploma in equine intimate health
* I only use water based products
* Card payments can be take on site
* But most importantly of all I have lots of patience working with each horse individually, and at their pace!!

Dates for January and February being taken!

It’s the start of a new year, so why not begin the year by giving your geldings and mares a nice freshen up and health check. Would be great to know they are bean free, healthy and comfortable ready for the year ahead! 😀🐴

So nice to be doing just as many mares as geldings!

Yea mares get Beans too!!

Mares get beans in and around their cl****is. They're not comparable to boy beans in terms of size but can still cause discomfort. They also have a number of small pockets of skin just inside their ge***al areas which fill up with calcified urine, dust, and dirt. Which can all be a constant source of irritation.
Not all mares or geldings show signs of having beans as they come to live with having this build up, however some signs that your mare may have a ‘bean’ that needs removal is if she’s itchy and rubbing her tail a lot (but you know you’ve wormed her), or even bucking or kicking which is out of character. Grumpy being groomed or touched around her teats.
Just like the geldings not all mares produce beans but most do.

Not forgetting their udders too! The udders produce a build of sweat, dirt, oils which turns to a hard waxy build up, making it very uncomfortable causing irritation, and pinching. This must be bathed with warm water and water based lubricants to bring this substance away gently. You most certainly don’t want to pull and pick at it!

Another week done! More horses feeling great after their annual sheath clean and health check, lots of regulars which is great and fab to meet lots of new clients too!!

My last call of the day yesterday had these beans removed from two gorgeous boys!

Not all horses produce beans but lots do, just a reminder that Beans are a build up urine, skin cells, sm**ma which all calcifies in the urethra fossa, a pocket which sits above the urethra, these beans CANNOT come out on their own hence why they grow in size!

By having 6 monthly or yearly sheath cleans/health checks (no more than this is needed) will prevent the build up of these beans getting to big, which keeps our boys comfortable and peace of mind for us owners that their boys are nice and healthy clinically!

Big lack of input on here lately sorry! It’s ’Bean’ another crazy week or shall I say last couple of months have been great 👍🏻 treating so many your wonderful mares and geldings!
