Nothing hound dog about these pampered pooches:
Miss Tilly (Cockapoo)
Miss Trinity (King Charles Cavalier)
Mr Gwilym (Cavachon)
Miss Gwen (Cavachon)
Mr Hugo (Frenchie)
Rupert the dachshund also popped in. However, he found his first time a little overwhelming so we let him watch cousin Hugo endure the pampering and well ease him in gently.

It’s important to clean every dog’s coat before clipping. This not only protects the hairs but also the equipment used.
Removing dirt from the coat means it will dry faster, feel softer and clip much more easily.
Every dog gets a double shampoo, a strawberry & vanilla conditioning shampoo for the wavy/curly coated breeds and a rhubarb & rose degreasing shampoo for the silky coated (Poppy the Spaniel).
The first shampoo removes a build up of dirt and oil from the coat and the second nourishes and cleans right down to the skin, allowing the shampoo to do what it says on the bottle.
A clean coat that is well prepared (bathed, dried & brushed correctly) makes for a much nicer trim.

De-shed
Wash that “dirt” right outta your hair …..
Our resident BFG (yes, that’s big friendly giant), Ghost is a white German Shepard who visits the studio regular for a freshen up.
A double coated breed, think .. husky/corgi/chow-chow/Pomeranian/Border collie (the list goes on), these dogs have fur that grows in two layers.
The undercoat is shorter and grows much faster than the topcoat, which is longer and grows much slower.
Unless it’s for medical reasons you should avoid shaving double coated breeds as it ruins the coat.
However, regular grooming keeps the coat and skin clean whilst reducing (not stopping) moulting in the home. Double coated breeds that are not brushed become compacted and store dirt.
After a nail trim Ghost, although rather reluctantly (the bath is not his favourite), had a marshmallow facial and de-shedding treatment to help loosen his coat.
We then spritzed Ghost with a detangling treatment to condition the coat and aid drying before raking his coat to remove as much of the loose undercoat as possible.
A splash of cologne to finish up and he’s looking suave to strut his way out of the studio …. Until next time.

Nail trimming
Is it important to trim a dogs nails??
In short, the answer is YES!! It’s actually very important.
There are 320 bones in a dog (321 bones in the boys) and 100 of these bones make up the feet. Each little paw has 25 bones, it’s a fairly complicated system.
Every time the nail touches the ground a shock is sent through the dog with the nail bed acting like a shock absorber. When the dog runs, the nails bend and dig into the foot.
If the nail is left to get too long, the shock absorber isn’t effective enough and the nail will push back too far, hitting the delicate bones within the foot.
Overtime this causes lots of problems for your dog, inviting early onset arthritis is a fairly common one.
Younger dogs may be fine for a time but older dogs and larger breeds will gradually loose interest in going for walks (it becomes painful for them). Lack of exercise then causes muscle wastage and more discomfort.
Some groomers may tell you that walking on concrete will wear the nails down. This is a MYTH. Running your dog on concrete will have a bigger impact on wearing the nail down but not entirely.
The best way to maintain the nail, regular nail trimming (even if it’s just trimming the tips off).
Keeping the paw pads clear of hair will also make walking more comfortable. It reduces matting, prevents foreign bodies becoming trapped in the hair and it also improves balance/grip.
Nail trimming starts from £10.

A healthy dog is a happy dog
A healthy dog is a happy dog.
A healthy dog isn’t just the result of a good diet and regular exercise. This extends to the exterior appearance too!!!
A clean, well-maintained coat keeps the skin healthy & protected. Trimmed nails and clear paw pads keep the dog in prime condition for walking and clean ears are usually free from infection.
A coat that is trimmed regular, or de-shed for double coated breeds, is less likely to become matted or compacted.
An unkempt coat creates an ideal environment for bacteria and fleas and if not dried correctly, can store excess moisture so your dog struggles to warm itself up.
At Tyler’s Dog Company the products we use are natural meaning they are free from, amongst other things, chemicals, sulphates and parabens. Ideal for sensitive skin.
We also use a series of specifically designed slicker brushes and combs for brushing the coats, spraying each dog with a banish detangling spray to help condition the coat. This makes eliminating knots easier but this does not extend to badly matted coats.
Luckily, our clients are all on regular schedules so they are very unlikely to go beyond the basic knot:
Mr Wilfred (Cockapoo)
Miss Poppy (Cavachon)
Miss Bailey (Border Collie)
Mr Arlo (Cockapoo)
Mr Bob (Italian Spinone)
Miss Bentley (Frenchie)

A general day at Tyler’s Dog Grooming Studio …
It’s all squeaky balls and gravy bones until someone doesn’t want their nails trimmed …
Whether they’ve been coming from a puppy or since we started 3 years ago, all of our clients are regular and visit on a schedule of 6 or 8 weeks.
A good mix of breeds, fur type and ages keeps the day interesting:
Miss Bonnie (Cocker Spaniel)
Miss Millie (Poochon)
Mr Max (Border Collie)
Miss Luna (Cocker Spaniel)
Miss Lola (Cockapoo)
Mr Bailey (Cockapoo)
Miss Daisy (Westie)
Bonnie takes photo time super seriously.
Millie decided she’d be on her best behaviour today (showing the other dogs how it’s done).
Max is still getting to ropes with grooming etiquette but he’s doing incredibly well and gets a 10 for effort.
Luna is always on a mission, she finds the fun in literally anything & everything. We’re living for it.
Lola is a gentle soul and likes to sit and relax through her haircuts.
Bailey love love loves attention and the odd treat or 5.
Daisy, just like any Westie, is in a world of her own … at 14 years old she still had the energy of a puppy.

The puppy experience 🐾
For many types of dog, grooming is a fundamental part of life and early introduction to the process is crucial to your young dog’s development.
De-sensitising your puppy to grooming early (usually from 12 weeks of age) means your dog will develop important socialisation skills, adjust to being handled and become at ease having his or her hair done, which for many is way out of their comfort zone.
One of newest clients, Toby the Cockapoo visited today with his big brother Ozzy who is no stranger to the grooming table.
We started with a run around the studio, getting used to the sights, sounds & smells before a warm bath. To ease Toby in we used a marshmallow facial … he found it rather tastey (luckily all our products are plant based and chemical free so a cheeky taste doesn’t hurt).
After a cool blow dry we trimmed his nails, clipped out his paw pads and trimmed around his face.
For his first time Toby did super well. He is a bit spicy so it’ll probably take a few grooms before he’s 100% comfortable with it all but he gets a 10 from us today.
