LipiData's Lipizzaner of the Month - 300 Incitato IX-10
One of the first mares to be imported to Australia, "Lippi" was bred at Szilvásvárad and is responsible for the interesting story of the 4sz Mezöhegyesi mare family in Australia, as well as being the only coloured horse to be imported into the country.
The 4sz Mezöhegyesi mare line, for many years, was thought to be lost. During clarification of "Lippi"'s pedigree, stemming from LIF meetings in the 1990s, it was during the early-mid 2000s when it was discovered 4sz Mezöhegyesi was not only present in Australia, but flourishing, with it being the most prevelant mare family in the country; and it was "Lippi" perpetuating the line.
It was the work of Atjan Hop that eventually identified 4sz Mezöhegyesi as being a part of the 519 Original Hungarin mare family, dating back to Mezöhegyesi in 1787, a branch which had died out in Hungary but still existed in Romania, and (now!) Australia.
Although born in Hungary, "Lippi" was imported to Australia via Denmark in the mid-1970s by Bent and Marianne Christensen to their Bibaringa stud, located in Canberra. The imported Piber stallion 303 Pluto Plutona-14, last month's spotlight, also stood at Bibaringa around this this time. Upon the disbandenment of Bibaringa, "Lippi" was sold to Hungarian-born Karoly Keves.
"Lippi"'s grandson, the deceased stallion 270 Siglavy Lili, is the culmination of our recently spotlighted horses - the Piber stallions 298 Siglavy Flora 1-75 and 303 Pluto Plutona-14, and the Hungarian mare 300 Incitato IX-10.
270 Siglavy Lili's paternal grandsire is 298 Siglavy Flora 1-75, maternal granddam is 300 Incitato IX-10, and maternal great-grandsire is 303 Pluto Plutona-14. Not only is 270 Siglavy Lili responsible for perpetuating the Siglavy name in Australia, he is also responsible for passing down the breeding traditions started by Australia's two foundation breeders - Geoff Adcock, and Bent and Marianne Christensen. A pedigree full of history and stories.
