I sedated a lion to assist another facility. Big Cat Rescue was rescuing smaller cats, and we helped move the lion into a transport cage for the rescue team.

I've been considering sharing some of the thousands of old photos I have that I never posted... Reminiscing about the good and bad times this was over a decade ago and proud of what has been achieved since then. Sometimes it may be difficult for me to identify the exact cat, but I believe this was Nirvana the Ocelot.

The end of an era is always the start of something new ❤️. I have been at Big Cat Rescue for almost 20 years and have worked with amazing interns, staff, and volunteers. I have been a cage builder, landscaper, keeper, and veterinarian (and so many more jobs—it’s kind of insane).

Recently, I have seen some posts about the transition of the nonprofit that have made me sad… Maybe because I have always looked at it differently from the start. Nonprofits have a mission statement; this is exactly what the nonprofit aims to accomplish. Unfortunately, I’m not sure I know many nonprofits that actually achieve their goals, since that would lead to the nonprofit being put out of business. I have heard for almost two decades that we are trying to put ourselves out of business. This is the mission statement:

‘Our Mission is to provide the best home we can for the cats in our care, end abuse of big cats in captivity, and prevent extinction of big cats in the wild.’

I have always been very close to Jamie Veronica, Carole Baskin, and Howard Baskin. From the beginning, this was the mission:

1. Big Cat Rescue has always taken the best care of the cats and has never given me a limit to my care, financial or workload (Veterinary care has always been exactly what I have recommended, and I’m not sure I will ever get to practice medicine like this ever again ❤️❤️). Now they have gone to an amazing facility, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, where big cats will continue that mission.

2. End the abuse in captivity - The passing of the H.R.263 - Big Cat Public Safety Act was a huge step that took an insane amount of hard work from Carole and Howard and many more for over a decade.

3. Now Big Cat Rescue will transition to saving wild cats. I know Jamie, Carole, and Howard and how hard they have worked. I have no doubt we will see them work as hard as they can at saving species of cats around the world. This impact will be far greater and longer-lasting than any work with captive wildlife.

I personally think every volunteer, intern, supporter, and staff member should be proud to have been part of actually making a change and doing what the nonprofit said it would do. All our hard work provided an amazing home for the animals, helped fund passing the Big Cat Public Safety Act, and will help fund saving big cat species in the wild for decades to come. Without all of us, this would not have been possible. I’m glad to be a part of something much bigger than myself.”( Wanted to tag everyone but I did not want to miss people so... Hope to hear from you in the comments ).

I Will Miss the Cats...

I Will Miss the People...

I Will Miss the Property...

I will always have the memories❤️❤️❤️
