If anyone is looking to adopt a healthy, sterilised, beautiful mature cat (or two) please take a look at this post from Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge. 💕🐾

💔💔We are sorry… so sorry that at the moment we are struggling to help people who are trying to surrender their cats💔💔

So many adults cats waiting at SCARS for their forever homes. Unless we can get some serious numbers of cat adoptions, we just can’t take any more in at the moment..

We are working with the local pound to keep saving any cats🤞🤞

Please help us find homes for our adult cats so we can keep saving others! Pop to our website to see who is available - www.sippycreek.com.au

or pop out to meet them

We are open 10-5p Tuesday- Sunday!

If you can’t adopt please share our CAT-pacity campaign🙏🤞

CATS vs DOGS BELLY RUB
Do you have a cat that just doesn't like their belly rubbed? Or they love it for about 3 seconds?! Well according to scientific research some cats have hyper sensitive hair follicles on their belly which if stroked the wrong way is ultra annoying! Dogs on the other hand love their belly stroked - it's a comfort action to them as it sends happy hormones to their brain. 🐾

WHAT IS TAURINE?
It's important to understand that cats don't naturally synthesis Taurine - an essential amino-acid. Taurine is often added into cat food because most canned or manufactured pet food includes a high heat cooking process which destroys Taurine (that is why cat food adds Taurine and dog food doesn't as dogs make their own Taurine!). Taurine is found in all meat, dark poultry meat is best e.g. Turkey or in Shellfish, Oily fish e.g. salmon or sardines or in Eggs. You can also buy Natural Taurine Supplements such as seaweed or krill from most good quality pet shops. Of course only feed good quality meat/fish, I buy human quality only organic/free range/grass fed meat or ocean caught fish - non-farmed is the best and Australian is better (some fish caught from other oceans around the world have high levels of mercury and other nasties so be careful about what you and your pet eats!). The minimum amount is about 56mg/day and don't worry about over feeding Taurine excess is expelled from the body - it is the LACK of Taurine that causes very serious health issues for cats. So keep loving your cat and have a great day 🐾💕

BEWARE
A chemical, Titanium Dioxide or "171", commonly found in thousands of supermarket products is also being used in top-selling dog and cat foods, treats, and supplements.
This additive is no longer considered safe for human or animal consumption due to long-term health concerns according to new human and animal-model studies.
Titanium Dioxide "171" contains nano-particles- also found in car paint - which can accumulate in the body over time and can cause bowel and auto-immune disease, allergies, asthma and reproductive/DNA issues.
NOTE: As a furkid lover always read ingredient labels carefully and remember anything with a 'number' next to it is probably not natural but a man-made chemical ingredient.

Is your dog or cat getting hyperactive or seem increasingly stressed?
Read this peer reviewed research paper on flea/tick chemicals.
Speak to your vet for alternatives if you are concerned.

Recent Study highlights that one of the most popular Flea & Tick treatments💦 in the world may negatively affect your pet’s behaviour.😾

Fipronil is an insecticide⚠️ and one of the most popular veterinary drugs used to control fleas and ticks🦟 and is available worldwide. Recently, researchers wanted to know why dogs & cats appeared to be restless and excited following fipronil administration, so they conducted a study which was published by Science Direct. The results are pretty alarming.

According to the scientists:

“The behavioral activation observed in the present study may be due to an increase in dopamine levels in the striatum. Therefore, we theorize that fipronil also affects emotional and cognitive behaviors in dogs and cats, particularly as many appear to be restless and excited following fipronil administration.

However, the pharmacodynamics and neurotox- icity from the usage of fipronil as a veterinary drug has not been greatly explored. Neurotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, and disruption of endocrine function have been reported in mice and rats after oral administration of fipronil. Additionally, fipronil is reported to affect their emotional and cognitive behaviors (Godinho et al., 2016; Terçariol and Godinho, 2011). In the above mentioned toxicity tests, the effects of fipronil on the nervous, circulatory, blood, and endocrine systems were verified. However, sufficient toxicity studies have not been conducted on the effects of fipronil on the emotional and cognitive behaviors of mammals.

The present study is a new approach to toxicity testing. Moreover, based on the results of our study, extrapolation to dogs and cats and further verification are necessary, particularly in understanding the ef-fects triggered via fipronil treatment on emotional and cognitive behaviors.”

This is an American site, however, many ingredients and products are found in Australia. Not only pets but babies and adults can be affected by these chemicals.

WHAT YOU USE TO CLEAN🧽🪣 YOUR HOME ULTIMATELY ENDS UP INSIDE YOUR PET. CHOOSE WISELY.

Study after study shows that indoor and outdoor home chemicals such as cleaning products🧼, air fresheners🕯, fire retardants📛 treated lumber decks🪵, stain-proofing chemicals🖌, chemicals from cooking fumes🔥, and lawn pesticides 💦are contaminating our pets' bodies.

Science has noted that most of these chemicals are considered potentially mutagenic carcinogens.

Don’t panic though; this post is meant to empower you to make changes that will go a long way to protect you and your pet. The goal is to prevent these exposures from disrupting the essential functioning of the body, impacting DNA🧬, cellular membranes, and protein.

In the most famous study to date by the Environmental Working Group : "Dogs and cats were found to be contaminated with 48 of 70 industrial chemicals tested, including 43 chemicals at levels higher than those typically found in people, according to our study of plastics and food packaging chemicals, heavy metals, fire retardants, and stain-proofing chemicals in pooled samples of blood🩸 and urine from 20 dogs and 37 cats collected at a Virginia veterinary clinic.

Major gaps in our system of public health protections allow most industrial chemicals on the market with no mandatory safety testing. Chemical companies do not have to prove products are safe before they are sold, or understand how much of their chemicals end up in people, let alone pets. There are few standards that limit chemical contamination in pet food, pet toys, and other products for our companion animals. For pets as for people, the result is a body burden of complex mixtures of industrial chemicals never tested for safety. Health problems in pets span high rates of cancer in dogs and skyrocketing incidence of hyperthyroidism in cats. Genetic changes can't explain the increases in certain health problems among pets. Scientists believe that chemical exposures play a role."

In our new book, set for release in just a few weeks, The Forever Dog – “Surprising New Science to Help Your Canine Companion Live Younger, Healthier & Longer” we give you our thirteen-point checklist to follow for cleaning up your dog’s environment, as well as a ton of other strategies to help you raise the happiest, healthiest, long-lived dog possible!

The Forever Dog book is now available for Pre-order, make sure to reserve your copy! foreverdog.com/book/
