I hope to do so!

2019 was a good year for adoptions. 66 of my dogs got adopted! I want to thank everybody who adopted from me and I hope this year we will pass 100 adoptions! The most important thing for me this year is to focus on adoptions because more and more dogs keep coming and I want to save them but I can't now because the shelter is full....

The Bedlington Terrier Rescue Foundation's new Foster Carer Scheme is now open. Being a Foster Carer is truly rewarding experience, helping provide a stable environment for rescued dogs and making it easier for them to be rehomed. For some, this may be the only "normal" home environment they get (they may be in their twilight years, or need long term support making it less likely for them to be rehomed).

Full training, full support is offered to Carers from this fantastic forward thinking organisation. Please check out the link for more details on how you could help a "Beddie in Need"

So nice to start the year with lovely Jackson and a 10 mile walk in London. Jackson is a handsome lurcher that was rescued when he was found on the streets of Ireland. He now lives with Meg and Daz in Hackney and lives a fine life. He regularly joins me and friends for a hike and fine company he is.

To people that worry about rescues, people always comment how brilliant Jackson’s behaviour is on hikes. I wouldn’t hesitate to adopt. Megan Daz

Learning the signs of increasing fear or frustration in dogs is such an essential base for dog owners and those who work with dogs.

Dogs just really like manners!

An explanation is provided as to why some dogs struggle with direct head on fast approaches, skateboards, bikes and joggers.

"Pavements may be straight, and our human perspective is to follow straight paths, but it is worth curving (even if it is very subtle) and going off the path occasionally, especially if you see a dog ahead. For dog guardians, observing the body language of the dog and providing support where needed may mean avoiding a particular environment or situation in some instances. Consider, too, how much pressure is placed on the dog to conform to human expectations. There are some great dogs that seem to tolerate these demands, but even with great dogs, it would be a friendly gesture to curve off the path. In the case of dogs that struggle to cope, I hope this provides some understanding on seeing matters from their perspective. For these dogs, streets can be a difficult environment to navigate. Your dog is not misbehaving; he is just being a dog and may need more support to cope with a human world and human perspective. Perhaps a quieter environment may be more appropriate. If you see a dog reacting, barking or lunging, please give him lots of space; do not continue to approach: cross the road, and curve away – a friendly gesture that will be appreciated by the dog and guardian."

Dog by Francis Bacon (1952). Deliberately smeared to show the movement, this image of the dog is derived from Eadward Muybridge's time-lapse photographs of animals in motion from the 1880s.

Between 1983 and 1992 David Lynch produced a comic strip called ‘The Angriest Dog in the World’.

Each strip was introduced with a small caption:

‘The dog who is so angry he cannot move. He cannot eat. He cannot sleep. He can just barely growl. Bound so tightly with tension and anger, he approaches the state of rigor mortis.’

Goya’s Dog, painted by Goya directly onto the wall of his house in Madrid, and not intended for public view. Painted sometime between 1819 and 1823 when he was in his 70s and quite ill. I love it.

Makeshift den set up for Busby to hide from fireworks. His favourite music is playing too. Tried him with Philip Glass but he prefers terrible YouTube spa music. Note his head on the pillow next to the speaker.
