Meet Colette: a Shy Beauty Ready to Blossom ~
Colette is a young and incredibly shy little lady with a very gentle soul. Though she has playmates, it takes her some time to warm up to humans. Her timid nature makes her a bit reserved at first, but with patience and love, Colette gradually reveals her sweet and playful side. Once she gets to know you, she is very loving and affectionate.

Colette is possibly a whippet mix, and is a petite girl weighing only around 30 lbs. Her long little legs and graceful little leaps will put you in mind of a young fawn.
Colette previously lived in a foster home where she truly came out of her shell. The nurturing environment allowed her to grow more confident and comfortable, showcasing her true and warm personality. With the right home, Colette can once again flourish and become the loving, playful dog she is meant to be.
Colette is now looking for a forever home where she can feel safe and loved. A patient and kind family will help her continue her journey of confidence and joy. If you’re looking for a gentle and loving companion who just needs a little time to open up, Colette is the perfect match.

For more information about Colette, please email FAUNA (Friends All United for Natchitoches Animals) at [email protected]. or check out our website www.npfauna.org

***UPDATE***
FOSTER FOUND!

Meet Jenna: A Sweet Soul in Need of a Peaceful Home~

Jenna is a gentle 5 year old dog who, despite her age, has the body of a senior dog due to years of neglect. Recently surrendered by her previous owners, Jenna is now facing heart failure and needs a special place to rest and live out her remaining days in comfort.

As a hospice dog, Jenna requires medication three times a day and must stay cool in an air conditioned environment. FAUNA will supply everything she needs, kennel, food, and medication. You supply love and care. She deserves to spend her final days in a loving home where she can experience the warmth and care she has missed out on.

We are seeking a compassionate foster or adopter who can provide Jenna with a peaceful, indoor space to relax and enjoy the simple comforts of life. While her time may be short, your love can make all the difference in Jenna’s world.

If you can offer Jenna the serene, loving home she needs, please comment here or email [email protected]. Let’s make her final days filled with the kindness, care, and comfort she truly deserves.

Meet Sadie: The Serene and Sun-Loving Soul
“Sweet Sadie,” as she is affectionately called by her caregivers, is an old soul with a gentle demeanor and a love for the simple pleasures in life. She walks beautifully on a leash, making her the easiest girl in the world to take on strolls. Though Sadie enjoys a bit of playtime, she is happiest when she can relax in the sun or lounge in her swimming pool.

Sadie is believed to be a lab-mix and possess all of the endearing and intelegent qualities of the breed. She takes instruction very well and gets along great with other dogs. She has a special fondness for children, making her a wonderful fit for families who are looking for a calm and loving companion.

Sadie was fostered for a few days during the freezing weather this past winter and her foster Mom had wonderful things to say about her:

“Sadie was a perfect houseguest, she had great manners and was very calm and comfortable in a home environment. She seemed to be house-trained and learned to use a doggie door very quickly.” Sadie’s foster family would also like to help her find a home by sponsoring her adoption fee in full.

If you would like more information about Sweet Sadie, please email FAUNA (Friends All United for Natchitoches Animals) at [email protected] or visit our website www.npfauna.org

It’s never too late to have your pet chipped, and if they already are, make sure it is registered and your information is up to date!

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/MeY25MKeGiGd3p1k/?mibextid=CTbP7E

On , we're sharing a few important reminders on the importance of microchips - such as:

➡ 1 in 3 family pets will get lost
➡ Microchipped dogs are more than twice as likely to be returned to their owners and microchipped cats are more than 20 times as likely to be returned to their owners

And remember - while microchips greatly increase the chances that pets will be reunited with their families if they are lost or stolen…a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate.

FAUNA's August Bath Day was a huge success raising $1,716.00 plus a first time $200.00 sponsorship from John Torrent-State Farm Insurance Agent to help with the cost of shampoo and paying the Veterinary Technicians that clipped nails.
The money raised is much needed to pay part of our veterinary bills for the 100+ animals we care for.
No matter how big, we enjoyed bathing everyone's dogs and especially loved the enthusiasm from the volunteers that came out to help. St .Mary's School students, Jillian Coleman (cheer), Summer Rushing (cheer), Lainey Bennett (cheer), Emily Amberg (cheer), Adele Williams (danceline), Avery Katherine and Gannon Sheffield; Tano Eleyae from NSU Middle Lab; Madison Simms, NSU Lady of the Bracelet; Luci Carr and Caitlin Leroux, NSU Pom Line; NSU Soccer Team, Bruce Dyjack, Greg St. Andre, Lisa Long and many more FAUNA die-hards.
A huge thank you to our hard working bath day organizer, Michelle Demattie. It is organized better than it has been in years. Thankyou Mary Williams for taking home ALL the dirty towels and washing them for our September 14th microchipping and bath event. Thank you ALWAYS to Tractor Supply Co. and Raising Cane's #057 for the ICE Tea. Many of us would not have made it through the day without the ice tea!!!! No kidding.
OHHH and John Torrent's State Farm tent was a life saver. John, can we use it again (pretty please)
SEE YA"LL SEPTEMBER 14TH We will be ready and as hot as it has been we are certain your dogs will be ready for an Oatmeal/ Aloe bath, Nail clipping and maybe a MICROCHIP.

Donations are needed for Millie’s surgery. She’s a young kitten with an injured front leg and paw. After X-rays were taken, the vet decided that amputation was best for Milli. She can live many years and enjoy life with just three paws, but we must get donations to help make that happen.
If you would like to donate for Milli’s surgery, you may donate through Venmo , PayPal , via our website www.npfauna.org or you can mail your donation to: FAUNA- P. O. Box 2552 – Natchitoches, La. 71457.

Meet Squeaky and Mabel!

Squeaky (left) and Mabel (right) are the sweetest gray tabby cat sisters!

These adorable 2 year old kitties were found in a barn without a mother cat in sight. Their amazing foster Mom bottle fed them around the clock and helped them to not only grow but thrive. Their personalities are friendly, loving, and affectionate and they purr with delight each time they’re petted. Squeaky’s meow is very cute and sounds more like a squeaky toy than a cat. Mabel is a professional power napper and loves to take long afternoon naps in a soft bed. Both have been only inside cats and are well socialized and litter box trained.

Squeaky and Mabel would love to find a home of their own soon, whether together or separate.

To find out more about these wonderful cats or any of our other sweet rescues at FAUNA (Friends All United for Natchitoches Animals), please send us an email at [email protected] or visit our website www.npfauna.org

***COLLARS***TAGS***MICROCHIPS***

Allowing your pet to run loose, and without a collar with updated tags, puts them in danger of never being reunited with your family. It causes stress to kindhearted people that try to help your pet but have no place to keep them safe. Be a responsible pet owner and good citizen.

CITY TAGS for your pet are available from any of the veterinarian clinics in the City of Natchitoches; Cane River Vet, Good Hope Veterinary, and Natchitoches Animal Hospital. They cost two dollars ($2.00) and are color specific for each year. Purchasing one puts your pet into the registry at the Natchitoches Animal Control Shelter. If your pet escapes and ends up at the shelter, they will know whom to contact.

MICROCHIPS work the same way, as the shelter and most vet offices can scan for one. The cost of Microchips varies from clinic to clinic. The pet owner must register them & keep their contact information updated.

LAW requires Rabies tags and City tags for you dog if you live within the city limits. Even living outside the city limits, you may want to purchase a City tag. If your pet gets loose, it could still end up at the City Shelter. It is worth $2.00 to have your pet registered. Cats are not required to have a City tag, but it is highly recommended.

COLLARS and IDENTIFICATION TAGS are equally important. Make sure your pet has a collar with a tag with your UPDATED contact information. Tags are available locally at Valley Farmers Co-Op on Rapides Drive. This will help get your pet returned to you sooner if lost. It is YOUR responsibility as their owner to keep them safe. They depend on YOU!

Hi, I’m Panda! I’m a handsome one year old Catahoula Leopard dog/mix. I am a sweet boy who’s bursting with fun and a whole lot of love! I’m the kind of pup who gets along with everyone I meet. Whether it’s humans, other dogs, or even those mysterious feline creatures, I’m always ready to make new friends and spread the joy.

When it comes to playtime, I’m the ultimate enthusiast. Give me a ball, a squeaky toy, or even just an open space, and I’ll keep going for hours! I never seem to run out of energy, and it’s always a blast to engage in games and activities that keep me on my paws.

But let me tell you a little secret-when it’s finally time to recharge, I’m out like a light! It’s not unusual to find me snoozing in the oddest places and in the strangest positions. I have a knack for turning any spot into a cozy nap zone. I keep my caregivers laughing everyday.

So, if you’re looking for a companion who can keep up with your active lifestyle and still provide endless entertainment, look no further. I, Panda, am here to fill your life with laughter, playfulness, and unforgettable moments. Let’s embark on a journey of endless fun and adorable snoozing adventures together!

The loss of a pet is so overwhelming. One can never be replaced with another. Each one has certain characteristics that make you fall in love with them. After the recent loss of her dog Glaukos, T Davina McClain knew she wanted to adopt a companion for her dog, Sumi, and herself. Honey caught Davina’s eye and after fostering her for a short while, it was evident Honey was “home”. We are grateful to Sumi for allowing Honey to be a part of her family, and of course we are very grateful to Davina for yet again, adopting a Rescue!

FAUNA’s 9th Magnolia Spay & Neuter Clinic made a lot of caring families happy. They were so pleased to pick up their newly fixed pets and even their feral friends.
We want to thank these families for being part of the ONLY solution there is for the overpopulation animal crisis in our Parish: SPAY AND NEUTER!!!!
FAUNA wants to thank the Natchitoches Parish Council, City of Natchitoches City Hall for contributing to the cost to spay and neuter the animals of citizens in our parish. We are also very fortunate to hold these clinics at the John Below Community Center. Dr Carey from Magnolia Spay Neuter and her staff tell us that this is the best facility they service!
They love coming to Natchitoches and will come here four times a year but that is sadly not often enough. Do not wait to get your pet spayed or neutered. We have three veterinarians in our city. They all honor the FAUNA vouchers. Appointments with our local veterinarians and Magnolia are often hard to get so make the appointment as soon as you can!
Good Hope Veterinary Hospital (318) 238-3000
Cane River Veterinary Clinic (318) 352-6678
Natchitoches Animal Hospital (318) 352-2103
Red River Veterinary Clinic (318) 932-1000

Robinsons Rescue (Shreveport) (318) 221-0017 https://robinsonsrescue.org/

If you are a resident of Natchitoches Parish or Red River Parish, you can apply for a voucher to help defer the cost. https://www.shelterluv.com/form/community/FAUN/2139-spay-natchitoches

If you are reading this post, we are probably preaching to the choir BUT you can be part of the solution by telling people you know that they can get help to fix their pets and prevent unwanted litters from being born. So many people in our community love their pets but can not afford vet cost. Please join FAUNA in our mission to educate people and get this important procedure done.
THANK YOU TEAM!

From nearly dead to completely loved over the span of two years
Nina was abandoned to starve and die by her cruel owner, picked up by Natchitoches Animal Control Shelter, taken in by NSU Veterinary Technology Program, transferred to FAUNA and brought back to life by volunteers.
That was her beginning but now, it is so different. And you are thinking, who could do such a thing?!?
The person who left Nina to die with her two siblings was charged with a felony but left the state. If she ever commits a crime, this will be on her record.
Sadly, one of Nina’s siblings did starve to death. Nina was very close to dying and the 3rd sibling, Nino, was also in very bad shape. The NSU Veterinary Techs took them in and got them over the hump!
The city shelter offered them to FAUNA and we took them. How could we not?!?
They were able to settle in at FAUNA’s site 1 (aka Happy TAILS) and began a long recovery. They were both successfully treated for heartworms and Nino got the opportunity to go to Minnesota and was adopted. Nina never got looked at but we just kept putting her out there. We loved her, nurtured her and never forgot what almost happened to her. She had a sweet but sometimes lonely life at site 1.
The miracle that got Nina her forever home was the weather. Yes, the cold front in January 2024 was so severe we asked for volunteer fosters to take our dogs in for a few days until the temperature got above freezing. Lucky for this girl, her new family didn’t want to let her go. They wanted to foster her a little longer. Haha longer as in forever. We love foster failures!
Nina is with Kailyn, Seth and her canine sister, Nala, and thriving. She is also a comedian, wears bunny costumes and was once found sleeping on the kitchen table!
Her transition has been nothing short of a miracle and she is now having fun and being loved.
Thank you, Kailyn, Seth and Nala, for letting Nina into your hearts. We must always remember that she went through horrific things and WE CAN NOT ALLOW HER TO EVER SUFFER AGAIN. She will be in your care FUREVER.

Why is Thursday July 25th so important?
Tomorrow is FAUNA's 9th spay neuter clinic with Magnolia Spay Neuter. Animals will be spayed and neutered and unwanted animals will not be born to suffer and die.
Thanks to the grants from Natchitoches Parish Council
and City of Natchitoches .
FAUNA does all the leg work to organize these highly successful spay neuter clinics that are held at the John Below Community Center.
Thank your district parish councilmen, the Mayor and city council members when you see them!

Meet Ralphi, an adorable mini Plott-Hound mix with the most beautiful brindle “tiger-striped” coat.

Ralphi “The Tiger” is only about 9 months old, weighs around 25 lbs, and stands below knee height of an adult. He’s neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and ready for adoption. Little Ralphi has the cutest and sweetest personality, and usually smiles shyly when he meets people for the first time. He loves playing with squeaky toys annd tennis balls and gets along wonderfully with other dogs.

Ralphi is currently in basic obedience training with dog trainer Isaac Wright at our FAUNA rescue.

Isaac said, “This is a SWEET boy! He’s a very gentle and young pup that thrives with physical affection and food rewards. He seems to be really well tempered and seems to play well with the other dogs. I’ve observed that’s where his confidence and play drive comes out! He’s such a lovely dog and I feel he could be an amazing addition to a family who is looking for a small and kind companion… And just look at that smile!”

Ralphi “The Tiger” is available for adoption and is eagerly awaiting his FURever home where he will be showered with lots of love, attention, and snuggles.

For more information about Ralphi please contact FAUNA at [email protected] or check out our website http://www.npfauna.org.
