Meet Cacao 2 yr old chug. Her real mother was run over yesterday and her human mother is moving so she lost everything she has ever known in a day. She will be spayed, have her shots, microchipped etc. Monday PLEASE PLEASE read her bio (will show by morning)before applying. Too many people apply then change their minds when they ask their husband or ??? So if you need permission please ask before applying.

Any Updates on brother Paul?
For the longest time I felt bad because I split the brothers up, I am happy to hear that Peter got adopted. Paul is very loved, we changed his name to Apaulo shortly after. He’s been on lots of car rides, gets to sleep under the covers every night, and has two best friends. When we take him to the dog sitters it’s sweet because he likes to make friends with the disabled dogs.
One of the 4 mange pups----Bentley is happy and healthy and still very much a water dog, and bed hog. He is still just as sweet and loving as they day he picked us.
Bailey came to us in pretty bad shape after the owner died.... I just wanted to give you an update on Bailey the Doberman! We adopted her in December 2022, and we have to say, we got the very best dog there is. She is just the sweetest dog that ever existed, and she was just meant to come in to our lives. She absolutely LOVES cats, and she found an outdoor cat of my dad's once she settled in here and made us adopt him. His name is Max, and they make the cutest couple. They sleep together all day and night, and they are never far apart. She loves grooming Max, and once in a while he will return the favor and groom her a little (although he is much more of a taker than a giver). She loves all of our cats, and she just has the best personality. She loves going on walks, and she sleeps with us every night. Last year in May she had sudden acute pain, and we took her to the emergency vet in Shawnee, and she had a mass in her spleen, so they removed her spleen, and she has been good since then. We know she is getting older still, and they said that removing her spleen should buy her a good year, and we are past that year with good health still, so every day is a gift for her. We are just so grateful you let us adopt her, and she is just the best! She weighs 80 pounds now, so she filled out quite well after we got her. I will send pictures from my phone as I'm the slowest typist on my phone, and so I wanted to use the computer to email this.

she is a lap dog. She loves laps! We finally got a new couch since she wants to sit as close to us as possible and the old couches had individual seats with storage between. She likes the new couch so much more. And she HATES snow. Snow is evil. She would rather hold her p*e for a month than go in the snow, so in one photo she has on her snow boots. The pink coat is her new coat from this winter. She doesn't really like the cold at all, so she loves all her coats!

This is Caroline. She moved overseas with all her animals.
She never wrote on Facebook, "I'm giving up my cats and dogs because I'm moving," or I'm having a baby, or I've had the animal a year, two years, or more, and now I suddenly don't have time for it or can't afford to feed it.
So, when you get an animal, remember that it’s a fragile creature, part of the family, and must follow you everywhere you go, otherwise don’t get one!!

Georgia is settling in and glad I required her to have a buddy, puppies "need" to play with other dogs. So many people missed out on a great dog but it usually works out as it should. She went to a previous adopter who stays in touch with me.
Georgia has her lifelong companion. We ❤️previous adopters .

The first pup is Bandit: He is believed to be abandoned after a resident left town. He is approximately 10 weeks old. He is fully of energy loves the game of chase, tug of war and squeaky toys. He plays well with other dogs he has not been introduced to cats. Set to be Euthanized on June 14
Second pup is Gizmo: She is also believed to be abandoned. She is also approximately 10 weeks old. She came in with Bandit and loves to play but is more interested in exploring and discovering new things. Set to be euthanized of June 14
Three is Rue: she came in as a stray, she is very scared in the shelter setting and we have not been able to view any of her personality as she stays curled up hidden in the corner. She appears to be 2-3 yrs old not spayed. Can be euthanized anytime between June 6-17
Number 4 is Roy: Roy is approximately 12 weeks old he is super sweet gentle and sensitive. He is not much into playing with toys, he is more into cuddles and being loved on. Set to be euthanized June 17.
Every day I am asked where to get animals fixed, hope posting these is helping.

Simple Analogy—Why we can’t saved them all…
Every time rescue is asked to take an owner surrender- we have to somehow make room on our little raft for that dog.
When an owner says stuff like “I don’t have time to give them the best life” or “I have to move” or “they have too much anxiety” it really falls flat because that means if we bring them on the raft, another dog out there in the freezing water gets to die.
Every day rescue adjudicate life and death by gate keeping who can get on the boat.
Rescues and shelters are the tiny Rescue Boats.
The Ship is our community at large.
The iceberg is comprised of puppy mills, careless owners, backyard breeders, and those who won’t spay/neuter.

Desi came in here as an out of control puppy, she got little to no attention and all she knew how to do was jump up on you to get your attention. I don’t think she knew she had 4 feet. I do not do jumping up and my dogs get no treats no pets unless they sit. 2 days working with her and here we are I don’t even have to tell her anymore. She will get better and hold her sit longer with time as she learns she has a butt and learns to control her enthusiasm. Good little dog. Oksaveadog.org for info application
