September is National Service Dog Month. I want to celebrate this dog who saves my life almost daily. Having Emma with really does make it so I can live a safe and independent life. Remember that service dogs are task trained to mitigate a disability.

Here in the United States April is Child Abuse prevention month. I am a survivor of abuse. I moved out of an abusive with what I could carry with what I carry in a trash bag at the age of 14 to escape abuse.
The physical and emotional abuse I left behind did leave with PTSD that Emma does help me navigate everyday.
I didn’t have the typical signs of abuse that most people look for in abused kids. I didn’t have bad grades and bad behavior. In fact I tried my best to make all As and behave the best outside of home because the abuse was worse if I didn’t. My abuser was over involved in my school and church environment instead of uninvolved.
This is why when my family separate and I started openly about there being abuse in the home no one believed me. It also took me years to open about the abuse because the first adult I told didn’t believe me and shut me down. So if kid tells you they are being harmed believe them even if they don’t meet the stereotype.
*Also please remember if you know more about my story please don’t put details in the comments. Don’t address my abuser by anymore than they/ them pronouns. Please do not name them. This is for both mine and their safety! *
*My DMs are always a safe space if you need to tell your story. And if I’m friends or following your abuser let me know. I’ll immediately fix that!*

Introducing Golden Mountain Valley “Emma” TKI VHMA VSWT
While Emma was out of work, we worked on her Virtual Scent Work Title during her extra enrichment time. The scent work kept her calm and mentally stimulated. We do scent games already as part of her training so this was a fun title to do.

I’ve received a lot of questions about why I spayed Emma instead of breeding her. I do own on a full registration, yes I have now learned is a sign of a byb.
Here is list of reasons I’m not breeding Emma:
1. I don’t want a breeding program.
2. I haven’t shown her to get the right titles to breed. We only title for fun.
3. She isn’t tested to CHIC standards. She’s only tested to be approved for mobility work. I.e. hips, elbows, etc.
4. She doesn’t meet breed standards with her tail set and I don’t like her front end to carry along in a line. I also wouldn’t want to breed her size into a line.
5. For labs, my interest is service work. Emma is too drivey to breed into a service work line.
So the best and most ethical choice in this situation is to spay her. Please remember everyone has their own reason for neutering or leaving their dog intact. And you can be a responsible intact dog owner!
