A man said: My wife was sleeping next to me. And suddenly I got a notification from facebook, some girl requested to add me. So I thought let me see who it is...

I accepted her friend request and I sent her a message asking: "WHO IS THIS?”
She replied : I AM SO AND SO, I HEARD YOU GOT MARRIED, BUT I STILL MISS YOU.

(It was a friend from the past. She was a beautiful girl.)

I closed the chat to make sure my wife was sleeping.

I looked at her, she was sleeping deeply after her exhausting day from working around the house.

As I stared at her, I started to think -
How does she feel so safe that she can sleep so comfortably in a completely new home.

She is far from home, where she use to spend 24 years surrounded by her family.

When she became angry or sad, her mother was there for her so she could cry on her lap. Her sister or brother cracked jokes and made her laugh. Her father would come home and bring her all the things she liked.

All these thoughts came to my mind, so I picked up the phone and pressed "BLOCK".

I turned to face her and slept next to her. Because I Am A Man. A Man Who Doesn’t Cheat On His Wife And Doesn’t Break Up A Family. ❤️

Our hearts feel sad. Our cheeks are damp with tears. As we bid farewell to our beloved friend (i.e. Ramaḍān), we reflect on the shortness of its visit. Is this a metaphor for life? Will it pass by like the blink of an eye?

Ibn Rajab (raḥimahullāh) reminds us, “O Servants of Allah! Ramaḍān is ending, and very little of it remains: whoever from you spent it well should finish it the same way; and whoever is falling behind should finish it in the best manner, for the reward of actions are determined by their ending.”

Let us not waste these last precious moments doing Eid preparations. Let us not become complacent about attending the tarāwīḥ prayers, just because the imām has finished the recitation (khatm) of the Qur’ān.

“What matters the most are excellent endings, not faulty beginnings.” – Ibn Taymiyyah (raḥimahullāh)

A common misunderstanding which deters people from practising Islam is the idea that Islamic teachings are difficult to practise. Alongside this, there are many opportunities a person comes across on a daily basis to amass reward for the Hereafter, but which one missed due to lack of knowledge.

As M***i Muhammad Taqi Usmani says, “Intention can transform soil into gold and gold into soil.”

Whichever act you carry out, do so with the correct intention, seeking the pleasure of Allah. A correct intention can transform an ordinary permissible action (e.g eating) into an act of worship. Our beloved Prophet ﷺ said, “Indeed you do not spend anything seeking the pleasure of Allah, except that you will be rewarded for it, including what you place in your wife’s mouth” (Bukhārī).

M***i Muhammad Taqi Usmani mentions in the introduction to his book, Easy Good Deeds:

"In this world, we do not realise the true importance of storing up good deeds, but when our eyes shall close in eternal sleep and when we shall be summoned before Allah to answer for whatever we did in this world, then we would know how important even the most ordinary good deed shall become. Good deeds are the currency of the Afterlife; gold and silver and worldly coins shall avail nought, the only question to be asked would be "How many good deed have you brought to be reckoned?" If then the pocket would be empty, one would rue and repent why the roster of deeds was not filled up with good acts. But then all repentance would be of no avail as the time for acts would be long past."

For the last several months, we have been seeing images and videos emerge from Gaza on a daily basis. We recently saw the devasting scenes that took place at the as-Shifa Hospital. We feel helpless, exhausted, and mentally drained. Remember the fact that Allah is The-Just (al-Adl), He will hold to task the wrongdoers, as he promises in the Qur’an. Also remember, the martyrs are already rejoicing in their bliss. What can we do? Continue to pray for your brothers and sisters, assist them how you can, and realise that the disbelieving oppressor will suffer eternal humiliation and damnation.

Imam Shafi’i said, “There is a verse in the Qur’an that every wrongdoer should be terrified of.”

He was asked, “Which verse is that?”

He replied: وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ نَسِيًّا

❝And your Lord never forgets❞ [19:64]

May Allah grant the martyrs highest of ranks in Jannah, and grant those who are suffering ‘afiyah and khayr. Amin Ya Rabb.

A man asked Abū Tamīmah, "How are you this morning?" He replied, "I’m between two favors and I do not know which of them is better: sins that Allah has concealed so that they cannot be used against me, or the love that He has placed in people’s hearts for me - beyond what my own deeds could ever entitle me to." [Ibn Abī al-Dunyā, Al-Shukr Lillāh]

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Everyone from my Ummah will be forgiven except those who openly expose [their sins].” [S‌ah‌i‌h‌ al-Bukha‌ri‌ 6069, S‌ah‌i‌h‌ Muslim 2990]

Ibn Ḥajar (may Allah have mercy on him) commented:

“Allah concealing [any sin] is a prerequisite for the believer concealing themselves. Thus, he who intends to disclose and expose a sin will incur the wrath of his Lord and, as such, Allah will not conceal him. However, he who intends to cover [his sin] due to shame and shyness from his Lord and other people, Allah will graciously conceal it for him.” [Fatḥ al-Bārī, 10/488]

We should think over how Kind and Generous Allah is to us, and how we use these very same blessings to disobey Him. We should think about how Allah al-Sittīr (The Concealer of sins) does not expose us despite the multitude of our sins. This should fill our hearts with a deep sense of shame and remorse.

The scholars have mentioned that a sincere tawbah can make a sin the means for a person to enter Paradise. A person may commit a sin, but subsequently makes tawbah. His tawbah is so sincere that he constantly thinks about the sin. This causes him to fear it, regret it, weep over it and feel ashamed in front of his Lord due to it. He stands before Allah, broken-hearted with his head lowered in humility. He constantly begs and cries to Him in duʿā, and he tries to atone for the sin by doing other good deeds — to the extent that Shayṭān says, “I wish I had not made him fall into that sin”. Thus, this one sin becomes the cause for him entering Paradise.

Don’t let the race horse be more clever than you! 🐎

Ibn al-Jawzi رحمه الله said:

❝When the race horse knows that it is nearing the end of the track it exerts all of its effort to win the race.

Do not allow the race horse to be more clever than you.

For verily, deeds are judged by their conclusions. So if you didn't do well with welcoming Ramadan then perhaps you will do better bidding it farewell. ❞

Hasan al-Basri رحمه الله said:

'Shaytan was delighted when he saw Adam (peace be upon him) fall. What he didn't realise was that when a diver goes into the ocean, he collects pearls at the bottom, and he rises back up again.

Adam (peace be upon him) was better after his repentance even though he had to come down to this earth.

His rank with Allah was higher after his repentance than when he was in Paradise.' (Ibn al-Qayyim)

After sincere repentance, our hearts are polished, our sins are turned into good deeds and we move even closer to Allah.

This Ramaḍān, start your journey to Allah with sincere repentance (tawbah), and revel in the joy of reuniting with your Creator after having been away.

This Ramaḍān, feel the joy of hunger when fasting, and give up your desires (which you love) for your Beloved, who you love much more.

Soothe your heart by conversing and crying to your Lord in the stillness of the night, alone. Make the Qur’ān your best friend, and find immense peace in its recitation as, “There is nothing sweeter to the lover than the words of his beloved, for it is the joy of their hearts and their utmost desire” – Ibn Rajab (raḥimahullāh).

This Ramaḍān, serve your family, neighbours and the creation of Allah selflessly and happily. Overcome your ego and emulate the sublime character of Allah’s beloved, Muḥammad ﷺ. Feel greater joy in giving charity and helping others than the recipients of the charity themselves.

One meaning of the word 'Qadr' is 'greatness, honour or dignity'. The night of Qadr has been given this name because it is a night of greatness, honour, majesty and dignity.

Abū Bakr Warrāq رحمه الله has stated that this night is so called because a person becomes a man of honour and dignity on account of repentance, seeking pardon and righteous acts during this night whilst prior to this he might have lacked honour and dignity on account of an unrighteous life he might have led.

The greatest virtue of the night is that the acts of worship performed on this single night is better than worship in 1000 months (83 years, 4 months).

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, "He who spends the Night of Qadr in the worship of Allāh, all his past sins will be forgiven.

In another narration Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said, "All the angels resident at the Lote Tree of the Uttermost Boundry descend in the leadership of Ḥaḍrat Jibr'īl عليهم السلام and greet every believer, man or woman, except the one who takes wine or eats pork."

In a different narration by Ḥaḍrat Anas رضي الله عنه the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, "When the night of Qadr occurs, Ḥaḍrat Jibr'īl descends on the earth with a huge gathering of angels and all of them pray for every servant of Allāh, man or woman, busy in ṣalāh or dhikr, to be blessed by Allāh تعالى.

The Messenger ﷺ was asked what supplication should be made if one finds the night. The Messenger ﷺ replied,
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّيْ
O Allāh, Indeed You are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ instructed to search for it (the night) in the odd nights of the last ten days.

[Ma'āriful Qur'ān, Volume 8]

Ibn Al-Qayyim says: "If Laylatul Qadr was a single night out of the year, I'd endeavour the whole year until I found it! What then are mere ten nights."

[Badā'i' al-Fawā'id]

"Scholars mention the wisdom behind concealing the Night of Al-Qadr is so that one may become more diligent in striving for it, and work harder in order to attain what they seek. It wouldn't have been the case if the Night was singled out..."

‎The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Hold fast to good character and observe long periods of silence. By the one in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, no one can behave with deeds more beloved to Allah than these two.” (Ṭabarānī)

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله writes:

“The religion itself is entirely good character, so whoever surpasses you in character has surpassed you in religion. Likewise, it is such with spirituality (al-tasawwuf).

Al-Kanani said: Spirituality is itself good character, so whoever surpasses you in character has surpassed you in spirituality.”

And he said, “Good manners itself is the religion in its entirety.”

[Madārij al-Sālikīn 2/294]

One of the most important struggles any intelligent person should undertake is to acquire excellent etiquette in one’s character. Both the Law of Islām and sound reason testifies to its high importance and academics and experts alike are vocal in congratulating those who possess good manners.

Ibn Sīrīn رحمه الله said, “They [the scholars] would study and learn guidance in manners as they would study knowledge.”

Al-Haṣan رحمه الله said, “A man would have to spend years and then more years to refine his character.”

Say (on My behalf), "O servants of Mine who have acted recklessly against their own selves, do not despair of Allah's mercy. Surely, Allah will forgive all sins. Surely, He is the One who is the Most-Forgiving, the Very-Merciful. [39:53]

Said Ibn Jubayr reports from Sayyidna Ibn 'Abbas (رض) that there were some people who had killed a lot of people unjustly and had committed a lot of shameful acts. They came to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and submitted before him, 'The religion you invite us to is, no doubt, very good, but we have a problem. We think about all those major sins we have already committed. Now if we were to become Muslims, do you hope that our repentance will be accepted?' Thereupon, Allah Ta'ala revealed this verse to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) - reported by al-Bukhari in that sense. (al-Qurtubi)

Therefore, the outcome of the subject taken up in the verse comes to be that, well before death arrives, the repentance made from sins, no matter how serious, even from kufr (disbelief) and shirk (ascribing of partners to Allah), gets to be accepted. And by virtue of a genuine taubah (repentance), all sins will be forgiven, therefore, no one should lose hope in the mercy of Allah.

Sayyidna 'Abdullah Ibn 'Umar (رض) said that, out of all verses of the Qur'an, this verse brings the strongest message of hope for sinners. But, Sayyidna Ibn 'Abbas (رض) said that the strongest such verse is: "And surely, your Lord is the lord of forgiveness for the people against their wrongdoings." (Ar-Ra'd, 13:6)

[Ma'ariful Qur'an | Surah 39 - Az-Zumar - Ayah 53]

28/03/2024

There are two kinds of sins. Some of them are kabīrah, that is, major sins; others are saghīrah, (Sayyiʾāt) that is, minor sins. He who musters enough courage and succeeds in staying away from major sins, has been given a promise by Allāh Almighty that He will forgive his minor sins on His own.

Now, the act of staying away from major sins also includes the act of fulfilling all obligations (farḍ and wājib) because neglecting or abandoning obligations is a major sin in itself. Thus, we come to the conclusion that if one dutifully fulfills all obligations and succeeds in saving himself from all major sins, Allāh Almighty will overlook his minor sins.

We find that the expiation of sins through righteous deeds such as wuḍū, ṣalāh and the rest, which appear in aḥādīth, concerns minor sins. As for major sins, they are not forgiven without taubah (repentance); and for minor sins, the condition is that one should have made the effort to stay away and remain safe from major sins.

This leaves us with a note of warning - if someone, while staying involved in major sins, goes on performing his Wuḍū and Ṣalāh, then this wuḍū and ṣalāh and other righteous deeds will not at all expiate for even his minor sins, let alone the major ones. It is a warning that when a person appears on the fateful Day of Resurrection, carrying the heavy burden of his major and minor sins, he will find no helping hand to make his burden any lighter.

It is a peculiar style of the Qur’ān that when it warns of punishment against a sin, it is generally followed by some aspect of persuasion towards obedience.

A particular Divine reward has been mentioned and people have been persuaded to acquire it by staying away from major sins, in which case, Allāh Almighty will forgive their minor sins on His own. Thus, cleansed of all sins, major and minor, one could look forward to entering the home of honour and peace, the garden of Paradise.

Dear Allah,

You have blessed me with this blessed month, a month which many did not live to see. You granted me another opportunity to get closer to You. Though throughout the year I went on chasing the dunya, You brought this month to allow me to realise where my heart really belongs – with You.

Oh Allah, I have sinned and I continue to sin, but You are all forgiving. I am a begger in Your court, asking for Your pardon. Please forgive me.

Oh Allah, I face trials like everyone else, but found solace in Your words - 'Indeed, after hardship comes ease'. I found comfort in the way shown by Your Prophet (peace be upon him). I read his biography and the tests he faced – my difficulties were no longer worth mentioning.

Oh Allah, I lost my path many times. I wandered afar often succumbing to my desires and the whispers of the devil, but I held Your book as my guide and You showed me the light – this religion.

Oh Allah, I am sorry. I know I forget You when I am awake, and You remember me when I am asleep. I forget You when I laugh, You remember me when I cry. I forget You when I love, You remember me when I hate. I forget You when I eat, You remember me when I am hungry. I forget You when I speak, You remember me when I am silent. I forget You when I am angry, You remember me when I am patient.

But please, Oh Allah, don’t forget me when I die and enable me to remember You now whilst I am alive.

Yours sincerely,
A striving soul

"But you prefer the life of this world. Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting."
[Qur'ān, Sūrah A'lā (87), verse 16-17]

The highest degree of comfort and pleasure in this life is not free from hardships and grief. Secondly, this world isn't permanent. We experience in our daily life that a king of today becomes a pauper tomorrow. A vigorous youth of today becomes old tomorrow. Whereas the Hereafter is free of these defects. All of its comforts and blessings are much better and cannot be compare to that of this world.

Consider this scenario: It is said to a person that there are two houses, one of which is a magnificent mansion, the other an ordinary, substandard house. He has a choice to take the mansion but only for a month or two thereafter he will have to vacate the mansion. On the other hand, he may take the ordinary house which he will permanently own.

Which of the two houses would a wise person prefer? Obviously, the second house.

On this analogy, one should prefer the blessings of the Hereafter which in this case are not only ever lasting but far more superior to the worldly comforts which are only temporary. Only an unfortunate fool will prefer the blessings of this life compared to the hereafter.

Ramaḍān is the perfect time to cultivate our akhlāq (good character), to develop forbearance, and to refrain from reacting when provoked. ‎The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Hold fast to good character and observe long periods of silence. By the one in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, no one can behave with deeds more beloved to Allah than these two.” (Ṭabarānī)

23/03/2024

The ʿabd (servant) is subsequently prescribed to say "Allāh is the Most Great" and then to fall down in prostration to the floor to let all his limbs individually demonstrate their servitude to Allāh; his forehead placed on the floor before his Lord, his face - the most honorable part of his body - comes together with the dust on the floor, and all the while his heart humbles itself to Allāh. The arrangement of this posture is such that his lower body ends up in a higher level than his upper limbs (i.e. the face), emphasizing his submission. His heart and body are thus rendered humble and submissive before the Greatness and Glory of the Lord. Moreover, when the state of the heart conforms to the state of the body in this position (i.e. both are humble, submissive and down to earth), it is as if the heart too prostrates to Allāh along with the forehead, nose, face, hands, knees and feet. An ʿabd with such humility and submissiveness shall be among Allāh's favoured servants. This is because the closest an ʿabd comes to his Lord is when he is in the state of prostration.

In this posture, it is prescribed for the ʿabd to not have any part of his body depend on any other part for support; that is, he should avoid placing the weight of his thighs on his legs, maintain a space between his belly and his legs, and keep a space between his arms by spreading them to the sides away from his body. This is so that each part of his physical self can individually demonstrate its slavery to Allāh. And it follows from what has been said that the slave (of Allāh) should in this posture be at the closest point to his Lord, as the Prophet Muḥammad ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam said: "The closest an ʿabd is to his Lord is when he is prostrating."

The reality of the prostration of the heart is its submission to Allāh, and the heart is able to remain in prostration until the Day of Judgment. One of the righteous Salaf was asked: "Does the heart prostrate?" He answered: "Indeed it does, by Allāh it prostrates such that it does not raise its head even once, and remains in prostration until it meets Allāh, Exalted be He."

At your appointed time, the Angel of Death will come to you. He will extract your soul from your body: at this point, there will be no going back, no chance to repent, no opportunity to make amends with your Creator. As your body is being prepared for its burial, your soul will ascend upwards on its own unique journey, depending on how you lived your life.

As you hear the footsteps of your loved ones walking away from your grave, you will be approached by two terrifying angels, Munkar and Nakīr, who will begin their interrogation. If you answer correctly, the grave will become a peaceful garden of Paradise. But if you don’t know the answer, the grave will become a pit from the Hellfire; dark, narrow and suffocating.

The only thing that will come to rescue you at this time will be your good deeds.

Your ṣalāh will be positioned by your head, fasting on your right, zakāh on your left, and your other good deeds (including charity, tying kinship, kindness to people) by your feet. Punishment will approach you from each of these directions, but each of your deeds will block the punishment, and intercede on your behalf by saying, “You have no means of access here.”

The arabic word tawakkul [توكّل] means trust.

The sense is that the believer should have total trust in Allāh, One and Pure, free from all conceivable associations and ascriptions, not simply theoretically but in deeds too and in all states and conditions of one's life.

In a sound Ḥadīth, the Prophet ﷺ has said that this does not mean that one should abandon material causes and means when it comes to taking care of ones legitimate needs.

The point is that one should not consider material means and instruments as sufficient for real success, instead of which, one should do his best, subject to his ability and courage, to assemble and utilise necessary material means.

It is only after that one should entrust his matter with Allah, believing that He is the One who has created all the means and He is certainly the One who makes means to bear fruits. What would come to be has to be what He has willed.

In another Ḥadīth, the Prophet ﷺ has said 'Make a moderate effort to procure what you need through material means and then place your trust in Him.'

[Maʿāriful Qurʾān, Volume 4, page 154-155]

Reliance upon Allāh means entrusting one's affairs to Allāh and relying upon Allāh for the matter at hand as well as all other matters, whether religious or worldly. This is a sign of one's faith in Allāh and evidence for one's belief in and implementation of tawḥīd. Relying upon others when only Allāh can help is considered to be a form of shirk.

During times of trauma and difficulty, reliance upon Allāh entails employing the means created by Allāh that are likely to lead to the desired outcome, as long as they are within the limits of the Sharʿīah. At the same time, one should trust in and depend upon Allāh and upon Allāh's mercy, power and ability to do things. Those who rely upon Allāh do not abandon the means to achieve the end result, nor do they abandon hope in Allāh's mercy and rely upon themselves instead.

Relying upon Allāh is an act of worship of the heart. It encompasses the understanding that, in reality, there is no helper except Allāh. We may consult others, ask others for their assistance and even pay for their services, but in the end, the only true help comes from Allāh and Allāh is the only One who can save us from the predicaments in which we find ourselves.
