Thank you to our new friends of Cat Friends of Aransas County for helping move some kitties today to a no kill shelter.
We would also like to announce that little Octopus found his forever home today. His new mom is so excited to have him join her family. He would not stop talking about how excited he was while we were working on the paperwork. His meow could be heard outside. Congratulations Octopus on your new forever family

ACAC cannot guarantee that an animal will not be euthanized. All animals are carefully evaluated with regard to health and behavior to ensure it is safe to place the animal in a home.

So a few weeks ago when we asked for temporary fosters for the dogs during the storm Alberto our friend Lisa fostered Simba. While he was in her care she found an adopter for him. She worked her magic and got him all set up with volunteer drivers to get him to his new home in Washington. We have been patiently waiting to announce his official adoption until he was able to get on the road to his forever home. Congratulations Simba on finding your forever home. And thank you Lisa for fostering Simba and doing all the hard work to get him to his final destination. You rocked this adoption.

YAY!!! Today 9 kittens and 3 dogs have left to rescue today!!! Tomorrow 11 kittens are leaving to another rescue!!!

HURRICANE BERYL UPDATE No. 2

The Aransas County Office of Emergency Management strongly advises evacuations for all residents and visitors ahead of Hurricane Beryl. It will take time to evacuate Aransas County. Those who can leave should do so immediately.

The Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor and update residents through CODE RED and the Aransas County page. Residents are urged to sign up for CODE RED by texting ARANSAS to 99411.

HURRICANE BERYL UPATE No. 1

The Aransas County Office of Emergency Management recommends a voluntary evacuation ahead of Hurricane Beryl, which is expected to make landfall late Sunday evening or early Monday morning. Please take all precautions to prepare your family for this potentially hazardous weather event. Residents in low-lying areas, those with special needs, or those housed in RVs should immediately begin voluntary evacuations. All remaining residents are encouraged to activate their emergency management plans, ensure that your vehicles have a full tank of gas, and charge all cell phones. The Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor and update residents through CODE RED and the Aransas County page. Residents are urged to sign up for CODE RED by texting ARANSAS to 99411.

*** Temporary Fosters ***

With Beryl coming in and the weather for us is changing. We have 7 dogs in outside pens. We are trying not to double up bringing them inside. We are hoping to find temporary fosters for 7 dogs for 5 days. We can provide food and kennel for the 5 days. Please contact us if you are able to foster any of our dogs for 5 days.

Also tomorrow July 4th we are closed and want to remind people about keeping your dogs safe and secure at night. Fireworks are very terrifying to dogs and can lead to them escaping and running around. Please lets keep them safe.

Did you hear the great news. Capricorn got adopted today. She didn’t get to go to the adoption event today but our dedicated officers made special arrangements for a meet and greet today after the Pet Wants adoption event. It was love at first site. Capricorn was so excited to pick out several toys to take with her from our adoption prize basket. She also got to pick out a brand new to her dog bed to take with her. She was so excited she didn’t even look back as she left. Congratulations Capricorn on finding your forever home.

We noticed that some of our animals were featured in the newspaper. At this time there is no kill list. We are happy to announce that seven of the thirteen dogs featured have been adopted. The six remaining dogs have been at our facility for a long time, and that makes us sad. But it also means that six loving, happy, and healthy dogs are still up for adoption, and we would love the opportunity to introduce them to you! Our attorney says that we can’t officially make any promises about these dogs. But we think it’s safe to say that a lifetimes’ worth of unconditional love, tail wags, wet noses, and belly rubs could be yours in exchange for our very reasonable adoption fee.

In all seriousness, our job is multi-faceted. It’s a careful balance of ensuring public safety and serving the best interests of all animals in our care. At times, we have the best job in the world: bottle-feeding kittens and snuggling puppies. Other times, it’s the worst job in the world: making humane decisions for some animals because their owners failed them. These kinds of decisions might cause some people to label us as a “kill shelter.” To be clear, those decisions are never taken lightly, they keep us awake at night, and they’re never done simply to manage the overcrowding of our facilities.

We hope this explanation settles any questions that you might have. If you take anything away from this post, let it be this: we have lots of animals that deserve to find their fur-ever homes. If you want to help us in our mission to rehome these animals, please reach out to us.

Moana decided she needed a quick nap in the car while she cools off after snowcone while we are at puppy palooza at Petwants. This girl loves car rides and had the best time checking out all the snacks and food inside Pet Wants. She is available for adoption with Aransas County Animal Care Services. Stop on by today while we are here to meet her and fill out an adoption application.

We have some great news. Pongo who was fostered during the storm has decided that his foster family is going to be his forever family. Mom was so excited to sign his paperwork today to officially make him a part of his their family. We so happy for Pongo and his new family. Congratulations
