Meet darling Lucky. He is a Rottweiler/Lab mix and is 4 years old, neutered, hw neg, current on everything, and will know tomorrow if he's chipped.
Lucky's family is getting transferred to New York, and due to his breeds, he is not allowed on base. Lucky is one of those dogs who is a unicorn. Along with being housebroken, he is also crate-trained. He also loves everyone. The smallest in his house right now is 10 months old, so kids are definitely something he loves.
Lucky will be heading to foster with the potential to adopt a family next week.
It is only with fosters that we can keep saving dogs.

Today is the day to call your vet if your dog is reactive to fireworks! And please do not use Ace. It is a paralytic, but your dog will be stuck, paralyzed in their fear.

Meet Harvey. We received an email about this darling boy needing immediate placement due to stress with his little sister and a new baby due in the next couple weeks. The rescue keeps a list of approved homes for dobermans for situations just like this.
Harvey is heading to one of our adopters who has been with us since the beginning 13 yrs ago and is now also a board member with the rescue. We are thankful we have people who have dobermans as their children, because we do not require all the dogs we take in to get along with other pets or children.
Have fun on the farm Harvey and we know you are going to love it there!!!!

We all here are praying for our G.R.P.D. K9 Dozer

As you may have heard, GRPD K9 Dozer was injured in a traffic crash in the line of duty early Friday morning. He has been diagnosed with a severe spinal injury, causing paralysis in his hind legs. The good news is that his spinal cord is intact and at this time, the prognosis is that Dozer will likely walk again. As of this morning, he has shown some slight movement in his left rear leg, which is small but positive progress. We don’t yet know if he will regain full function in his legs – only time will tell. We expect that he will be released to continue his recovery at home with his human partner, Officer Teddy Vanvliet, early this week. We very much appreciate the outpouring of support and well wishes from the Grand Rapids community and beyond, and other K9 units across the state and we are extremely grateful for the excellent medical care and expertise in Grand Rapids and Farmington Hills. We will provide additional updates as they are available.

Our director is on a family trip over in Europe right now. The last couple days have been in the beautiful country where our breed originated from. The sad thing is, not one dobermann was seen in any of the towns she has stopped in so far. Thankfully we still have a love and appreciation for them in USA

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. That means time with family and friends. It also means lots of yummy food and celebrations.
Although Thanksgiving is a fun time for us, it can be a dangerous time for pets. Keep these holiday safety tips in mind as you prepare for the festivities.

Not all of the yummy food we make is safe for pets. In fact most of it isn't. Holidays foods can contain hazards like onions, garlic, chocolate, alcohol, nuts, high sodium, high fat, and more. Allowing pets to eat these foods (even in small quantities) can lead to diarrhea, vomiting, pancreatitis, intoxication, or worse. Keep pets out of the kitchen when cooking and out of the dining room when eating. Discourage quests (and kids) from giving pets table scraps.

If you do want to give your pet a special treat, talk to your vet about what is safe for your pet (especially if your pet has any medical conditions or dietary restrictions).
