Belize Bird Rescue is home to more than just rescued and released birds. Abundant fruit trees and protected wooded areas on the property provide safety to wild species like this royal flycatcher.

Rehabilitation is not possible unless released birds have habitat in which to live. Conserving wild places means conserving the birds who live in them. By recycling cardboard and paper products, decreasing consumption of animal products, purchasing sustainable paper products and produce, and supporting NGO's dedicated to protecting forests, you can help decrease our impact on the world's forests.

Timneh Tuesday… ❤️

Chewy has been here for 6 years this month! He’s in his lower to mid 30’s and he has been going strong. Friday evening Chewy was completely normal pestering Matt the way that he loves to do. 😂 (Fun to watch, haha)

Saturday afternoon… he wasn’t himself. That fast… he went from completely normal to needing emergency care. We used our critical care unit for him as well as on hand medication that we keep here …with guidance from a veterinarian on our board. With 200+ birds here, we always have to be prepared as much as we can. Chewy was acting as normal as possible like birds instinctually do …which is why it is so very important to watch birds for even the smallest of changes. Chewy stayed overnight at the vet. He’s strong willed and pretty unstoppable. He has had tests run, X-rays, and more testing this afternoon. His doctor has found the issue but he needs further testing to find the absolute best treatment.

ALWAYS monitor your birds for small changes. Once a bird shows that they’re sick, it can already be to late which is why it is EXTREMELY important to get them professional veterinarian care as quickly as possible. It may just save their life!

We look forward to having him home. Chewy is precious,…and he’s a hoot!!!

Here is Chewy from this past winter….some may remember this video.
