MOONACRE SANCTUARY: SPOOKY SEASON! OUR GHOST!
Volunteers have reported seeing a ghostly white dog silently moving through the rooms at MoonAcre farmhouse! Spooky!

This is MoonAcre's GHOST! Our beautiful, goofy, English Pointer is just 2 years old, with no health or behaviour issues. GHOST has a docile character. He gets on very well with all other dogs, and is happy to play doggy games when invited. He is calm around horses and farm animals. He loves people, and really enjoys affection. He is an obedient and well mannered dog.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY:SID UPDATE: Thankfully SID is home in one piece again! The emergency vet has done a brilliant job on SID's lacerations. SID is on antibiotics, and we are keeping a close eye in case there is any residual bleeding through his urinary tract.

Eleanor Grace and I would like to express our grateful thanks for the emergency donations towards our fuel and SID's surgery. The bill is settled. All remaining donations will go towards this weeks feed bill which is due on Friday. Thank you everyone who answered our plea for help. Your generosity is keeping MoonAcre's animals safe.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: Today one of our nightmares became a reality.
There was a 5 dog fight in which SID the Terrier was severely lacerated across the groin. We treated for shock but quickly realised that the injuries went too deep for us to address. We called the emergency vet to be prepared for surgery.

Our truck had barely enough diesel to reach the main road, and due to our lack of funds we were unable to buy fuel to get us across the city to the emergency vet. Thankfully, a fellow rescuer answered my desperate phone call and transferred fuel money immediately. SID went straight into surgery to be sedated and stitched. He should be home tomorrow for cage rest.

We are desperately short of funds due to a massive drop in donations and sponsorship. We have no options to rehome dogs or relocate them to other rescues to get our numbers down. We have vet bills, hay bills, insurance bills, and rent payments which are overdue - we are constantly feeding a black hole of debt.
Once again, I am appealing to everyone who values the work that Eleanor Grace and I do, to please send us a donation. I really do not know how else we will get through the coming week or how we can pay SID's vet bill.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: MAKING EVERY DAY MAGICAL

Life is uncertain, especially for vulnerable animals whose physical and mental disabilities mean that they will never live normal lives.

My vision for MOONACRE was to give the most disadvantaged animals their own beautiful life stories. What has always amazed me is how many people come to MOONACRE to make memories with our animals.

My grateful thanks go out to all our compassionate volunteers who have made MoonAcre such a special place to be in the past few weeks.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: FOR ADOPTION: TERRIER SID
We keep hearing that everyone wants to adopt small dogs, but so far we have had zero interest in our boy SID. This is a real pity because SID is one of the nicest little dogs we have ever rescued at MoonAcre. We highly recommend you take a look at this dog!
SID came to us this year from living rough on the streets. He is such a sweet natured, friendly, loving little lad, that we are sure he was once a very loved dog, before he somehow ended up alone.
Our SID is around 3 years old and very sociable. He is a very obedient dog with nice manners. He gets on with all types of dogs, and of course, he loves people! SID is a big cuddler! He will happily sit on a lap all day, and I know from experience that he is a top quality snuggler at night! SID is a big smiler too! He has a happy character that just makes everybody cheerful in his company.
SID loves to play - fetch being his favourite game. He loves car rides, and he loves his walkies - he is very well behaved on and off lead. SID can be taken anywhere thanks to his good behaviour, so he is an ideal dog for a variety of lifestyles.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: FOR ADOPTION: POINTER PUPPY POPPY
This cutie is currently in our care following amputation surgery to her front leg.
POPPY was brought into a vet clinic by her owner to be put to sleep. Her front leg had been crushed by farm machinery, and had become badly infected due to lack of treatment. The vet offered amputation but the owner refused and gave up the puppy to the vet. Fortunately for little POPPY, the vet made the amputation and sent her to MOONACRE for post surgical rehabilitation.
POPPY is a young dog still under 1 year old. She has a very friendly, sunny personality, and loves her cuddles and sofa time. She is excellent around other dogs, loves to play and run, she loves toys, and always seems ready for walks!
POPPY has no behaviour or health issues. She is a typical Pointer who loves to seek and fetch. We think POPPY will be a delightful, good natured, and friendly family dog - so please help us to find that forever family that this little POPPY truly deserves!

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: FOR ADOPTION: GEORGE
Our boy, GEORGE, is now in foster care in Cyprus, as an emotional support dog to BETTY, our burns victim. BETTY has made incredible progress thanks to GEORGE. Just like all of us at MoonAcre, our foster parents cannot believe that GEORGE is still looking for a real home!
GEORGE is a pure GSP (German Shorthair Pointer) who found his way to our gates in September 2022 as a frail, starving youngster. We took him into our family Sanctuary, and GEORGE quickly became a favourite with humans and other dogs because of his easy going, playful character.
GEORGE is around 2 years old now. He is a wonderfully gentle, sweet natured dog with no behaviour issues whatsoever. He is very loving and cuddly. He will happily sleep away his day or play with other dogs until it's walkies time, when he patiently waits to receive his harness and lead. GEORGE is perfect on and off lead. His foster parents currently walk him in a hiking group where has proved to be the perfect group companion.
We all think that GEORGE is so calm and adaptable that he would fit into any type of home, as a perfect only dog or companion to a resident dog. He is very friendly towards all adults and children, doesn't jump, bark or have any negative characteristics.
On arrival 12 months ago GEORGE tested positive to leishmania, but following a full course of treatment, he has since tested negative. If Leishmania is concerning to you, please speak to us about GEORGE's test scores, and health record. We have rehomed several Leishmania positive dogs who live normal, healthy lives with their new families.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: BETTY UPDATE: We are very pleased to report that BETTY is making huge improvements in confidence and socialisation with her foster parents in our village. GEORGE, our fabulous German Shorthair Pointer, has joined BETTY for moral support! However, it appears that BETTY is the boss of the two! Foster parents report that GEORGE is so chilled out as to be horizontal, so BETTY takes the lead in exploring the garden and the house!
Both BETTY and GEORGE are available for adoption so please message me or MoonAcre if you would like to know more about adopting either dog - or about adopting any MoonAcre dog or cat.
Our dogs and cats are health screened, fully vaccinated, parasite treated, and passported for foreign travel. Our dogs are house trained, lead trained, car trained, and very well socialised. Our cats are trained for indoor and outdoor living, and are used to being handled and cuddled. MOONACRE offers full rescue back up on adopted animals, so if your circumstances change and you cannot keep our animal, we will be there to support them, no matter where they are located.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: URGENT PLEA FOR FUNDS! PLEASE HELP US WITH A DONATION!
We are completely out of funds. Our situation is very serious. We need food supplies for 101 animals in our care by 20th October at the latest.
Those of you who know me understand that I do not easily ask for help. I lost my income in February. We have been surviving on a week by week basis giving the best level of care on a very tight budget. I am unable to provide for the animals without donations. Our situation is critical - we cannot fuel our vehicle for essential vet runs. This is really scary because it leaves us very vulnerable in an emergency.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: BETTY UPDATE: For the past 2 weeks we have had a volunteer experienced in working with traumatised dogs, focus on BETTY the burns victim.
The result has been spectacular! Young BETTY has come out of her shell, and we are now exposing BETTY to life outside of MoonAcre.
As you can see from these photos taken today, BETTY is in very good physical condition and her paws have healed extremely well. For reference, I have included a photo of BETTY when she first arrived into our care.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: We are in a tremendous amount of financial difficulty. Our donations are a fraction of what we need to get through a week, and we have no alternative source of funding.

We are not a rescue with resources or staff. Eleanor Grace and I are handling over 100 animals alone 7 days a week. We face enormous challenges every day to maintain the Sanctuary and our animals in a reasonable condition. We are completely overwhelmed.

As of this week we are not able to provide our animals with the ongoing medical care they need. Our Paypal is at zero. We have no assistance from other rescue groups, no help with rehoming our dogs and cats - and this is not for the want of asking for help because we MUST urgently reduce our numbers!

I am appealing for donations to come in specifically to meet our medical needs. As you know, our primary function is providing nursing care to vulnerable animals. We require Euro 265 to purchase Librella treatments for our elderly and arthritic residents. Librella delivers enhanced mobility and therefore a huge improvement in their life quality. MOONACRE SANCTUARY: I have tragic news about PANDORA.
We believe that Pandora was deliberately shot with a full bore on Sunday afternoon.
Eleanor Grace and I were out at the supermarket. We returned to find a heavy trail of blood on the front porch. We checked all dogs - Pandora was missing. We searched the property, and then the roads. Nothing. We searched Monday and Tuesday, we found her at 1pm yesterday. She was deceased and in a bad way. We collected her up and took her to our vet for proper disposal.
We thinK Pandora had wandered through the horse section onto the road, and met someone who shot at her. We cannot believe what has happened. Pandora was such a quiet, shy dog. Nobody wanted her despite her beauty and gentle manner. All too late now. Thank you to her loyal sponsors for supporting her during her short life.
She was very happy with us, we are sure of that.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: BETTY UPDATE

We are happy to report that BETTY has made a full recovery from her 3rd degree burns. She has grown new paw pads, fur, and nails, and her toes are reformed. BETTY is on her feet, walking normally.

Our work is done. BETTY is ready to be discharged from MoonAcre.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: ADOPTIONS UPDATE: Today we learned that MILKA's adoption has been cancelled. It means that all 5 adopters who were approved for MoonAcre adoptions for Saturday's flight to UK, have pulled out.

This is a big disappointment because we had so many hopes for our beautiful dogs MILKA, PIPPA, GEORGE, SID and BENBO.

We shall begin again. Our dogs deserve so much more than to spend their lives in rescue.

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: It's a really tough Summer here in Cyprus. This year we are struggling to take care of 90 animals in the extreme heat, and with just the two of us to do the intensive care nursing, twice daily shift work, and attempt repairs to fences, gates, and buildings which are in need of repair. There is no way to describe how tough it is, every day, 7 days a week, with no respite. Sometimes I can't handle the exhaustion, and I give up, but Eleanor Grace never stops, no matter how shattered she is day and night.

Getting the numbers of animals down is the only way to ease the strain, and that means adoptions. We were very encouraged to have 4 dogs going through the adoption process in July, but all the applicants pulled out before the flight date. This month, we have 1 confirmed adoption, MILKA, and we have our fingers crossed for her.

When my posts drop off because I am too tired to do anything after my shift, I am conscious that our animals for adoption are not reaching the audience who might be interested in them. I wish I could do more for them, and I promise that I am going to try harder to find homes for our dogs and cats. If anyone can help in any way with this, please, please message me! I would love to hear from you!

In the meantime, here is a glimpse of our gorgeous little boy SID, who came close to having a home in July, but not close enough, and is still here with us! SID is a sweet natured, ray of sunshine, a friend to everyone he meets, and a lovely companion dog. I will be promoting SID and several other MOONACRE dogs in the next days, hoping to find those elusive forever families. Please SHARE my adoption posts wherever you can!

MOONACRE SANCTUARY: BETTY, our burns patient, is continuing to heal. As you can see from this video, the burns on BETTY's face are no longer showing, and BETTY herself is much more approachable. The severe burns to BETTY's paws are also healing - unfortunately we cannot post photos of her paws as they are a bit gruesome. The important point is that BETTY is getting better.
