Save Our Cocker Spaniels - SOCKS A Sanctuary and Rescue
We love Cocker Spaniels but will assist with others if fosters are available. Welcome to Save Our Cocker Spaniels or SOCKS!

We are a registered 501c3 organization

We don’t really have a set boundary but we are attempting to help rescue cocker spaniels from mid FL to south GA and from Jacksonville Fl through the panhandle to South Al and Southeastern MS. We still have some great foster homes in the southern part of the state so may pop up there every now and then who knows! We do adopt out of state but we are limiting

adoptions to Florida, Georgia, Southern Alabama and South East Mississippi. We do require adopters to come to Florida to meet and pick up their new family members. Our pups will not be allowed to fly cargo on any airliner. Our adoption fees:
1 year and younger- $500
13 months to 5 years - $400
6 years to 9 years - $350
10 Years and over - $250

Mission Statement: To educate cocker spaniel owners of the care, health concerns and behavioral needs of a cocker spaniel prior to their adoption. To ensure cocker spaniels in our care are placed in foster care prior to finding an appropriate loving forever home. To provide quality veterinary care to all cocker spaniels in our care. PLEASE READ BELOW:
1. SOCKS ADOPTS TO FAMILIES IN FLORIDA, GEORGIA, SOUTHERN ALABAMA AND SOUTHEASTERN MISSISSIPPI. IF YOU ARE OUT OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA YOU WOULD NEED TO TRAVEL TO FLORIDA TO COMPLETE YOUR ADOPTION.
2. WE DO CHECK VET REFERENCES AND YOUR CURRENT PETS MUST BE UP TO DATE ON VACCINATIONS, HEARTWORM TESTING AND BE ABLE TO PROVIDE PROOF OF PURCHASE OF HW PREVENTION.
3. ALL DOGS AND CATS IN YOUR HOME MUST BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED.
4. IF WE DO NOT KNOW A DOG’S HISTORY WITH CHILDREN WE WILL NOT ADOPT TO A FAMILY WITH YOUNG CHILDREN.
5. ADOPTIONS ARE NOT DONE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. WE WILL ACCEPT APPLICATIONS AND THEN SCREEN ALL AND CHOOSE THE BEST MATCH.
6. WE WILL NOT SET UP MEET AND GREETS UNTIL YOU HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION. TRANSPORTATION TO A MEET AND GREET IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE POTENTIAL ADOPTER.
7. ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS WILL BE CONTACTED.

8/29/24 Peluche update: I am not going to post a pic of his injured leg. FB would probably block it and it's pretty nasty. He does have a broken toe as well as the degloving. But with extra padding and staying in the grass he is able to get around well. Thank you Marietta Animal Hospital for everything you are doing for our boy.

Peluche update! He is doing well. Eating good and tried to steal the cats leftovers when he finished. Dr. Boyd changed his dressing yesterday and was able to do this without having to sedate him. And today he even peed on his own! Cuddled with the staff today and Dr. Boyd said he is so very sweet and gentle even with how painful his wound must be.

On Rainbow Bridge Rememberance Day, we pay tribute to those very special and significant family members…our pets. 🐾
They are not just animals. They are family…our furbabies…our friends.

Today we honor those special SOCKS rescues who took a piece of our hearts with them. 💔 Some were with us longer than others. Every one of their lives mattered. We made sure their years, months, days, or, in some cases, even hours were filled with love.

We would like to invite you to share the name, photo and memories of your furbabies. If you would like to, and are able, make a donation in memory of your furbaby to support our life-saving efforts to help innocent animals have a much deserving second chance at a new life. Should you be interested, permanent memorials can be made on the SOCKS website at https://www.saveourcockerspaniels.org/memorials

MEMPHIS, a SOCKS extended family member is our Tongue Out Tuesday star this week.

Memphis was an owner surrender adopted by one of our volunteers. She tells us he is a docile, happy boy who enjoys riding and is very intelligent. Word has it that he is sweet on a cute little neighbor girl dog. 🥰 Upon some investigation, his mom discovered Memphis is related to several West Minister champions! His mom loves him very much no matter what his background is.

8/26/24 Update: Peluche is now in Jacksonville at Marietta Animal Hospital. Amie and Tom picked him up last evening from the ER vet to try to hold down the cost of his care. Just the few hours he was there came to just over $2500. I picked him up this morning in Deltona and took him up to our vet. They are getting all of the xrays form the ER and will evaluate and let us know what their plan is. He is such a sweet boy. Even got a few tail wags this morning.

**We Need Our Village**
Today, we received a message from Christine at Fl Brittany Rescue about Peluche a young English Cocker less than a year old that was hit by a car in Winter Park and at their Vet Emergency Center. His owner is a young family and they couldn’t afford his medical care so putting him to sleep was their only option. Christine’s contact at the Vet Emergency Center in Tampa contacted her about him and she messaged us. We immediately jumped in and called the Vet at the Winter Park VEG and they had the owner surrender him to SOCKS. He has hip fractures and a degloving injury where the skin is pulled away from the bone. He is stable and they have done all they can do until he heals. We will be picking him up and taking him to our vet Dr Sanders in Jacksonville to determine next steps and a plan for him. As you can imagine his treatment will be expensive but he is young and deserves this chance at a wonderful life. Today is International Blind Dog Day. Blind dogs are amazing! They can get around their home as well as a sighted dog. Just don’t go moving the furniture. They play. They run. They can traverse steps and jump up in the sofa. They love and will steal your heart. And they won’t make fun of what you’re wearing. LOL. Don’t shy away from making them a member of your family. You will be missing out on a new best friend.

We would like to share with you some of our rescues that are blind or “legally blind.”
Row 1: Forever Foster ABI, Alumni ANGEL, Forever Foster AURORA
Row 2: Foster BENNY, Forever Foster ERICA
Row 3: Alumni LADYBUG, Alumni PEANUT, Forever Foster TOBY

We would love to see your blind babies and hear their stories

**Oops! Christmas in August Flash Auction is OPEN!**

SOCKS is having their annual slightly late Christmas in July auction in August to raise money for our medical fund. And, we’ve decided to have several smaller flash auctions rather than one big auction so stay tuned to our page to check them all out. Anyone with animals knows vetting has gotten so expensive just like everything else and we take in the seniors and special needs dogs and those that have been so neglected and need significant care before we can find them an amazing home so often they are with us for months to get them where they need to be. With that said we can’t possibly fundraise for each dog that comes in since we have 21 dogs in our Forever Foster Sanctuary and have 3-4 dogs at the vet every week in addition to the new ones we bring into rescue weekly. And donations are down across the board to all rescues so we are just trying to do what’s needed to continue to save these wonderful dogs! We need our village to help us with that!

Flash Auction Rules and Information
Auction Dates: Auction opens Saturday, August 24th at 7:00 PM EST and closes ‪Sunday, September 1st at 8:00 PM EST‬.

**We shouldn’t have to say this but please don’t bid if you don’t plan to pay. It only hurts the dogs**

To Bid: Place your bid amounts in the comments of the item photo. All items bids are to be in $1.00 increments. If you are a new bidder please include your email address.

Payment: After the auction closes, high bidders will be notified and have one week to remit payment in PayPal or make arrangements to send a check by emailing Sue at ‪[email protected]‬. We do understand that that things do come up and we will work with you if additional time is needed. Postage will be added to all bid totals and will be rounded up to the next dollar to pay for packing supplies.

SOCKS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation funded by donations, fundraiser and adoption fees that works to find permanent, loving homes for neglected and abandoned Cocker Spaniels in the Fl area and often beyond. All donations are Federal Tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Please contact a tax professional if you have any questions.

Are ya’ll ready for this update? Remember Maz, the little Schnauzer that was attacked by a big dog and had both sides of his jaw broken? His family turned him over to SOCKS because they couldn’t afford the emergency vet bill. He was in our rescue a while having surgery with plates inserted and allowing for the healing process. It was quite an undertaking and we were praying for the best. This update is from his mom.

Bentley AKA Maz turned one year in June and continues to be a delight to have with us. We both love him dearly and trust me when I say he is being treated with all the love and care one could ask for. We thank his fosters Julia and Mike for all the time they put in to fostering and giving us our precious little boy. ❤️

Welcome Patton to SOCKS! Patton is a handsome 7 yr old English Cocker that has been retired from a GA breeder. He has been dropped off at our vet in Jacksonville and will be getting the works including being neutered while there. We will post more about him once he’s in his foster home. ❤️ donations for his medical care would be appreciated! If you’d like to be a monthly/medical sponsor for Patton please message the page. It’s only $10 a month.

Ok, lets get this show on the road. Monday I had the works. Vaccines, Heartworm test which was negative, f***l, microchip, eye pressure check which was good and both my ears were infected and had to be treated with Claro. Also had a urine test that showed bacteria so they put me on antibiotics and will have that redone in two weeks. Today, I’m having bloodwork, being spayed and having a dental. My golden locks will also be shaved off and that’s being done today in case I need to be sedated because of all the mats. My mouth is pretty bad so may lose a few teeth but we’ll see. Ms Sue said not to worry about my hair because it will grow back and now that I’m eating healthy food my hair will be prettier than before. So, you can see this has been an expensive week for SOCKS just for me…well over $1,000. So, if you have a few dollars to spare I sure would appreciate you donating for my care. I’m excited to be out of the breeding kennel and to get this over with so I can find my new furever home. I can’t tell you how much I love being around people, having good food and a comfy bed. And I get loads of love and tummy rubs from my foster family too!❤️ Freckles

In Florida, it has been on the news where dogs have been locked in cars while there owners were at a theme park several times. How can people be so stupid?
Please share and see if we can educate some people. If it saves even one dog, it’s worth the time.

So this is what happens when Judy, our SOCKS President has spare time on her hands. Yesterday, her car broke down on the way to GA to pick up a dog so she had to reschedule picking up an English Cocker to be brought into rescue and taking to the vet. And then all in the vet’s office have COVID so everything was moved to next week. In the meantime time, Judy has Forever Foster Princess Penny, Foster Bentley and Alumni Drummond painting artwork. They actually did a pretty great job! 😂

Today, Sue and Deb, SOCKS volunteers picked up 5 small breed dogs from a small rescue overloaded with strays with no animal control in rural GA to take to A Place Of Hope Small Dog Rescue in Pensacola. We found out about this rescue in need from our friend Christine at Florida Brittany Rescue, Inc. Rescues helping other Rescues is what it’s all about! ❤️

Alum DIANA swung by for Tongue Out Tuesday. Isn’t she adorable?!

Diana came to SOCKS about 1-1/2 years ago after being released from a breeder. She was checked out, brought up to date on her vaccinations, tested for heartworm, spayed and had a dental. We did find out she had a heart murmur and was put on meds.

It didn’t take long (no surprise to us) that this little girl wormed her way into her foster mom’s heart. Yep, we had a foster failure. This little girls is living her best life ever!
