Pawsitive Pawsibilities Pawsitive Pawsibilities is a charity committed to providing service dogs for children and military veterans with physical challenges.

Our goal is to place two service dogs a year with carefully selected recipients. These dogs change lives through their endless commitment to their owners and Pawsitive Pawsibilities is just as committed to crafting the perfect match between dog and person.

dear southwest,
your policies on charging for your service dog if it’s larger than a 2year old is discriminatory. service animals that assist in a physical activity will be larger than a 2 year old. you also can’t not allow me onto the flight if the flight is full because my dog is larger than a 2 year old. you also can’t expect me to completely fill out a brand new department of transportation form every time i fly when your policies don’t say anything about needing to fill out a new form every time. this is discrimination and you need to stop treating disabled individuals like they don’t have the dignity to acknowledge this treatment is discrimination and no other individual would take this treatment.

xoxo,
a very frustrated and exhausted disabled passenger

wow. the new documentary Crip Camp is a must watch for everyone. we always talk about the Civil Rights Movement but we never talk about the Disability Rights Movement. It is an amazing documentary exploring the disability rights movement and it’s leaders. it all started at camp for the disabled in New York.
•
there was and still are so many injustices in our world towards the disabled population. in 1977 we were able to get 504 to be passed so any public institution receiving federal funding was not allowed to discriminate. the leaders in the movement were fighting against the “separate but equal” discrimination when the government wanted to make one school that all the disabled go to so they stay out of the mainstream system. the revolutionaries of the 70’s helped pave a better path for the future disabled citizens.
•
but there was and still is the ugly truth that private institutions still are not under the same laws of ADA and 504 and if they want, they can still discriminate against the disabled. My personal life has proved there are still many injustices in this world against the disabled. we still get seen as “disabled” not as a human being. many people question our mental capacity just because we may be physically impaired.
•
just because we are disabled does not mean that we should not have access to all the same freedoms and respect that a non-handicapped person enjoys. we deserve to be treated equally by employers, businesses, the government, and our fellow citizens. we, as disabled, are just as intelligent, beautiful, strong and talented as our non-handicapped equivalents. i implore you to let your voice be heard and stand with us to help us change the bias.

as the great Martin Luther King Jr once said “change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle”

Dear Southwest,
I know I may not fit into your classic “disabled” box of being in a wheelchair and/or not being well-dressed but please stop making your own assumptions. I know you may see my Cal sweatshirt and make your assumption that no disabled person could be smart enough to go there... news flash: there’s a lot of disabled people at big universities and receiving big jobs. I feel extremely uncomfortable and judged when you tell me I can’t have two carry-ons because my service dog is considered one of them. I know it confuses you about how could I be disabled if I’m not a wheelchair. Its extremely disrespectful for you to tell me I have to PAY for my medical device to be on the plane with me. Do you realize if my dog was any smaller, he wouldn’t be able to help me walk? But please don’t put more restrictions on me due to your narrow mindedness.
•
As for TSA,
You may not understand why I can’t take my shoes off but please do not shout it through the whole checkpoint area bringing to light my disability. It makes me feel really uncomfortable when you’re yelling rudely about how “she can’t take her shoes off”. This is my own personal disease and you don’t need to make your assumptions .
•
I am tired and frustrated of people telling me I’m not disabled or that I don’t need my service dog just because I’m walking. I am tired of people basically telling me I need to be in a wheelchair to be disabled when I have fought my Muscular Dystrophy my whole life to have the options to choose my own mobility assistance device. If I hadn’t been doing physical therapy five days a week for the past 6 years and finding the most innovative surgeons to help keep my feet from atrophying completely, I would not be able to walk.
•
I truly hope you can open your eyes to the fact that some individuals choose to rely on their service animals for a variety of reasons. It should be our choice for how we live our lives. All we ask is for you to treat us with the same respect, access, and privacy that you give to everyone else. @ Ontario International Airport
