Austin Bulldog Rescue’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving and knowledgeable families for rescued English Bulldogs. We rescue bulldogs from animal shelters, other rescue groups and from owners who can no longer properly care

for their English Bulldog. Upon intake, we place each bulldog into a foster home that has been pre-approved and fully prepared to care for the specific needs of each bulldog. We provide and fund ALL health care needs for each bulldog while in our foster’s care…including medications, surgeries, vaccinations, preventatives, supplements and of course, spay and neuter. When healthy, happy and ready, each bulldog is matched with a pre-approved family and if all parties agree it is truly a perfect match, the bulldog is adopted into their furever home.

Edwin update. We wish it was better news. 😓

Edwin has been through hell since we saved him right before Christmas. He was officially diagnosed with hydrocephalus and his case is severe enough that it causes some painful pressure in the brain and even affects his vision. He ended up spending 24 hours at the ER where he was able to get fluids and start treatment to help keep the fluid from building in his brain that causes that pressure.

It's heartbreaking, but Edwin has a couple things going on that makes his life tricky. He has the hydrocephalus which in it's own is quite a bit, but then he also has deformation of his limbs, which makes it very hard for him to walk properly. Because he is a large breed dog (American bulldog and olde English) as he grows that mobility will get tricky and trickier and cause his joints lots of wear and tear and subsequently pain. 💔

In a perfect world, we would do surgery on Edwin to help alleviate some of the hydrocephalus issues. A shunt would be placed from his brain leading to his stomach enabling the fluid to drain from his skull versus stayimg trapped in his skull. That surgery is $20,000. We don't have that money and even more so it will not in any way alleviate the additional struggles of his body related to his deformities. We would just be putting him through a very costly and painful surgery just to experience even more pain in his life. We do not take these decisions lightly, and make every gut-wrenching choice with true quality of life in mind.

Right now what's important is that the medication that he was put on does seem to be helping and he is again enjoying life as a sweet and innocent puppy. He's got a foster Mom who loves him with her entire heart and he will be here until the moment he tells us he can't do it anymore. And then, we will let him go.

We love Edwin and we are immensely thankful for being able to have the opportunity for him to have a true family and real love for the first time in his life. This is why we need your help to meet our $2K donation match. 🙏

🚨URGENT SENIOR DOG IN NEED🚨

This poor old boy was taken to the San Antonio shelter on 12/31.

Imagine how terrifying the fireworks were for him and how difficult shelter life is for senior dogs. Then, add in that his skin is red and uncomfortable and his body feels like crap. 💔

We don’t have good dog notes and will assume he needs time and space in any home he goes to.

Please, if you can open your heart and home to this senior boy who is at risk and has been very failed by humans, reach out asap!

High capacity, high risk shelters don’t always have the resources to *really* look into who they trust with their animals. It’s all about saving lives and pretty much anyone can sign a paper and take a dog.

So, Gibson’s former owner was known and supposedly investigated. But that meant Gibson was evidence in a cruelty case, so he had to sit there with minimal care, as he grew sicker and weaker each day. On the final day of 2024, he was released to us.

Last year is gone. His cruel owner is gone. It’s time to save his life and leave the past in the past. Please consider helping Gibson:

Days where people make lots of scary noise can be rough for sweet and sensitive boys like Memphis. We thankfully know this and can do our very best to always compassionately support him through events like New Year fireworks. 🎆

Early preparation and realizing that a dog who struggles is not a BAD DOG. It's okay to need a little help sometimes in this scary world because honestly don't we all? ❤️

We started our day in anticipation for doing all we could to set this handsome guy up for success. We played lots this morning and afternoon, we're getting our calming meds and CBD in early, playing some relaxing dog calming music, diffusing lavender and have tons of fun puzzles and enrichment ready to go so he has his very own delicious party for extra distraction. 🍾

Look at this absolutely adorable and happy boy! Here's to hoping beyond it all that Memphis finds a loving home in 2025 who loves adores him for all the amazing he is! 🙏

Meet Lynnie 💔

Lynnie finally landed in her loving ABR foster home after being abandoned, all alone, in an apartment. Conditions were said to be unlivable. And Lynnie, a loving girl powered by cuddles and snuggles, was understandably shaken up. While authorities looked into the circumstances surrounding how and where she was found, Lynnie had to stay in a crowded, noisy shelter with limited interaction. That’s the way these things go when a shelter is trying to figure out if there’s an owner who might be coming for her.

But, she’s here now and all of us are grateful. Lynnie already had her vet appointment, and is certainly showing the signs of a bulldog who’s been neglected- an angry cherry eye protruding from her beautiful face, double ear infection, a ye**ty crust covering her entire body, and a nasty cough.

But don’t worry, she’s getting plenty of rest and love, plodding to different napping spots in her foster home with the movement of the sunbeams. Lynnie is currently living with a cat, and has lived with very young children before. She (obviously) needs to re-learn that she gets to potty outside where she lives, which will take patience and sensitivity. She’s been through a lot.

Goodbye to our beautiful Promise 💔

The compassionate choice was to let our girl go this morning, to be among the stars and the moon, finally free of pain. Promise was young. So young. She’s likely never known the carefree feeling of just being a silly, mischievous bulldog and naps in the sun with her sweet tummy fat with treats and good food. Every dog deserves it. So today, we freed her of her failing body which had been put to work before it was ready and a vessel for someone else’s greed.

She had the love of three amazing volunteers who brought her to Austin in two different cozy beds and one warm lap. She gave epic bulldog side eye if they stopped scratching her ears. And her beautiful vets treated her to quiet time in the cool grass outside, basking in the sunshine. We did our best Promise. And we’re sorry we couldn’t find you sooner.

Oh, Promise 💔

Where to begin…she’s had a ton of tests done and has been on this path for too long. Neglect is slowly taking her away from us, organ by organ. She has a hookworm and flea infestation. She’s too anemic, dehydrated, and starved to walk on her own. And her kidneys are failing.

Promise will never be fully healthy, at this point. So what we are humbly asking you to support is a chance at a few more tomorrows (maybe more 🤞🏼) so she doesn’t leave this world only knowing pain and suffering. And in return we, as rescuers, always promise to make compassionate and humane choices for the animals in our care.

Promise needs to remain hospitalized for another day, and we’re having an ultrasound done to make sure we are making good decisions on her behalf.

Miss Maybelle is hoping to start 2025 off with a brand new family. One that will treat her like the princess she is!

This girl is the sweetest little babe. While she is dog selective, she LOVES all humans. A doggy sibling isn’t ruled out, but she will need an easy going and mellow companion.

🚑🚨EMERGENCY FUNDS NEEDED🚨🚑

💔 Our sweet baby boy Edwin Evergreen is in the ER.

This video of tiny Edwin screaming in pain is unbearable to watch. His foster immediately sent us a message the moment he started seeming uncomfortable and we had her rush him straight to the emergency vet. ‼️

Edwin was supposed to see a vet tomorrow, but this just can't wait and our fear is that what we've suspected all along if him having hydrocephalus is true and the suffering he's in right now is because of it. He's in the best possible hands now, and we're on standby to know better how we can help him through treatment. 🙏

We will do everything in our power to give our precious Edwin Evergreen the care he needs. We have an amazing vet staff who had held our hands through many things, we believe in them and our tiny boy, but we desperately need funds as his care will be expensive though worth it. 😓

‼️HELP US SAVE HER LIFE‼️URGENT FUNDING NEEDED‼️

She was picked up as a stray by , actively dying and too weak to stand on her own. Her bloodwork is so bad, we’re not sure how she’s still alive. She is starving, but bloated. She’s terribly anemic and dehydrated. We don’t know anything else another her, except that she has zero chance of surviving if she doesn’t get out TODAY.

We have three volunteers tag teaming the journey down to to try and save her 🙏🏻 We expect her to need at least a few days and nights there. If you are able to give to help us keep saying yes to dogs that need it the most:

Meet the babies! Mama December’s crop of potatoes is growing fast!

Their fosters were surprised to find they’ve already grown into their little collars. December has one little lady and four beautiful boys. And guess what.. YOU can apply to adopt them TODAY on our website! 🎉

We’re still not positive what they’re mixed with, but they have the cutest swoosh, floofy fur. Mama lived with an unfixed Australian shepherd, but former owners also used to let her just….roam the neighborhood constantly. 🙄 Regardless, they are perfect.
