Austin Bulldog Rescue’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving and knowledgeable families for rescued English Bulldogs. We rescue bulldogs from animal shelters, other rescue groups and from owners who can no longer properly care

for their English Bulldog. Upon intake, we place each bulldog into a foster home that has been pre-approved and fully prepared to care for the specific needs of each bulldog. We provide and fund ALL health care needs for each bulldog while in our foster’s care…including medications, surgeries, vaccinations, preventatives, supplements and of course, spay and neuter. When healthy, happy and ready, each bulldog is matched with a pre-approved family and if all parties agree it is truly a perfect match, the bulldog is adopted into their furever home.

Jerry: so smol and so single. (Which is so surprising!) He’s only 9mo, loooves playing and snuggling with other dogs, and is starting to appreciate this whole socialization thing.

Jerry had been matched before, but apparently hasn’t made a good enough first impression to earn himself his very own forever family. ☹️ He can be a little nervous in new situations, but hey! THIS is why you’re adopting from a ~*foster based*~ rescue! We’ve been through it with him and can tell you what decompression looks like for him in a new home and how to make things easier for everyone.

Rupert is a true gem. After being rescued from living in a tiny crate outside in the Texas heat, he is loving his new life of leisure with his amazing foster family. He is so full of life and has all the love to give his forever family. He is kid friendly and dog friendly!!!

Rupert is heart worm positive, but that treatment is fully covered by the rescue! He will need an adopter that can commit to his treatment schedule.

⚕️❤️ Lovey Update ❤️⚕️

Our girl Lovey has been through it over the past week. One thing that we can say for certain about her is that we 100% picked the right name for her. Despite how scared she must have been and sick she's been feeling, she is truly a lovey. 💕

We had some pretty scary notes From the shelter, and while we are glad that things are not as grim as they initially seemed, Lovey was still very ill and at risk of losing her life. Not only had she come down with a horrible upper respiratory infection, which as you know can spiral quickly in a bulldog, she was also horribly anemic and had pyometra (infected uterus). 😥

Surgery for a dog with a URI whose anemic is not ideal, but there's no time to waste where pyrometra is concerned, so we just prayed and made sure a blood donor dog was on standby. 🙏

Our girl is strong, and has such a will to love and love. She pulled through surgery! 🙌

Lovey still has a ways to go. Her spay was intense so she was sent home with some strong pain medication. She's also getting strong antibiotics to knock out any trace of infection left behind as well as to help with her URI. Lots of rest and nebulizer treatments are in the schedule for this little one until her checkup next week, but we hope the best days of her life are just ahead of her!

Our little girl accumulated herself a nice vet bill and we are so appreciative for all the help in making sure we can cover those and give Lovey the life she craves. We are so thankful for the outpouring of love for our angel. ❤️

While at the moment the specific page doing this is "American Dog Rescue" as with most scams, we expect this to become a more prevalent trend preying on rescues and adopters alike and many other pages being created to carry on the work. So please, stay safe! 🙏

1️⃣ ABR will NEVER proactively reach out and message you on any social media. We will respond to messages sent to us only. If you didn't message us, the response is not from us.

2️⃣ We will never ask for payment or credit/debit card information over social media. We do not facilitate adoptions or foster via Facebook or Instagram Messenger. All of this goes through the official application process on our website.

3️⃣ We will never post or communicate about any of our dogs on any other Facebook or Instagram accounts other than our main official pages. We will never use any other name.

*🆘SENIOR LIFE AT IMMEDIATE RISK IN SHELTER🆘*

🚨He needs a reputable rescue, foster or adopter through the shelter right away or he could lose his life!! 🚨

💔💔Mario is a super senior boy that we had posted trying to find him help while he was in foster care through the shelter in San Antonio. The foster wasn't comfortable doing dog introductions as he had recently had surgery and wasn't feeling well.
For this reason we recommend a slow and calm introductions (baby gates are great for this).

🌟He is now back in the shelter and IS AT RISK OF EUTHANASIA! Mario is 12years old and deserves to be living out the rest of his life in a bed, in a home, not a kennel or crate!!!!! He is super lovable, loves all people, polite manners in the home, everything you could ask for in a perfect companion.😓

❤️ Sweet Brutish is looking for his forever home. ❤️

This boy is so much more than just a beautiful dog, he's also a very sweet and sensitive soul. He's one of those dogs who immediately loves everyone he meets without prejudice and just wants the same in return. 💕

The world hasn't always been easy or kind to Brutish. As a puppy he never really got lots of experiences outside of his own home. He had a few scary run ins where he was attacked and really hurt by larger dogs. And then ultimately he lost his home, which for such a delicate soul can truly be so hard. Yet still, here he is still trusting and so impossibly precious.

Brutish is in search of a kid/pet free home Our sensitive boy can have a bit of a startle reflex when sleeping which requires some awareness. This is not an uncommon thing to happen in dogs, or even people and we are happy to guide anyone. 👨‍🏫

We are so envious of the family that ends up with Brutish. His happy go lucky attitude is infectious and sure to brighten the gloomiest day. 🌞

*🆘URGENT RESCUE NEEDED by 9/4!🆘*

This handsome boy is with a finder who reached out to look for help for him! They can only hang on to him until 9/4 and then they will have to take him to a shelter!! 💔He needs a reputable rescue to help him before then!

🌟Here is info for the sweet boy needing help🌟:
👉He was found in Jersey Village (NW Houston). He was found running down the side of the road, they opened their car door, and he jumped right in. He LOVES people!
👉He is crate trained, potty trained, knows shake!
👉Finder said he looks relatively clean and in good shape!
👉Very polite and easy going in the home!
👉He does have some prey drive and fixation so he will likely need to be with dogs his size or bigger but we don't have any solid information on dog interactions.

😞ABR is heartbreakingly overwhelmed (as are so many) with so many dogs and requests and unfortunately cannot take him in ourselves. We are hoping to help find him a rescue that can!

Little Ham can hardly contain his excitement for the weekend...or life! Can you believe the adorableness of those little grumbles?! 💕

This guy has done amazingly at transitioning to true home life! One thing that's always been true about Ham is that he's a super affectionate cuddle bug. But now he's learning that visitors can be fun and that there's few things better than rolling around carefree in the sun. Even if foster Mom only allows 5 minutes! 😮‍💨

‼️ B Baby NEEDS A LIFE SAVER ‼️

This poor love of a girl urgently needs a rescue or a kind human to step up ASAP and save her from the overcrowded and stressful shelter. 🆘

👉 From the shelter:
Baby is an estimated 3-year-old female American Bulldog who came to our shelter after being found wandering near some train tracks with other smaller dogs.

When she arrived, she was severely infested with ticks. Seed ticks and large ticks were embedded in her ears, between her toes, around her vaginal and a**l folds, and all over her body. Fortunately, after receiving preventative treatments, she is now tick-free.

She is very sweet and even knows some commands.

💔 Guys, these shelter workers are truly trying their best to save as many lives as possible, and too many dogs like B Baby are either losing their lives or spending way too long in shelters which can be devastating for most dogs!

⚠️🚨FOSTER HOME NEEDED ASAP🚨⚠️
🆘 INJURED AND STUCK IN BOARDING 🆘

Poor boy Pierce could desperately use a break. Found with an injured leg as a stray and taken to the shelter. When no one came for him we knew we had to step in to spare his life and get him the care he needs. But we desperately need a foster home so he can rest and heal from his injury. 😓

This guy is beyond darling and sweet. Even in enough pain to make him limp miserably he's still so gentle and absolutely happy to get affectionate from all the humans he meets. Shelters are scary and stressful, so this really says something about his precious nature.

We were unsure what to expect in regards to his leg, so we placed him immediately in vet boarding. Thankfully we think his injury is soft tissue based and not anything requiring surgery at the moment. Right now what he needs most is some human affection, rest, and TLC in a home vs boarding. 💔

Truly, Pierce is the sweetest boy. He's been completely unreactive around other dogs even when in pain, he's gentle with people and is just an all around good dog who we're positive you'll adore. We'd like him to know comfort. ❤️

It’s post surgery vet recheck day for Melvin 🩺

We got good news that the tumor on Melvin’s side was removed with good margins which means our boy has some good and healthy years left. He was also neutered and had some rotten teeth removed during surgery. He has healed nicely and got a clean bill of health to be able to be adopted. 💪🏼

We are so proud of our little guy who aced his vet visit with so much more courage and has made such huge strides since being saved from a horrible fate after a lifetime of being used by a backyard breeder.

Thank you to Melvin’s foster family who have used so much love and patience with our gentle and shy boy. They’ve made Melvin feel safe and loved and it shows! ❤️‍🩹

We pulled Pierce as he was out of time in the shelter and landed there after being hit by a car💔💔. We desperately need a foster for him so he can get the TLC he needs and become his best self!

🐶Despite his circumstances, he is wiggly and so sweet! He gets around okay as you can see in the video included. Here is what he needs in a foster home:

This beautiful girl has a deadline for tomorrow as she is in the Killeen Shelter where they had 0 adoptions today and are out of space💔

🐶She is sweet and was happy to meet a volunteer and give kisses. She is scared in the kennel so she doesn't stand a chance without a rescue to grab her!! She is little, around 40lbs maybe.

THIS DOG IS VERY URGENT‼️

We wish so deeply we could help this dog but we’ve had a huge wave of medically challenging dogs and have limited local medical fosters.
We need funds and solid foster options in order to keep taking on these intense cases 😭

We want to share so a rescue might step up for this poor dog. He will need blockage surgery and possibly surgery and/or pelvis brace.

Gertie is back, and it's more devastating than you can imagine.. 😓

Last year, after over 700 days in rescue our angel Gertie got what she and everyone had dreamed of. She was adopted into a true loving and loyal home. A person just for her, who applied specifically for her, and was perfect for her in every way. Her new Mom met her and was instantly in love. Mom prepared her home with beds, toys, and all the best treats in preparation for Gertie. For a little over 300 days they lived together and adoring of each other..until Mom passed away. 💔

Gertie has lost her person, and her adopter's family has lost a beautiful mother and grandmother. A truly remarkable and miraculous woman who meant so much to so many.

This is such a hard and gut wrenching situation. Letting go of Gertie is the last thing the family wants, but Gertie is best with only select male dogs and they all have other animals that aren’t a fit. It's not a fair or safe situation for any of them. The last thing that we know Gertie's Mom would have wanted is for her to be in a stressful situation. She loved Gertie with her entire heart and soul and just like she promised us to look out for her best interest, we will reciprocate.

Gertie is back with us with the promise that we will again to everything in our power to find another loving family for her. 🙏

Please, keep this completey heartbroken family in your thoughts. So many loved ones are suffering now including our sweet Gertie. We are sending all of our love.

Let's find Gertie a new forever. It's truly the greatest gift we can give her Mom. ❤️

⚕️Lovie Update⚕️

Our sweet Lovie made her way safely to Austin yesterday and is just the most gentle and precious angel. Today will be a big and telling day. 🤞

We were relieved to find that she was alert and in good spirits upon being busted from the shelter. We consulted with our medical team and it was decided that she was safe and healthy enough to spend the night in a comfy home and come back this morning. So she headed home with one of our board members where she got a nice bath for her itchy skin, a filling dinner, lots of kisses, and slept cuddled up in a nice comfy bed for maybe the first time ever in her life. ❤️

This morning our darling girl was dropped off with the amazing team at where she will be undergoing an ultrasound and other testing so we can find out exactly what's going on and what her true future prognosis will be. We're a bit anxious, but know we will do all we can for her every step of the way.

We will have more updates soon, but could sure use the support to make sure we can cover the costs of her testing and subsequent care. 🙏

🚨🆘FOSTER NEEDED ASAP - ATX AREA ONLY🆘🚨
⚠️CRITICAL MEDICAL DOG ⚠️

This little girl is a medical mess and was going to be euthanized TODAY in the shelter if not saved. Last night in a panic to spare her that fate we sent a request to tag and save her. We JUST got word that she's still alive. We have to pick her up and rush her to the ER, but she has no foster to go to after! 😓

We are naming her Lovey, and we are taking the risk to save her because we believe that her life matters and is worth fighting for to give her a chance. We also have faith that you will help us find a place for her. 🙏

We don't have a lot of concrete details, but we know she's very weak, has an enlarged liver, abnormal lungs, may have a heart condition, could have cancer, and could potentially be hospice. Truly we won't know more until she can be seen by our vets. What we do know though is that she needs a foster who is medical savvy, willing to learn, has no upcoming travel and able to get her back and forth to vet appointments in ATX. A loving and compassionate space where she can rest and get the care she desperately needs.

A very sweet Crumpet update 🫶

She’s feeling strong enough to get up and walk around some, but still mostly sleeps. If you’ve heard the phrase “the body keeps score,” well we can imagine hers is just plain exhausted after the hard, hard life she’s lived.

But today, Crumpet finally had the energy to put her front paws on the couch and ask to be helped up. Small victories. ❤️

Oh my, we got the loveliest update on new senior girl Dixie, and what a relief!!

“Big girl’s doing so good! Finally relaxed and exploring her surroundings. Everybody loves her.”

10yo Dixie arrived at ABR last week after living in the same home her whole life with her bulldog sister. That’s a really really hard adjustment for any creature, and especially for a dog breed that thrives in predictability and routine. So we’ll just keep on loving on this gal and make sure she knows she is special and important to us.

Pixie showing us the rare and ever elusive “tired Frenchie”😮 Little Pixie is looooving life since being rescued. ❤️‍🩹 She has gained some much needed weight and started both some supplements and some doxycycline for her heartworm treatment. We are looking forward to her recheck of bloodwork to see if some of her inflammatory and liver values have improved with the better care she’s getting. 🤞🏼 Thank you Foster’s and supporters for helping us save lives like little Pixie 🧚

Bobby just got some excellent news about his health ❤️‍🩹 You'll recall that Bobby came to us as a senior abandoned Lab. His original rescuers in Laredo took him to Mexico to get some large tumors removed and they were told he was hospice… however, no biopsy had been done of the tumors to confirm the diagnosis. Once he arrived with us, we wanted a more thorough set of tests. So, bloodwork, X-rays, and an ultrasound were done. The radiologist report has now come back with the good news that NO CANCER is seen in Bobby's body at this time. 🙌🏼 Bobby is arthritic, and a senior dog, but we do not consider him "hospice" anymore. ☺️ We love what his caretaker shared about him: "He’s so sweet!!! My favorite thing about Bobby is how he loves to be in the middle of the other dogs! They’ll push right past him, sometimes I even think they’re going to knock him over! But it never bothers him, he just keeps wagging his tail and trying to keep up with them, not wanting to miss out on anything, grinning with his big ole tongue hanging out! Like a little brother wanting to keep up with the big kids 🥰" Do you love senior dogs? Consider adopting beautiful senior boy Bobby. ❤️

We consulted with our medical team and it was decided that she was safe and healthy enough to spend the night in a comfy home and come back this morning. So she headed home with one of our board members where she got a nice bath for her itchy skin, a filling dinner, lots of kisses, and slept cuddled up in a nice comfy bed for maybe the first time ever in her life. ❤️ This morning our darling girl was dropped off with the amazing team at CTVSEH where she will be undergoing and ultrasound and other testing so we can find out exactly what's going on and what her true future prognosis will be. We're a bit anxious, but know we will do all we can for her every step of the way. But given her condition, we wouldn’t believe anyone who told us she was loved and cared for. Her wounds are OLD, oozing, and crusty. You can count her vertebrae with just a quick glance. We know she landed at her most recent stop not too long ago, and are sure they were disappointed to find that she probably wasn’t going to be the money maker they’d hoped. Where once was bloody scabs is now being replaced with beautiful soft furr. Now she just needs a perfect family to spoil her for the rest of her days. 🙏 Hyacinth would make the absolute best companion for a family that wants a one and only. She absolutely adores kids and is as gentle as she can be around them. She takes her duties as nanny very seriously and will always let you know when something needs doing for her little ones. A little Bulldog ASMR for all the Bogie fans 🍉 Bogie is doing wonderfully since working and getting treatment with a specialist for immune mediated meningitis. In fact he’s done so well that his meds are being tapered and he will be able to be on an easier for the body medication longterm instead of prednisone. 🙌🏼 We are so pleased to see Bogie thriving and moving his body in a healthy and happy fashion! Now we just need to find him a loving home that is ok adopting a dog with a managed medical condition. Bogie is still able to have many good years ahead thankfully.❤️‍🩹 Bogie’s best life is one in a home that has the ability to keep his meds in check and on the healthy path he currently is on.
