Celebrating a Golden Year with GRRoM!

2024 was an incredible year for the Golden Retriever Rescue of Michigan! We rescued 100 beautiful Goldens, with 92% adopted into loving homes by year’s end. That’s a significant leap from 85% in 2023 and 80% in 2022!

While our medical expenses increased by $7,000 in 2024, we’re thrilled to share that our average cost per Golden decreased to $852.67 (compared to $927 in 2023 and $1,354 in 2022). We are proud to have supported many high-medical-need Goldens in 2024 and couldn’t do this without YOU. This remarkable improvement is thanks to growing interest in our organization, which has helped us streamline the adoption process and find amazing homes faster than ever before.

To our adoptive families, foster families, volunteers, and donors—you are the heart of GRRoM, and we are endlessly grateful for your support.

Thank you for stepping up for these incredible dogs. Here’s to continuing this meaningful work together in 2025!

Our 5 newest rescued mamas are slowly adapting and learning to overcome their many fears of everyday sounds - doorways closing, cars going by, children laughing...

Our foster families understand the patience and love it takes to help these sweet souls adapt to their new lives.

They are all in need of vaccines and spays. Their initial veterinarian visits did not turn up any problems at this
time and we are hopeful that this remains the case.

We are grateful for any donations to support these, as well as our future rescues!

🚨 Cooper & Trigger are available for adoption! 🚨

COOPER - Male Born-3/9/2019
TRIGGER - Male Born-7/20/2018

Cooper and Trigger are the most wonderful pair of goldens you will ever meet. They originally came to GRRoM as a bonded pair from a home where they could no longer be cared for and were adopted by an amazing couple who loved them dearly. Unfortunately, their new owners’ health declined, so the boys are back with their original foster family. These boys are cuddle bugs who would love to share the couch, your bed, or even the floor with you for snuggles. They love attending doggy day care and do well with other dogs (but they’re a little much for their senior doggie foster brother). Cats are an unknown. Their favorite activities include running, wrestling, snuggling, and eating. Both are trustworthy in the house and able to be home alone for a typical workday. Trigger greets everyone with a stuffed toy in his mouth and carries his human foster brother’s socks but never chews them. Trigger dives into new things headfirst with enthusiasm, while Cooper waits a bit to see what’s going on before joining the fun. They are passionate about squirrel and rabbit chasing and will need a fenced yard to ensure their safety. Both are sensitive souls who love all people. Children should be 10 or older. They are working on leash walking. Both dogs know basic commands and would be a great fit for a novice or experienced family.

🚨 Quincy is available for adoption! 🚨

Female Born-1/21/2017

Quincy is a sweetheart who is ready to share her big heart and loving personality with her forever family. In great health and full of gentle energy, she enjoys life’s simple pleasures: playing, cuddling, and her newfound passion for daily walks. Her routine is important to her, so she thrives in an environment where consistency is valued. This well-mannered girl never has accidents and always lets you know when she needs to go outside. She’s also perfectly behaved when left alone. Quincy gets along wonderfully with other dogs and finds a lot of comfort in the company of her foster family’s dog, so she’d love a doggie sibling in her new home (though it’s not mandatory). She has no known issues with cats. She’s great with kids but still has a lot of puppy-like enthusiasm, so she can get excited easily. Therefore, we recommend that children be over 10 years old. A physical fence is preferred but other forms of containment will be considered. Quincy would do well with a novice or experienced family. Quincy is an easy-going gal. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and well-mannered dog who will bring warmth and joy into your home, Quincy is ready for the job.

We need your help!

GRRoM rescued over 100 dogs in 2024!
And we anticipate rescuing the same number or more this year.
As you can imagine, our funding needs are ongoing and ever-increasing

To Our Dear GRRoM Community of Volunteers,

We’re reaching out to ask for your assistance in securing sponsorships and donations for the 2025 GRRoM Golf Event, scheduled for June 23rd at the Fountains Golf & Banquet Center in Clarkston. As our largest fundraising event of the year, the golf outing plays a critical role in supporting the financial needs of our golden retrievers. With your help, we can make this event a huge success!

Would you be willing to reach out to your network—family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, or anyone you know—to inquire about supporting GRRoM? On our website (https://www.grrom.com/events/golfing-for-goldens-2025) there is a letter with more details including more information for potential sponsors about our non-profit (501(c)3 information) as well as a Sponsorship Chart explaining the sponsorship levels and benefits.

Thank you for your willingness to consider helping us obtain sponsorships! It may surprise you to learn that your network is ready, willing and able to help!

Sincerely,

Susan Theakston & The GRRoM Fundraising Team

🎉 Lizzy & Anna are adopted! 🎉

Known as “Izzy & Nana” when they first came in, the girl’s foster family made it official and adopted these sweet girls!

Here is what they had to say:
“We have now named them Lizzy and Anna 😊
These girls are called our “Golden Girls” and are so loving and have accepted and acclimated to our lifestyle so well. They have been on a trip to Detroit over Thanksgiving to visit family and everyone enjoyed getting to know them (plenty of petting was provided) . We have enjoyed getting to know their personalities.
Lizzy is like an old soul and enjoys being outside watching all animals in the yard. Anna is full of energy and keeps us laughing all the time. They do like to be together and so glad we were able to foster to adopt these two golden girls together, because I could not see them separated.
Both girls have brought such light to our lives and we feel honored to be their human parents. We thank GRRoM for helping with this process and rescuing!!”

Congratulations Julie, Kevin, Lizzy, & Anna! Life just got a bit sweeter and definitely more Golden!

Cooper & Trigger have been surrendered back to GRRoM through no fault of their own. Sadly, their family, who adopted them in July 2024, were dealt a very tough situation with their health and knew that they would not be able to provide the love and care they wanted for these boys.

They love Cooper & Trigger and made the excruciating decision to surrender them back to GRRoM to find them the perfect forever home.

These bonded boys are back with their original foster who welcomed these boys back ❤️.

They will be hitting the adoption roster and must be adopted together. If you’re interested in adopting them, please get your adoption application in!

A true animal lover, Betty White devoted her life, fame, and fortune to advocating for our furry friends. Her birthday, January 17th holds a special place in our hearts as we pay tribute to her compassionate spirit and the positive impact she made in the world of animal welfare.

In honor of Betty White’s legacy, please make a donation to help support Goldens like Hazel and Bruce who are dealing with expensive medical conditions.

P.S. Early supporters like you inspire others to give. Thank you for being a catalyst for change!

🎉 Zana is Adopted! 🎉

Previously known as Lana, Zana was fostered to adopt by her forever family, including her brother, Chase!

They knew it was meant to be from the first moment they met and made it official less than 2 weeks into their foster journey.

Zana, at 7 months old, was surrendered over the holidays because her previous owner knew she needed more time and attention. The beautiful thing is, she will have all of that! Including a beautiful acre and a comfy window seat to call home.

Congratulations, everyone!

We wanted to share an update on Trax! This is the dog we needed an emergency placement for. He was kept as an outdoor dog for breeding. We found a wonderful foster home to bring him in and teach him about life as an indoor dog!

Here is an update from her on how he is doing:
“He’s adjusting so well. He’s seriously a perfect angel, way better behaved than my dog 😅 He’s just the sweetest most laid back guy. He does eat the green beans but prefers the smaller French cut kind haha. I’ve been mixing his kibble with the beans and some chicken breast and he’s a big fan. Gradually increasing his walks too so he’s burning some calories. He’s a big hit on walks because he likes to carry a big stuffed toy the whole time and we get quite a few smiles and comments.

Once we get the estimate from the vet and it’s approved I’ll go ahead and schedule his neuter!”

This guy will eventually end up on the adoption roster, so get those applications in and kept an eye out for this perfect angel!
