Shed happens! Unfortunately, there is no way to stop the shed, but you can get ahead of it and help keep it under control with these tips.
Some breeds shed seasonally so you'll notice that most of their shedding occurs in the spring time and the fall. In the spring time their coat is getting ready for the warmer weather so it will pitch the extra dead winter coat to make their coat lighter to keep them cooler. In the fall, their coat prepares for, you guessed it, the colder weather! This is typically when their coat bulks up a bit for winter to help keep them insulated from the cold. And pets that have double coats are more likely to shed year-round.
So what can you do to help reduce the shedding in your home?
For pets that shed often, the best tool to have is a really good brush that suits your pet's coat type. It is important to brush them REGULARLY, and how often depends entirely on their coat type and the amount of shedding occurring. It can be as often as daily, a few times a week, and sometimes weekly.
For dogs with shorter coats it's best to use something with softer bristles since they don't have as much coat to get through before you touch skin. A rubber curry brush is typically a good solution for the short haired dogs. With this brush you can brush with the direction of the coat or in small circles to help remove loose and dead hair and help distribute the natural oils that your pet's skin produces to help protect their skin and coat.
For pets with longer coats you'll need a brush that can reach down into the coat to get down into the inner layers of the fur. Slicker brushes are a great tool to help remove dead coat and remove tangles for this type of coat. Finishing your brushing with a comb can help remove even more dead coat. With these brushes and combs you'll want to brush in the same direction as the hair growth.
That said, the MOST effective method to combat shedding is to remove dead hair with a combination of regular brushing, combing

Q and A with Ambri
Q: How many fur babies do you have?
A: A German Shepherd named Oz. My family raises German Shepherds so I have one as a service aminal. I used to have horses and have worked in horse residue but just train them now
Q: How long have you been grooming?
A: Since the beginiing of the year. I’m the rookie of the company. I love it!! I have experience training dogs and I learned to cut people hair from my Mom so it wasnt a stretch to go from people to dogs.
Q: Interesting fact or Hobby
A: I love to dance!! I usually dance country western swing dance. I love going out dancing and in Phoenix there is a huge swing dance community. I’ve competed a little but mostly I do it for fun.
Q: Favorite Dog Breed
A: German Sheps of course! They are smart, low maintenance and very understanding dogs.
Q: How big is your family
A: I have 10 siblings and I and the 2nd oldest. I have a sort of adopted sister who and she is the eldest. We were/are all home schooled. My oldest sibling is 30 and my youngest is 7. I love my family. They are awesome.
Q: Are you originally from Arizona?
A: Yes. I grew up in Maricopa when it was just farms and my siblings and I raised and rescued horses. We would also rehab them adopt them out so that way we could afford to bring in more horses in need. Our Mom taught us to hustle so we would get out there and work to afford the horses care.
Q: Favorite Place to Vacation?
A: I go to Malibu every year with my family to an event at Pepperdine College. It’s so much fun and a great opportunity to learn. I would prefer to never visit the same place twice. There is so much of the world to see. I love to be near water and I love going to the lakes here.

Thank you ladies for sharing your adorable pictures of the fur kiddos after their grooming this month. This was a close race. In the end, Princess took first place by just a few votes. I'd like to give special thanks to Missus for the Happy Thanksgiving wishes and to Princess for showing us your tail. 😉
True or False: When your fur kiddo wears a jacket it decreases their need to be groomed because the jacket protects the hair.
