Southern Comforts Animal Rescue - TX We are a 501c(3) Texas Rescue based out of Sante Fe Texas. We rescue dogs from overcrowded South Texas Shelters and from the streets.

We rescue pets off the streets and from shelters and get them physically and mentally healthy and then find them loving forever homes--- we do this with donations and grants from our supporters. We are a foster home based rescue and have no central facility. We adopt to wonderful Local homes and we post our dogs in the Northeast and Northwest for increased exposure and chance for additional grea

t homes To inquire about one of our dogs email [email protected]

We try hard and to help each one find the right match for their family and their other pets. The adoption and transport is really an remarkable experience to have and we are so grateful for the love and open arms that are awaiting our precious rescues. You can also visit SOUTHERN COMFORTS ANIMAL RESCUE website to learn more about this wonderful North South collaboration helpful tips and ways you can help us help the dogs. TRANSPORT SUCCESS❣️

Sugar Plum will now have the SWEET life. Thank you Flight Angel Kristin C for helping this lil plum and Lee Selman of Southern Comforts Animal Rescue.

STORY: Sugar Plum belonged to one family her whole life and due to age they gave her up. She will now have a new home! ADOPTED.

Southern Comforts Southern Comforts Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3), Texas-based animal rescue organization dedicated to rescuing dogs from local kill shelters. Once out of the shelter they place animals into loving, pre-screened foster homes.

They work closely with a number of local shelters to facilitate adoptions. It is a shared goal to get as many dogs as possible out of the shelters and into safe and loving foster or forever homes.

Southern Comforts Animal Rescue has a network of foster homes and volunteers in the North.

Their northern friends have graciously offered their assistance in the form of foster homes
and screening potential adopters. With their help we can transport numerous animals out of local shelters and into loving homes in the northern states.

TOGETHER, with One Heart, we EMBRACE our cause and are determined to make a difference.
Rescuing animals. One flight at a time.
❤️💛💙

Another great update. Hunter is a Southern Comforts boy and then his mom saw a photo of Stella after we rescued her from the shelter. She had puppies in the shelter and her babies got upper respiratory infections and left the shelter with medical fosters, leaving poor Stella confused and sad. It breaks our heart when these poor moms are left behind Hunters mom adopted her and she now has a great life in Washington. Here she is in the shelter with her babies, napping with Hunter and posing for a holiday photo !We are so happy and grateful for the wonderful life these pups have❤️❤️. Thanks to their great mom 👍🎄

We love updates and got this adorable one tonight. Bentley is a rescue we took after he ate a piece of toy which caused an obstruction - his family asked the vet to euthanize him as they could not or want to have the surgery done. She called us to help and we did . He had the surgery and did great! He was posted for some time but finally his family found him and applied. They had a heeler before and they knew and love the breed - they adore him !

This is his first Christmas with his new family and look at him checking out his stocking !!!!

Are the Dogs House-Trained?

One of the most common questions we’re asked is, “Is this dog house-trained?” While many of the dogs in our care do exceptionally well in their foster homes, it’s important to understand that transitioning to a new home can be overwhelming for any dog, no matter how well-trained they appear. This means accidents can happen.

Here’s why:
• Stress and Adjustment: A new home brings unfamiliar sights, smells, and routines, which can be confusing for a dog.
• New Routines: Dogs thrive on consistency. If your routine differs from their foster home, it might take time for them to adapt.
• Communication Gaps: Your dog doesn’t yet know how to signal their needs to you in their new environment.

What You Can Do:
1. Set a Routine: Take your dog out at regular intervals—first thing in the morning, after meals, and before bed. Consistency helps them learn quickly.
2. Supervise Initially: Keep an eye on your dog, especially during the first few weeks, to catch signs that they need to go out (circling, sniffing, or whining).
3. Use Positive Reinforcement: Praise and reward your dog when they go outside. This builds a strong association with the desired behavior.
4. Be Patient: Accidents are normal during the adjustment period. Avoid punishment—it can create fear and confusion. Instead, calmly clean up and move on.
5. Crate Training (if appropriate): Many dogs feel secure in a crate, and it can help reinforce good habits when done properly.

Remember, house-training is a partnership between you and your new dog. With patience, consistency, and a little extra love, most dogs quickly learn the rules of their new home!

If you’re considering adopting, we encourage you to focus on building a bond with your new furry friend rather than worrying too much about their house-training status—they’ll get there with your guidance.

Happy training!

Rescue is hard and truly a labor of love - our goal is to find great homes for our rescues but there are always a few who have a hard time overcoming their past and trusting . This is Brown Mattie - we rescued her 17 years ago from a gas station . We only caught her because she was hungry and we had a beefstick!! She always kept a wide berth and did not really care much for other dogs. She was safe here with us and we loved this cranky girl. She has been very healthy her whole life but the last year her hips started giving her trouble. We gave her meds but finally it was not enough -
We knew it was time and she was tired. On the way to the vet she had a bacon egg and cheese biscuit and even ate the hashbrowns - she even let us hug her- that was very rare. We hope she is now running fast and free - like in her younger days.
Peace and love Brown Mattie ❤️

Update: Adopted! Photo in the comments below!

Toby has captured all of our hearts. He's the sweetest boy, loves to play ball and loves being out with volunteers. Many walk by Toby, his appearance it not what most adopters are looking for. Toby is very thin, you can see his ribcage, count each bone. He's been in the shelter for two weeks now, I'm sure some of the reason he's so thin is the stress of living in a kennel without a consistent break. Will you give Toby that break? Take him on a doggie date? Offer him a foster home or a forever home?

Toby
4 yrs, only 45 lbs he should way at least 55-60
