Celine - Adoptable

Through no fault of her own, Celine is back on the dating scene and looking for a more committed relationship.

This dear little girl loves to play toys and other small dogs and will happily sing for you when it’s her turn for attention or meal time. At just under 4 months old, she is still working on housetraining and all other puppy manners.

She has had a thorough health check and is up to date with her first and second core vaccinations.
Her new family will be responsible for the third core vaccines and the rabies vaccination.
You'll need to schedule spay surgery for your puppy before she is 7 months old.
We kindly ask that you enroll your puppy in training classes.

Our application can be found here:

We’ve had some busy weeks at the Manor and our volunteers have been working many, many hours screening applications and arranging visits to find the perfect matches for our Misfits. We've witnessed some incredible adoptions and there are more to come. But we've also had some challenges so we want to write about what to expect when you adopt a Misfit dog.

It’s a bit unusual for Misfit Manor Dog Rescue to have so many puppies but what we’re about to share really applies to all of our dogs. When you apply for a Misfit, especially a puppy, you have to be prepared for adjustment time. Many of our dogs come from difficult, and sometimes traumatic circumstances, even the very young ones. Some arrive at our foster homes stressed, confused and sometimes very afraid. As a rescue who assist dogs with special needs, a great number are sick and need medical help. They have accidents in the house. They might hide. They may chew on things. They can take days, even weeks to decompress, feel safe and healthy. But over time, with patience, love and consistency, our Misfits relax and adjust to foster life and become their best selves.

As much as we prepare them for the day they will be adopted, they can regress. They may be afraid or confused. They may become fearful, have accidents in the house or express unexpected behaviors. But again, just like with our fosters, patience, kindness and gentle guidance can help these dogs become their best selves once more. While assessing each application we go over this in detail and when preparing our adoption contract email we include a personalized letter going over what to expect as well as a link to a free online course focused on rescue dogs : https://www.canineprinciples.com/course/dog-rescuers-guide

Adopting a Misfit is a life commitment…and we want our Misfits to go to safe, loving homes that will provide them with the love, guidance and understanding that they deserve. So please, before you fill out an application, make sure that you share our commitment to helping these dogs live their best lives in your home. Please be prepared to help them adjust successfully to their new life with you. It will likely take longer than a few hours or a day. In fact, it may take a few weeks or even several months. But over this time, as you guide, work with and most importantly, love your new dog, you’ll discover a deep bond will form as they give you their trust and love in return. And that’s what makes adopting a Misfit so incredible and enriching to your life. And that's why we do what we do.

Self Study - This is a free course designed to raise awareness and knowledge on the understanding of all dogs. It’s designed for anyone that is considering bringing a new dog into their home and their family.

7. Jasper loves to snuggle under the covers… and prefers to stay warm there. However when he is up… he thinks the toy box should be empty and then played with!!!!! Adoptable.

Sandy - Adoptable

Sweet Sandy is eagerly waiting to find her forever home. This shy girl takes a little time to warm up to new people, she’s no pushover for just anyone! She prefers to observe and assess before sharing her heart with strangers, but once she feels comfortable with you, she adores snuggling up beside you and revels in gentle pats. While she’s not a fan of being cradled in your arms, at 9 lbs, that’s probably for the best.

Sandy delights in playing with other dogs her size, though she can feel a bit intimidated by larger pups. She walks beautifully on a leash and is the perfect travel companion in the car. This precious girl is sure she’ll melt in the rain, but rest assured, she’s in excellent health and making great strides with her housetraining. She consistently nails the p*e pad and now even goes to the door when nature calls.

Sandy is searching for a serene home without small children, as their energy might be a bit too much for her. Her new family will need to be patient, allowing her the time to adjust and flourish into the sweet, gentle pup she truly is.

Jolt - Adoptable

Jolt, the adorable little pup, joined the Manor with his siblings just a few months ago, weighing in at a mere 2 lbs! He was a bit anemic and low on energy, but with loads of love and nutritious food, this charming little Jumping Bean has blossomed into the sweetest and most playful companion, now tipping the scales at nearly 5 lbs. His impressive jumping skills could easily make a grasshopper envious! True to puppy form, Jolt can go from being calm to bouncing around in no time at all. He loves to be close to his humans, often snuggling right next to you (or even on top!) when he’s not busy hopping and frolicking with his new furry sibling.

Jolt adores his toys and sometimes needs a little nudge to remember to tidy them up; after all, how else will he earn his allowance? At bedtime, he likes to unwind with a yummy chew on his Yak bone before cuddling up beside you for a cozy night’s sleep. His favorite hobby? Food, of course! Well, any food except for fruits and vegetables. While you're preparing his meals, he will entertain you with his delightful jumping bean antics! He also enjoys his kibbles served in a treat ball or puzzle toy, and he’s a pro at cleaning his licky mat so you don’t even have to worry about running it through the dishwasher—he’s happy to clean that too if you need!

Jolt would thrive in a loving home where someone is around most of the time, and he’d love a playful furry friend to share adventures with (ideally one that's about his size!). He might take a little while to warm up to new folks and experiences, but once he does, his friendliness and snuggly nature will certainly win you over. As a curious and smart puppy, he’s got a knack for using his voice to alert you to any little changes in his surroundings—whether it's a new ornament, a misplaced bag, or even just his reflection in the window! He’s been practicing basic tricks and is quite good; his foster mom believes he has tons of potential for some fancy tricks!

When it comes to house training, he’s doing well with the p*e pads and will let you know when he’s ready to go outside, though he’s still working on being consistent—who wouldn’t struggle a little with being so small in the cold? As a young pup, Jolt does experience some separation anxiety when left alone, but his foster family is dedicated to helping him with that, and they’ve noticed some improvements.

If you’re on the lookout for a cuddly and loyal little friend to share your days and nights with, Jolt could be the perfect match for you!

15. Joni might not look big enough to get her own toys from the toybox but she is definitely smart enough. With a running start and the cutest little jump she snags a toy every time. Applications Closed.

16. Handsome Jordan loves having his picture taken. His slight smile may be that's he's got a secret. Applications Closed.

17. Do you want to build a snowman? Come on, Let's go play! Kye would love to if you are game! Medical Hold.

18. Now that her spay stitches are out, Minnie is trying to figure out who to chase first. The squirrels or the birds. Medical Hold.

Ben - Rainbow Bridge

Talking about euthanasia can be difficult, and it's often misunderstood in some communities. It can be wrongly seen as a failure or lack of compassion, leading even the most caring animal lovers to judge quickly when they hear about a pet being euthanized. Because of this, many rescues don't share stories of pets that end in euthanasia, even though these cases often highlight the lengths that rescuers go to for animals in need. This means stories, like that of Ben often remain untold.

Sometimes, our foster dog friendships are brief when a dog is quickly adopted, but often, as with Ben, we nurture these relationships for weeks or even months, growing to love them as if they were our own. Although over his time with us, in the care of his foster family, medical team and trainers, Ben had healed physically from the terrible neglect that he suffered before coming into our care, his emotional stability, unpredictability and increased threat to himself and others sadly did not.

Saying goodbye is one of the hardest decisions anyone can face and one to be taken very seriously. This choice comes after carefully evaluating the pet's quality of life over time. When making a decision about behavior euthanasia, everything concerning the animal's health and happiness is put into question. Are they in physical or emotional pain? How severe is their behavior? What are their triggers? Can they enjoy life in society in a safe manner? It’s a heart wrenching decision that's filled with deep sadness, even when it's the necessary thing to do. Ben's foster family loved him very much. In this sad time, take comfort in knowing that Ben knew kindness, a gentle touch and had them by his side until the end.

Jasper - Adoptable

Jasper is a dear little love-bug who’s ready to find his perfect cuddle mates. He’s a fun boy who loves to play with other small dogs and knows his way around a stuffie. Embracing his Mexican heritage he’s not that keen on our cold winters and will sidle up to any warm body - canine or human - he’s not that particular. You’ll need to be prepared for some serious adoration from this little bundle. He’s all about the love and likes nothing better than to curl up on the couch and help you monitor your snack intake. This pint sized model knows he looks good in anything so bring on the puffer jacket when it’s walk time. While he wasn’t housetrained when he arrived, he’s made huge progress being kept on a schedule and hasn’t had an accident in ages! He’s good with cats most of the time, but when the zoomies kick in he’ll let ‘er rip.
Jasper is a healthy, happy boy who will benefit from a positive training course once adopted.

You can apply for Jasper here:

Revi – Adoptable
The transformation of this once sick little dog who came into our care is truly remarkable. When we first met Revi, he was emaciated, had barely any hair on his body, and was battling anemia. Over the weeks spent in loving foster care, with nourishing food and much-needed medical attention, he has blossomed into a taco supreme!
Revi's house training is coming along swimmingly, and he's a social butterfly - he loves people and gets along great with other dogs and even cats. This little Mexican likes to burrito in his bed and can be a bit of a bed hog, but who isn't? Revi's a smart cookie and loves puzzle games and learning new tricks. Revi has received two core vaccinations, been dewormed, and is microchipped. We believe, due to his initial fragile health, it’s best for him to be neutered between the ages of 10-12 months
Oh, and one more thing - his new family will have to complete his vaccinations, get him neutered, and enroll him in puppy training classes. No biggie.

Our Story

Misfit Manor Dog Rescue Society (MMDRS) is an all breed, all age dog rescue primarily focused on assisting special needs dogs in Nova Scotia. Our Board of Directors and volunteers are comprised of people who share a passion for the often overlooked rescue cases. MMDRS is committed to remaining small in terms of intake in order to fully understand the needs of each individual dog, and thoroughly assess, evaluate and rehabilitate those in care. With a focus on special needs cases, the assessment process is vital to the successful placement of Misfit Manor dogs in forever homes that have completed a multistage application and screening process.

Misfit Manor Dog Rescue Society recognizes that when rescues work together they can achieve more substantial goals and help more animals. We are committed to working with other reputable rescues whenever possible to improve the situation of all dogs in need.

We do not have a physical location. Please message us for our mailing address.
