HOW TO BRUSH YOUR DOGS TEETH

Before you start:
Before you introduce a toothbrush or toothpaste you have to get your dog used to you touching their mouth. This may take a few weeks so start practicing as soon as you can.

* Have treats handy
* Gently rub your dogs cheeks, then treat
* Softly touch their mouth, then treat
* Lift your dogs lip at the side, then treat
* Rub your finger on your dogs teeth, then treat
* Repeat these steps until your dog is comfortable with you touching their mouth and teeth
* Practice a few times a day for a week

Introducing toothpaste:
Ask your vet to recommend a dog toothpaste or speak to someone at your local pet shop.

* Pop a tiny spot onto your finger and let your dog lick it off
* Now pop a small blob onto your finger and use your other hand to gently open your dogs mouth
* Rub the toothpaste along the gum line where gums meet teeth
* Repeat this routine everyday until your dog is happy and comfortable with it

Toothbrush:
Some dogs will just not let you use a brush of any kind so look for a finger brush instead. They are soft rubbery finger covers with small bristles.

* Pop a tiny spot of the toothpaste onto the brush and let your dog lick it off
* Now pop a small blob onto the brush and use your other hand to gently open your dogs mouth
* Start by rubbing the brush along the gum line then around their teeth, like you brush your own!

GUIDE ON HOW TO CLEAN YOUR DOG'S EARS

1. Soak a cotton ball or pad in a ear cleaner (suggested by your vet)

2. Squeeze the cleaner in your dog's ear and use the cotton ball to hold the ear closed

3. Massage the base of the ear to allow liquid to move through the ear

4. The cotton pad will soak up excess liquid and collect wax and debris

5. Wipe the visible surface of the ear and the entrance to the ear canal

6. Allow your dog to shake out any minor remaining debris

Does your dog struggle with cracked paw pads?
Let us introduce you to a DIY PAW BALM🐾

Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoon olive, sunflower or sweet almond oil
- 2 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon shea butter
- 4 teaspoon beeswax

Method:
1. Melt the oils, shea butter and beeswax in a small pot over low heat and stir continuously
2. Pour mixture into small containers
3. Let them cool until hard. Then cap and label
4. Apply the balm as a preventative treatment or to help soften dry paw pads or noses

🍪PEANUT BUTTER & BANANA "BARKIES" RECIPE

🍪Ingredients:
1 3/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats (divided)
1/2 banana (cut into 4 chunks)
1/4 cup peanut butter (no artificial sweeteners)
1 egg

🍪Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease
3. Place 1 & half cups oats in blender. Process until ground to a flour texture. Pour into a medium-sized mixing bowl
4. Place a banana, peanut butter and egg in blender
5. Process until well combined, scrape down bowl and process some more, if needed
6. Pour mixture into bowl with oat flour. Add remaining 1/4 cup of (unground) oats
7. Stir together
8. Scoop 1 tablespoon portions and roll into balls (or make whatever size your dog prefers)
9. Flatten with the tines of a fork in a criss-cross pattern (or whatever shape you want)
10. Bake for about 15 minutes
11. Let cool on baking sheet
12. Store in air-tight container for a few days or in refrigerator for longer
