Phoenix Animal Care & Treatment
P.A.C.T(PHOENIX ANIMAL CARE & TREATMENT) is a non-profit organisation striving to provide a better quality of life for homeless/neglected/abused animals in Phoenix and the surrounding areas.

They strive to
• Raise funds to sterilize homeless animals in Phoenix and the surrounding areas
• Educate the community on responsible animal care.
• Find forever homes/foster homes for stray babies wherever possible.
• Feed homeless animals, e.g. feral colonies.
• Provide medical treatment to strays where necessary.
They are constantly saving animals with the help of Ashburne Vet

Today’s focus is the importance of vaccinations.
Vaccines, like immunizations for humans, are one of the most effective ways to protect your pet's health. They protect people against dangerous diseases like parvo, distemper, and rabies, which are extremely infectious and highly contagious. Depending on their health problems and where you live, the schedule and shots they need can differ, so speak to your veterinarian about what you should expect. Most puppies should get their first set of shots around the age of six weeks, and then every three weeks until they are sixteen weeks old. Every 1 to 3 years, adult dogs should be vaccinated again.

Why do puppies and kittens require a series of vaccinations?
Since their immune systems have not yet evolved, young animals are especially vulnerable to infectious disease. They are covered by antibodies in their mother's milk, but the immunity is temporary, and there may be holes in protection as the milk antibodies fade and their immune system matures. Young animals are particularly susceptible to infectious disease because their immune systems have not yet developed. They are protected by antibodies in their mother's milk, but the immunity is only temporary, and as the milk antibodies weaken and their immune system matures, there may be gaps in protection.

DURBAN HAS COME OUT ON TOP AS THE GREENEST CITY IN THE WORLD

Its official! Durban is the greenest city in the world as reported by the first Husqvarna Urban Green Space Index.

HUGSI Index is a digital innovation initiative which utilizes computer vision and deep learning techniques on satellite images to generate insights about the size,

proportion, distribution, and health of green space in urban areas.

Durban came out on top against 94 cities in the world followed by Rio De Janero in the second place and Austin took the third place.

The Index recognised Durban for its sustainability and greening initiatives that are aimed at safeguarding green spaces by ensuring there are not jeopardise by urbanization.

Such initiatives are implemented and managed by the City’s Parks Leisure and Cemeteries Department which makes Durban more caring and liveable by rolling out climate-resilience strategies and curating open green space.

Deputy Head of Parks, Leisure and Cemeteries, Sibusiso Mkhwanazi said the recognition was as a result of the City’s greening strategy and policy which directs planting of 80% indigenous trees and 20 % exotic plants.

“The strategy is setting aside huge natural and green areas known as Dmoss as part of spatial planning. It informs us on what to plant, how to plant and where to plant more trees. Furthermore, as part of creating an urban forest the city has a programme where we plant trees to rehabilitate areas that have been eroded. This effort has then contributed to us being the greenest city,” said Mkhwanazi.

Durban is a recipient of two Arbor City Awards from the National Department of Agriculture.
