Rocko is still up for adoption. This cute happy little fellow is full of fun, love and pure joy. He would do well in any home, he’s comfortable around other dogs, cats, birds and children … always ready for a cuddle, game or treat. Sterilised and vaccinated. Home checks and adoption fee apply.

Broken promises. My worst! Don’t make me a promise and then walk away - I’m so sick of the those empty promises- rather leave me happy with my bicycle , don’t promise me a car, leave me in my wellies, don’t promise me jimmy choos, I’m okay in my polyester, don’t need your cashmere! What you do each time you make an empty promise is build an expectation - and that’s unsettling. Don’t come to my centre and promise huge monthly support and move on without giving it another thought, they will still eat without you. Don’t promise to adopt and go and buy another animal- in the wake of all these empty promises are a series of highs and then stomach lurching lows when you don’t follow through. They’re harder each time to climb out of - and this is an emotional way of life. Often those exciting promises are what keep me going. The disappointing waiting is what knocks me down. Thank you to those who put their money where their mouths are, month after month- behind the scenes - you’re the backbone of Tranquility and I appreciate you more than you will ever know. You’re my daily motivation and the full tummies and happy faces I get to look after everyday. ❤️🥰💔

Some of our birds enjoy the rain. Others do NOT! While Noshie made the most of it the Woolies went on a silent protest at the top of the driveway. It was deafening!!!!

Chomp is home!!! He’s back with his herd!! Thank you everyone who made it possible!!! Thank you Christine, Louisa, Helen, Alex, Michelle, Jutta, Linda - and a huge thank you to a very special lady who came close to giving up with the loading - he was at his very worst - but then she pushed on and brought in an angel to help. After about two hours he was finally in and on his way!!! Thanks for not giving up Linzi!!!! Photos will follow - we’re letting him relax and settle in with his mates and start his next chapter of the good life.

The patio parrots. From headless African greys to the clown faced Amazons and the sheer beauty of Allie, Coco and his funny ways and then Floyd who is such a character. Never a dull moment.

The pool team has arrived. These guys are quite pecky when it comes to pool care, always sticking their necks out to let us know when conditions are not up to their standard.

Just to put minds at rest. Kiko does this as her party trick - when she’s in the mood - her “play dead” move. Usually though it’s after we’ve played a bit and she doesn’t mind chilling for a bit. This time I’d just put the grandillas and litchis out so she was worried she’d miss out.

Aviary time. Doing the water bowls is always fun - everyone has their place, whether it’s in the water bowl, hanging from the roof or off me - it’s all entertaining.

Thank you Emma for lifting my spirits today. You have no idea how much I needed to meet you - you were a tonic. Sometimes when we’re running on empty, someone is sent to just top up the spiritual tank. Thank you 🙏🏼
We’ve started a BackaBuddy campaign to get Chomp back to the rest of the herd. They’re family to him so if you can, please consider donating towards his transport. We have to transport him carefully from Underberg to the Coast in Port Edward. The cost is beyond our means but we need to get him home. 🙏🏼 ://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/lets-get-chomp-home

We’re running out of time and options to try and get Chomp from Underberg to his new foster home in Port Edward, with the rest of the herd. Can anyone assist in any way??? Please? 🙏🏼

Dipping day and Maya made the most of it - she wasn’t that keen on getting out of the tub!! I enjoyed the break while letting her languish in the cool water.

Granadillas are a firm favourite in the aviary so I’m really grateful to have them growing organically in the garden. #rescuebirds #africangreys #conures #lorikeet
Nothing like a quick run on the beach with dark moody skies - just what we all needed. #dogdaze #rescuedogs #timetobreathe
Today was the perfect day to catch our breath and go to the beach …. And perfect it was. #rescuedogs #beachdaze #dogdaze
Lady will use anything placed conveniently for a good back scratch. Thanks @kristi_harveyy for the audio - I’ve had my giggles for the day. #itchytzu #shihtzu #shihtzuwithanitch #rescuedogs
Some beach time because the weather really got to us. There was no escaping the heat except in the sea. We needed this! #vitaminsea #dogdaze #beachtime #dogsoftranquility #rescuedogs
Division of Tom Ro Haven for Equines and Children: Tom Ro is based in the Cape and is ably run by Gillian and Stephanie McCulloch - they rescue equines in need and work with children from underprivileged areas. Here is Johannesburg we work with equines, and most other domesticated animals. We started in 2007 with the rescue of one horse and from there it grew. We soon realised the huge need for a place for dogs, cats, birds, sheep, goats, pigs etc...a place they could call home, and where there is no time limit imposed on them. Although we are a no-kill shelter, we believe in quality of life and when there is an absence of that quality we will make the call and end any needless suffering.
The animals do not live in kennels or cages, although some of the birds are in a large aviary during the day and brought in to their sleeping cages at night, depending on the weather. The dogs live in the house where they can be observed, house trained and assessed for the best possible match for their individual personalities. It helps us to get to know them well and from there, find a suitable match in the rehoming process.
No animal leaves our premises without being sterilised first, unless they are kittens or puppies or for any extreme circumstance. We charge a R650 adoption fee and we do home checks where necessary (often the adopter is someone known to us and we know the home situation).
We welcome volunteers to the centre and in fact are extremely grateful for the help they offer over weekends and public holidays. Volunteers help with feeding schedules, grooming the animals and sometimes even just coming to play with them and spend time in their company.
We are very careful about the food we give our animals, because of their sometimes not-ideal start in life, we put them onto vet recommended food, never giving supermarket brands, as they need the help with their joints and their coats and general well-being. We do not let an animal out for an adoption until we are satisfied with their overall condition.
Visitors don’t leave here in tears because of seeing sad animal faces staring at them from behind cage or kennel enclosures. They’re happy and loved here with us and the only next best thing is a permanent home along the same lines. They love visitors but are quite happy to get back to normal life after they have left. They are played with and exercised on a daily basis and the happy way of life helps to heal old wounds, giving them a better chance of total rehabilitation before they embark on a new life with a new loving home.
