Now, sugar-free candy is actually more dangerous than chocolate, but the only reason I put it at number two is that youโre more likely to buy real Easter chocolate than sugar-free stuff.
But still, you need to be careful.
Sugar-free candy and sweets are only really dangerous if they contain xylitol, a sugar substitute thatโs actually pretty good and safe for us (itโs a natural sweetener) but extremely toxic to dogs.
It causes a rapid drop in blood sugar and potential liver failure, so you really need to watch out.
If youโre eating a low-carb, zero-carb, or low-calorie diet this Easter, be extra cautious with sweets like sugar-free marshmallows, sour candy, sugar-free pudding, or frozen yogurt.
If you know youโll have these foods around this Easter, make sure your dog canโt get to them.
The problem is that xylitol acts fastโsigns of poisoning can appear within 30 minutes.
What to do if your dog eats xylitol:
This is a medical emergency. Call your vet immediately and get your dog to the clinic as fast as possible.
Do not wait for symptoms to appearโxylitol poisoning can turn fatal in just a few hours. If caught early, vets can give IV fluids, monitor blood sugar, and provide life-saving care

It wouldnโt be Easter without Hot Cross Buns!
Similar to Christmas Fruit Cake, Hot Cross Buns contain raisins, which is what makes them dangerous for dogs.
Hot Cross Buns are sweet rolls made with raisins or currants and marked with a cross on top. They taste absolutely divine, and if youโre someone who likes Panettone or Christmas Fruit Cake, then youโll absolutely love Hot Cross Buns (if you donโt love them already!).
Raisins (just like grapes) are very dangerous to dogs and are considered toxic. They can cause kidney failure, and itโs not really clear how much is enough to be dangerous.
The scariest part? Some dogs get sick from just a couple of raisins, while others can eat more without immediate symptoms.
Sometimes, there are no signs at all at first, so the best approach is to never share these fruit cakes with dogs and keep all treats with raisins away from them (this includes granola, energy bars, and some types of cookies).
What to do if your dog eats raisins or grapes: Watch out for symptoms like vomiting, lethargy, and loss of appetite.
Try to figure out how much your dog ate.
Call your vet just in caseโsymptoms may not appear for up to 48 hours, and that can be really scary.

Reminder to keep ๐ช๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ out of your pets reach over the holiday season.
Theobromine, a chemical known as an โalkaloidโ is poisonous to dogs, cats & rabbits and they are unable to metabolize theobromine effectively.
If they eat chocolate, the theobromine can remain in their bloodstreams for days and they may experience fast heart rate, severe diarrhea, epileptic seizures, heart attacks, internal bleeding and in some cases even death
If your pet has snapped up your favourite chocolates, please call your vet. They can calculate how much of the toxins your pet actually consumed compared to their body weight and the cocoa content of the chocolate - the darker the chocolate, the more toxic it is likely to be.
If your pet manages to sneak your chocky treats, please call your Vet immediately for advice. They may ask you to bring your pet in or to monitor your pet for any signs of poisoning and advise you accordingly.
Remember to keep all chocolate products shut away and out of your petโs reach
