Our next 4th year had an incredible experience in Namibia. Here is what she had to say about her adventure!
“I went to Namibia and shadowed 2 different vets. With the one we did pregnancy tests on cows per re**um and then a lot of TB tests on cattle to be exported.
With the second group of we caught Elephants in Namibia that had to be moved/exported to Angola due to the drought. I was allowed to observe the whole process, which included:
- Darting the elephants out of a helicopter
- Picking them up in the bushes and moving them to the transport trucks
- Giving the required medications and taking the measurements.
- Moving the elephants into the wake-up crates and waking them up.
- moving them from the wake up crates into the trucks. What a once in a lifetime experience!

Our second years spent the majority of their first term practicals learning spinal mobilisations and accessory joint testing. This is added to their 1st year foundation of palpation and passive range of motion to enable them to do the steps of a full orthopaedic evaluation. We are so lucky to have such beautiful and cooperative animals to work with ❤️ Knysna Animal Welfare Society Africa Hoofprint Foundation NPC K-Rides

Big, medium small, our students treat them all! The clinical block at the college allows for our 3rd and 4th year students to get real life hands on experience that develops their skills - from full assessments, to effective treatment, hydrotherapy and core programs - we aim to expose them to as much variety as possible.

Following the completion of their osteology section in their anatomy classes, our first years had a demonstration of the bony landmark palpation. It is very different locating the bony structures on the skeleton, as opposed to on a live horse! It is important for our student to be able to identify these bony landmarks so they can orientate themselves correctly and locate all the structures that we assess and work with.

Our 3rd years had a very fun and colourful taping practical today! The focus was on working with tape, learning to apply it with the correct amount of stretch, and discussing what the aim of an application would be. Some of the dogs looked a bit bemused about what was going on, and I can’t say I blame them! **none of the tape applied was left on

Today marked a very special day in Equine- Librium college’s history. We had our first official graduation as our 4th year students graduated with a BSc degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy. This is the only degree of its kind in South Africa and is currently the only route that enables automatic registration with the South African Veterinary Council as a Veterinary Physiotherapist.
Today was the culmination of over 10 years of hard work, perseverance and faith. We are all so proud to be a part of this incredible institution. Congratulations to our 2022 graduates, we wish you the very best in your future career as Veterinary Physiotherapists. We look forward to seeing what you will achieve! 🎓🎓🎓🎓

Our 4th years did the traditional walk down to the big 900 year old yellowwood tree in the valley adjacent to the college. Every 4th year group has been down to the tree to mark the end of their college journey, where they leave a word or phrase (written on a rock) that is significant to their time at college.
