It is a sad reality at the Bloemfontein SPCA to have to deal with individuals who simply have no respect for animals.

How can a human be so cruel to a poor dog? How do you look yourself in the mirror and be normal knowing that you have taken a blade and cut the dogs tail, and ears off.

A case of animal cruelty has been opened against the suspect, and he will be appearing in court next week.

This is only one of many guy wrenching situations we deal with on a daily basis. We will not rest until justice prevails!

Love at first sight!

Mrs Smith fell in love with our little Whippet girl the same day she came out of her stray period and immediately put in an adoption application for her!

While doing the home inspection I could see that she loves this little girl already so much that she would be living a more comfortable life than most people I know 😂

When fetching her after the approval, Mrs Smith could not stop talking of how beautiful this pup is. Truly love at first sight ❤️🐶❤️

Successful day in court.

In October 2024, I attended to a complaint of animal cruelty in Rouxville.

The complaint was about an Africanus dog that was kept in poor and horrible conditions. The dog was found chained inside a cage full of faeces, covered in external parasites. No food and water were provided for the dog in the cage.

Due to the horrendous conditions that the poor dog was kept in, charges were laid against the owner.

On the 13th of January 2025, the owner pleaded guilty in the Rouxville magistrate court, and he was sentenced to a fine of R3 000 or 6 months imprisonment, the sentence to be suspended for a period of 5 years on the condition that the accused is not found guilty of the same offence committed during the period of suspension.

I would like to thank the court of Rouxville, SAPS, the investigating officer, State Prosecutor, and magistrate.

The sentence may seem low, but it is within the prescribed law and the accused now has a criminal record.

This is a victory for animals!

The Bloemfontein SPCA team has been extremely busy attending to multiple complaints of sick and injured animals around Mangaung.

Among these, a feral kitten was recently rescued by the Bloemfontein SPCA team after it was reported by a concerned member of the public in the CBD. During the investigation, the feral kitten was found to have severe sniffles, a common upper respiratory tract infection , commonly known as cat flu, which is extremely contagious.

Common signs of sniffles are: running nose, discharge from the eyes, sneezing, fever, and loss of appetite.

The feral kitten was safely removed and was taken to a vetenarian, where the decision was made to humanely relief this poor kitten from suffering.

The BFN SPCA had been part of a joint task team along with the Mangaung Metro Municipality and the South African Police Service, that had a clean up operation where people had been living under Central Park in the sewer system.

These people had used their dogs to rob the public and then sell the items. This is no condition to have any animal live in and it is dreadful to use these poor animals as tools in their criminal acts.

The Bloemfontein SPCA has been busy removing these poor horses that have been living in very poor circumstances.

Living in these harsh circumstances you can be sure that allot of care, medical and otherwise, for them.

Its gut wrenching working with these horses and experiencing the affect their circumstances have had on them.

Should you not care passionately for animals and are not able to care for them, dont get them - just dont get them.

The journey for these horses will be long and hard. If you want to get involved - please do so financially.
