Help Us Secure Brakpan SPCA – Let’s Build a Safe Haven Together!

The Brakpan SPCA has always been a beacon of hope and safety for animals in need. But right now, we’re facing a significant challenge. Recent heartbreaking events, including the theft of our beloved goats, have made it painfully clear: our current precast walling is no longer providing the security we need.

We need your help to build a strong, secure border wall that will protect our premises and ensure the safety of the animals in our care.

Here’s the Plan:

☆ We need someone trustworthy to help us get started with a proper site inspection. This includes measuring the area and advising us on the best way forward to ensure this project is done right the first time.

☆ Salvage the existing precast wall where possible and repurpose it to build more kennels for our animals. This way, the project benefits both security and capacity.

☆ Fundraising to bring this dream to life and ensure we can serve our community for years to come.

This is a mammoth task, but with the community’s help, it’s achievable!

Here’s how you can help:

1. Site Inspection Experts: We need someone skilled and reliable to assess the property, take measurements, and guide us with detailed plans.

2. Commitment: We’ve faced setbacks before, with people offering to help but never returning. We need someone who believes in this project as much as we do.

3. Support for Fundraising: Once the plans are in place, we’ll need donations, sponsors, and support our creative fundraising ideas to move forward.

We’re committed to serving the animals and our community for many years, but we need the right foundations to continue this vital work.

If you can help, please contact our manager at [email protected] or call 083 702 4197 during office hours.

Let’s join forces and make this happen for the animals who depend on us. Together, we can turn this vision into reality!

Every helping hand makes a difference – thank you!

UPDATE: A Case has been opened with the SAPS. We searched all over today and no signs of our precious souls anywhere. Our hearts are shattered, as we are well aware of the fate these animals have, without having to read the comments.

Our wall still has a gaping hole that we have tried to repair for now until we can have it fully restored.

Once again, Secure Tech Security has stepped in and sent someone from their Gaurding Division to come and keep our grounds safe tonight while we are at a higher risk. Thank you.

‼️ALERT‼️

OUR RESIDENT GOATS HAVE BEEN STOLEN!

HENNIE A STERILISED MALE, WHITE AND BROWN AND KIARA, A FEMALE WHITE AND BROWN ALONG WITH A STRAY FEMALE WHO WAS RECENTLY BROUGHT TO OUR POUND.

During morning rounds at the pound, we noticed our beautiful goats were not greeting us as usual. To our absolute horror, we found that our wall had been broken, and our resident goats were gone.

We are searching the area as I post this, our hearts are broken...

If you see the following babies wandering around the area, please alert us urgently.

We are also in need to fix this wall and to find a solution to keep our animals safer.

Please contact our manager on 083 702 4197 if you can assist us with the wall.

🌿 Wildlife Awareness: A Heartwarming Rescue Story 🌿

While we don’t encourage handling wildlife, we know life can surprise us with extraordinary encounters. If you ever find yourself face-to-face with a wild animal, here’s how you can make a positive difference:

✨ Quick Guidelines for Wildlife Encounters:
📸 Take a photo right away for identification.
📞 Contact the SPCA immediately.
🙅‍♂️ Never touch or handle wild animals with your bare hands.
🤫 Reduce noise, light, and human presence—stress can be life-threatening for these creatures. Create a quiet, dark space until help arrives.

🐾 Meet Thato, one of our most extraordinary rescues for 2025!
This little guy found himself lost, drenched in the rain, and without his mom—a situation where survival would’ve been nearly impossible. Thankfully, the Brakpan SPCA stepped in right on time to save him.

Now, Thato enjoys cuddles with his soft teddy bear and “milkies” on demand, while he is being prepared for the wild world he belongs to. One day, Thato will spread his wings and become a professional Batman! 🦇

🛑 A Friendly Reminder: Handling wildlife should always be left to professionals with the right training, resources, and care.

The SPCA is often associated with dogs and cats, but did you know we care for all creatures in need? From wildlife to goldfish, our doors are always open. We are so happy to have the incredible team at Johannesburg Wildlife Vet, whose expertise ensures these amazing animals get a second chance at life.

💚 Let’s celebrate the beauty and diversity of all creatures and remember to respect the wild world around us!

A Plea to Support Our Inspectors with Cellphones

As we embark on a new year, we’re determined to ensure our team has everything they need to help animals in need. One critical tool for our inspectors is a cellphone—a lifeline that keeps them connected, responsive, and ready to act in emergencies.

Our inspectors and trainee inspectors spend most of their time on the road, responding to calls and aiding animals in distress. Without a reliable cellphone, staying reachable becomes a challenge, potentially delaying the assistance animals desperately need.

To do their work effectively, we need cellphones that can handle the demanding nature of their job. These phones must have enough storage for taking and storing large volumes of photos, capacity for frequent WhatsApp communication, and the reliability to stay functional during critical moments.

With this in mind, we humbly reach out to you, our compassionate supporters, to help us provide this essential tool. We need two cellphones to equip our inspectors and ensure they can continue their life-saving work effectively.

If you or someone you know would be willing to sponsor a phone or contribute toward this vital need, it would make a world of difference—not just for our team, but for the animals we serve every day.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. Together, we can ensure our team starts the year off right and stays ready to protect those who need us most.

For more details on how to assist, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

🎆 Keep Your Pets Safe This New Year's Eve! 🎆

As we prepare to welcome the new year, it's important to remember that fireworks, while beautiful, can be a source of extreme stress for our beloved pets. Here are simple steps you can take to ensure their safety and comfort during this festive evening:

🐾 Steps to Help Your Pets Cope:

1️⃣ Update Identification: Ensure your pet is microchipped and wearing an ID tag. You can also register them on YapScan using this link: https://link.yapscan.com/BrakpanSPCA
2️⃣ Visit Your Veterinarian: Pick up calming medication tailored to your pet's needs – don't leave this to the last minute!
3️⃣ Exercise and Stimulate: Take your dog for a long walk or engage your pet in playtime to tire them out before the evening.
4️⃣ Create a Safe Space: Prepare a comfortable, well-ventilated indoor area where your pet can retreat. This is especially important for pets who don’t usually sleep indoors.
5️⃣ Feed Them Well: A hearty meal may help your pet relax and sleep, but don’t worry if anxious pets stick to their routine.
6️⃣ Try a Pet Wrap: Wraps or snug clothing can help reduce anxiety, but introduce them gradually if your pet isn’t used to wearing them.
7️⃣ Drown Out Noise: Play music or turn on the TV to help mask the sound of fireworks.
8️⃣ Offer Love and Reassurance: Stay close to your pet to comfort them. They’ll appreciate your presence more than anything.

🏠 If You’re Going Out:

Being at home with your pets is the best way to keep them safe. However, if you must go out, plan ahead:

• Arrange for a trusted pet sitter.

• Take them to a family member or friend who will be home.

• Your pet wants you to return home safely! Please be cautious and responsible on the roads to ensure you get back to your furry best friend.

• Carry a card that says you have pets waiting at home for you and to make contact with family.
