2025 in Retrospect – Basjan Boerboels

Looking back at 2025, it was without a doubt one of the most challenging breeding years we have faced.
Although we produced a small number of very high-quality puppies that we are incredibly excited about, this year required us to make some very tough decisions in order to continue doing what we love — the right way.

Due to a number of factors, we bred far fewer litters than planned. As a result, we had to place puppies and even adult dogs that we would not normally have considered selling. These decisions were never easy, but they were necessary.

We also experienced the unexpected loss of some of our beloved dogs — dogs we had big plans and dreams for. Losing them was heartbreaking and reminded us that breeding is not always sunshine and roses, no matter how it may appear from the outside.

This year showed us that ethical breeding comes with very difficult moments, and if it were not done for the right reasons, many breeders would have walked away. We chose not to.

Despite the challenges, we have grown tremendously — as a kennel and as a family — through the lessons learned and the achievements accomplished in 2025.
Sometimes reflection is necessary in order to learn, reset, and grow.

As we look ahead to 2026, we are truly excited about what lies ahead. While 2025 may not have delivered the quantity we hoped for, it strengthened our commitment to quality. We doubled down on improving our breeding stock, and with a bit of help from above, we are very excited about the matings already done and those planned for the year to come.

Our goal has never been numbers — but exceptional quality, achieved responsibly, ethically, and in accordance with the breed standard. Breeding is not an exact science, but we will continue to do everything in our power to produce the best Boerboels we can.

We would also like to tip our hats to all breeders who choose quality over quantity and who work tirelessly to improve this magnificent breed — the Boerboel.
