So excited about the new feeder at the Sweet Treats colony in Dunkeld. 🍩🎂🍰🧁The cats have had many birds snacking on their food at this site, so glad to know it will be protected now. A huge thank you to G&K Feral Feeder Manufacturers for such a high-quality and beautiful feeder.
A glimpse into Friday afternoon feeding. While the wet food does not look appealing to humans, the cats enjoy their treat of chicken meatloaf which is watered down for hydration. 🐱❤️
I ensure all the ferals I care for are fed at least every second day. Sure, there are some days where I might not feel like heading out on multiple feeds. But the peace of mind that comes with knowing they had something to eat makes it all worth it.

Beautiful Bear was abandoned in a residential complex in Sandown some time ago. He joined the resident feral colony in order to survive. Whilst trapping him for sterrie, I realized he's not very feral at all, he's more scared and confused. He once knew love and a home.
I took him home last night trying to figure what to do with him and I found him this morning curled up on my spare bed. He hides under the bed when I come in but will come out for food.
I unfortunately cannot keep him, I'm in over my head. Bear and I need help!
I'm desperately looking for someone who has experience and the willingness to take him on. He will need patience and love and kindness that I cannot offer him right now.
Please please share this post? Please help me find him somewhere to go or else I will have to return him to his colony in the next day or 2.

The life of a feral cat is worse than most humans can imagine.
To illustrate it from a feral cat's point of view, let's say "Elly" is a female feral cat, and here follows her story:
Elly: "I am a feral cat. My mother might have been a feral, a stray, or even a house cat who gave birth to me, my sister, and my two brothers. We live in a gutter away from humans. My siblings and I are unknown to humans and are very scared of them. My mother took care of us for 8 weeks until we had to care for ourselves. My mother fell pregnant again and had to take care of her newborn kittens. There were some mice where we lived, and we ate birds. But we struggled to catch them because we were so small. We barely survived. When I was 5 months old, me and my sister were made pregnant for the first time by our brothers. Our kittens were weak due to inbreeding. Soon, our kittens became somewhat independent, and I became pregnant repeatedly. Sometimes, I was made pregnant by my kittens of 5 months and older. I am 3 years old and have given birth to over 40 kittens. I have so much pain now. The place where we live does not have mice anymore; we must survive on birds. I am hungry and sick. Since none of us are vaccinated against the common cat viruses, we have an outbreak of Feline immunodeficiency Virus, Herpes Virus, and Calici Virus. These are terrible viruses. Our colony has so much inbreeding, and some cats have disabilities. My tongue and eyes are so sore, and I struggle to breathe due to these viruses. We are constantly itchy and scratching due to the ticks and fleas. I itch abundantly and I cannot stop scratching, but I don't always have the energy to do so. We struggle to find food in dustbins, and seek anything to give us energy for the day and to fill our stomachs for a while… something to make us feel better. My sister was hit by a car while trying to find something to eat. I am so cold at night and when it rains. I am suffering. I am so skinny. Imagine if a human with a good heart would help us with some food and a better life without viruses and the pain of giving birth to kittens again and again…. "
They deserve as much help as humans can give them.
Wow wow wow - JazzyCat called for help and one kind hearted friend certainly answered. A whopping 33kg of food! With temperatures dropping rapidly, the cats are burning more calories to stay warm - thereby eating more. This was so needed. This boy does the rounds and has fathered many kittens in the area. He will no longer aggressively fight for territory - making him susceptible to wounds, infection, and disease. He will also be free of roaming many kilometers to look for a mate, making him less likely to be hit by a car in this traffic-heavy area.

JazzyCat has successfully fostered a feral kitten for the first time. 🐱🤍
The management of 'Company X' asked if Prego (born at the back of a Portuguese restaurant) could be placed up for adoption. JazzyCat does not usually foster but out of concern for Prego's future and a lack of other options, took him in.
The first picture is from night 1. He had squeezed himself under a chest of drawers out of fear.
This boy has progressed beautifully and is now a playful little purrito. 🌯
He will never have to live outside through cold winters, putting himself in danger to find a female to mate with, humans with bad intentions, territorial fights, rain, or hunger.
Soft beds, love, warmth, toys, access to medical care if needed, and wet food await! Welcome to the good life, Prego. 😽
Subtle is a very shy and feral boy who has only been spotted about 5 times since feeding began at this site. With the new feeding station it is guaranteed he will have regular meals.

Sacha’s Feral Cat Colony
In January 2019, I had my son’s birthday party at Jozi X. Jozi X is an Adventure party venue with wide open spaces and loads of activities. The perfect place for a feral colony to make it their home. Open grounds, loads of hiding places and left-over food from the parties.
While I was there, I noticed these magnificent cats. My heart went out to them. I contacted Jozi X and asked if I could help feed them. One thing led to another and now I am there 100% care giver.
I created a feeding and sleeping area for them. I feed them daily. I have also done a fundraiser and had 15 cats sterilised.

However, this is an ongoing project. Cats can breed from 6 months old and have between 3 – 4 litters a year. Even though we have had 15 cats neutered there are already another two female cats pregnant and about 10 more that need to be done. And those are the ones we know of. Jozi X is a large place and it is difficult to know exactly how many there are.
I also feed the cats. I am using about 4 packs of 10kg cat food a month.
I am not an NPO. I am just me trying to look after these beautiful animals.
I need to raise funds for more sterilisations and food.
I have made arrangements with Animal Allies. They will come and trap, neuter, vaccinate and release for R450 per cat.
