What a great idea, let's get together to help make our little village look great 🧹

Every year, members of our community come together to give our park a little TLC. We pick up litter, and prune bushes and trees. The more hands, the more impact we make. If you have any of the following tools, bring them along: Rakes, secateurs, and braai tongs for picking up litter. We'll be offering tea and treats after the clean up as a 'thank you' - just bring along your own mug.

Investigating seal health and behaviour

Sea Search is on the front line of seal research - and grateful for the partnership of western cape wildlife responders and vets .Will keep you posted on results - but please be patient as is not an overnight activity but a long and methodical process which we chip away at day by day ..

This was the animal from the incident at
muizenberg beach Sunday 25 th May - which we necropsid after hrs and late into Monday night with False Bay Veterinary Clinic. The post mortem summary below- but please don’t leave a comment it can only add to the mis informatio - if necessary or if you have info , you may email [email protected]

The seal was nutrionally healthy, weighing 16 kgs and with a 13 mm fat layer. Close examination of the neck area revealed no significant damage to the neck or evidence of blood restriction to the head - ie the seal did not die from strangulation. Most likely cause of death was a blunt trauma to the head , with clear and significant bruising to skull and brain haemorrhage. More specifically, severe sub dural brain haemorrhage. Post mortem was conducted by Sea Search and Dr Luca Mendes (False Bay Vet) with the authority from DFFE, SPCA and City of Cape Town. All necessary samples were taken for ongoing investigations into Seal Heath and disease . As with previous cases , please report all seal bites to the authorities and seek medical assistance immediately
