Luna had a great training walk and ended her day with a fieldtrip to play fetch and practice recall.
Social awareness
Luna did very well today as we worked on having strangers pass her while creating a safe environment for her.
Walking with another dog.
Luna had to walk with another dog she prefers walking in front but was still able to walk without pulling no matter the position.
Helping Luna cope when she is over threshold to still remain in control of her emotions. It does not mean we do not allow her to feel them it simply means we support her as she feel them and stay within a responsive behaviour instead of reactive.
Walking at the Garden Centre.
Luna being a fearful reactive dog did really well passing strangers.
Social time!
This was a big deal for Luna adding another dog to play with. She ended off more confident with a play bow.
Luna and farm animals
Luna is fearful of other animals but was able to regulate herself when she was given some reassurance.
Recall training
Recall training is not just about teaching your dog to stay with you it is also about allowing your dog to have some freedom. I like to look at recall training as off lead time or a long lead with the added “benefit” of using it as training time and not the other way around. Dogs need time just to be dogs training cannot always come first so we find ways of still implementing it without it feeling like a restriction.
Play time!
Luna’s play is improving so well.
“Social distancing”
It is important to work at a distance Luna is comfortable with so that she is still given the challenge of having someone she does not know in her space but without her feeling like she needs to react to protect herself.
Confidence in public places
Luna is a reactive dog who have on occasion grabbed people, lunged and barks at people and other dogs. Here we are working on her social skills with me assessing what her safe distance is as this will differ from dog to dog.
Recall training
Giving Dex time to do something fun but at the same time he is learning to check in with us all the time even while he has freedom.
Agility
Agility is a great way to help dogs build confidence, it is helpful for anxious and fearful reactive dogs. A great way to mentally and physically stimulate them as well.
Social skills
Continuing building on Dex’s social skills helping build his confidence in public.
Systematic desensitisation
Helping Dex through systematic desensitisation get over his fear of strangers. Working in a safe space reinforcing calm behaviour.
Dexter having the best winter holiday. Training walks, learning some more tricks and having a blast with the treat ball.
Dexter having fun and learning tricks
Dexter signaling there are people approching and then shaking off the stress. Such a good boy.
Working with Dexter in a public place. Teaching him that it is oky for people to walk pass the car or get near us. Instead of getting stressed he needs to lay down and watch them. He went from panting and shaking it off to being calm and even play with the treats.
Some recap on Richies training. Wait at the door and gate is very hard for him as he is used to getting what he wants and not having to wait or work for it. This activity helped him a lot with his impulse control.
