โผ๏ธ URGENT APPEAL โผ๏ธ. Our shelter is right next to Bloekombos , a township.
Let's talk about animal welfare in townships. Understanding. Not judging.
Seeing animals in difficult conditions is incredibly distressing, and I can understand that it can evoke strong emotions , sometimes leading to anger directed at their owners.
I've also heard the question, "Why do poor people own dogs if they can't take care of them ?" This is a really important question, and the answer is more complex and compassionate than it might seem at first glance.
Many of the dogs you see in townships are not acquired in the traditional sense. They are often strays - abandoned, starving, and in terrible condition - that township residents, out of sheer kindness and compassion, have taken in. Imagine finding a helpless, emaciated dog on the street. If left there,it faces a grim fate, targeted for abuse, attacks by other dogs, or a slow painful death from starvation.
People see these animals suffering, and despite their own profound struggles with poverty, they open their humble homes and hearts, offering them the only shelter, safety, and scraps of food they can afford
Poverty is a harsh reality in our townships.
Families struggle daily to feed themselves.
Expecting them to consistently provide high quality pet food or regular vet care, is simply unrealistic.
These are not malicious owners, they are often people doing their best in incredibly challenging circumstances.
Sometimes an animal is the only companion or form of security a family has, despite their limited resources.
Instead of judgement, let's cultivate empathy. These animals are just as deserving of care and compassion as any other. And the owners often love their animals deeply, even if they lack the means to provide ideal conditions.
For them , their only hope is to bring the dog to the shelter. At times to surrender, but mostly to obtain veterinary help.
We cannot show them away , and vet bills keep rising.
Any help we give , is accompanied by an agreement to sterilise, and we urge them to spread the word about the importance of sterilisation.
We educate about deworming and vaccinations, and get flooded with requests
We help with food for the ones that got sterilized.
So, what can you do? How can you truly help?
Instead of anger or questioning their right to save a life, channel your energy into constructive solutions. Every small act of kindness can make a huge difference.
Let's be part of the solution. By understanding the root causes of these challenges - including the compassionate acts of taking in strays - we can work together to bring real relief to both the animals and the people who care for them. Our goal should be to uplift and empower, not condemn.
Kindly donate and become part of their upliftment.
We have vet bills to be paid.
We need kennels, blankets , Nexguard, dewormers, feeding and water bowls.
We need help with transport to vets and mass sterilization days.
If you can help in any way , please WhatsApp 0724622664.
Thank you

Imagine Animal Dreams is an animal rescue center situated in Joostenbergvlakte, just outside Cape Town. Our Mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned, abused and stray dogs and cats.
We are a Non-Profit Organisation committed to providing quality of life for the animals in our care and to helping cats and dogs in local communities. Imagine Animal Dreams is a safe haven run by the founder, Cecilia Jacobs, it is a place where abused, abandoned and stray pets can live in harmony. A place where they get a second chance at life, Cecilia and her staff will do anything in their power to place each of the pets in a new loving forever home.
Ideally, we would like our dogs and cats to be suitably homed for life and cared for by responsible owners. While they remain at our shelter, we strive to provide an environment where our animals are protected, well cared for and loved.
Our aim is to sterilize and to eliminate cruelty to animals, whether arising from ignorance, neglect or deliberate cruelty and to alleviate suffering and promote well-being.
These goals come at a huge financial cost each month and we rely entirely on the generosity and goodwill of the animal-loving public for financial support.

Brief Organisation History
As a young girl Cecilia always had rescue in her heart, but her journey started when she moved to a property and found a very abused Rottweiler pup. She agreed to rent the property on condition that she may keep the pup, she nurtured her and called her Sasha. Sasha's story helped others see how caring and kind Cecilia was to animals and so people started bringing her strays and abused dogs.
We now have 70+ dogs and 20+ cats in our care.
