Meet Captain Feathers, our mascot! Captain Feathers flew in to join us at the Century City - Smart City. Smart Choice. Winter Night Market on Friday, 26 July, this friendly face is here to make your visits even more memorable!
We understand that heavy rain and flooding can be challenging for many in our province, and our thoughts are with those affected. Despite the difficulties, some birds see heavy rain as an opportunity. Flooded fields provide new territory for ducks, allowing them to thrive with fewer predators. Additionally, a wet season brings an abundance of insect larvae, providing plenty of food for our feathered friends.
Just a reminder, all our parks and Intaka Island are open during regular hours for visitors.
Happy #InternationalBiodiversityDay!
Thanks to our Intaka Island senior Ranger, Robin Flusk, for capturing this video of our water mongoose and its young—a perfect example of how Intaka Island supports a diverse range of species.

Our inaugural Frog Hike at Intaka Island took place on 20 March 2024 and was a huge success with 40 frog enthusiasts who joined us on this very special expedition.
We owe a huge thank you to Blouvlei Committee member, Stuard Hall, who connected us with Jessica Myburgh, a passionate nature lover and “generalist” as she calls herself. Jessica has a broad knowledge on all things frog and impressed our guests with interesting facts about the species we found.
