A custom Gapedi 2000 x 500 x 700 mm high Tank in 12 mm thick shine polished glass with 4 mm thick (very strong) toughened top sliders, lots of tubing/electrical access holes and the top bracing much lower than usual.
It's nice to see a custom built Gapedi Tank in my local PnP
Gielie's 2500 liter Gapedi Tank at Seesig Motors in Mossel Bay is home to some beautiful Monster Fish now.
Thanks for the video update Gielie.

My new team of Aqua-scapers... π
Gielie Slabbert (Seesig Motors Mossel Bay... if you looking for a great deal) has now completed cladding the hood & stand for his 2400 liter Gapedi Tank and transferred some of his large fish across from his 3 meter Gapedi.
Bernard van Zyl (who provided this video) has done a good job of scaping the tank in such a way that the central housing for the filter outlets and returns is well hidden. Bernard also supplied additional fish (those freshwater stingrays look amazing). He is also going to add lots of Purigen to the filters to clear up some of the tannin from the wood in the water.
Hopefully we will receive a nice video from Gielie, taken at night, with the lights on soon.
Brilliant job guys... you take an empty vessel and turn it into a masterpiece.
This is an 1800 x 600 x 660 mm high tank on a steel stand which has been cladded. The tank/steel stand was built by Northern Aquatics...
The glass is in excellent condition.
The fish alone Xtra Large Parrots, Clown Loaches, Silver Dollars and others are worth R4-5k conservatively on their own.
Tank comes with a nice quad T5 light unit,
two 300 w Eheim heaters (they are nearly R1000 each these days),
an internal cannister filter,
all the decor/substrate etc (another R1000 at least) and glass covers.
The replacement cost of tank, stand and plywood cladding only is R14k conservatively.
Reserve price on all the above is a paltry R7500.00 (snooze you lose)
Highest bid in next 10 days will secure. (Whatsapp 0788000928)
Will consider splitting up and selling fish (all of them together) & equipment separately.
The FX 6 has been sold.
A QUICK GUIDE TO DRILLING HOLES THROUGH GLASS/CERAMIC/ STONE.
Have you ever thought of drilling a hole through glass for any reason? It is a simple process and nothing to be nervous about.
1. Buy a good glass diamond dust coated drill bit the correct size for your project (see pic in comments below). I prefer using a rechargeable drill to drive the bit, but any drill that you are able to electronically control the speed that the chuck rotates will do.
2. Use the bit to drill a template (hole through polystyrene or 3 mm acrylic) that you can tape to the surface of the glass to act as a guide for the bit to drill the first mm or so of your actual hole accurately. You can remove the guide/template once you have a good start and the bit cannot slip anymore.
3. VERY IMPORTANT: You cannot drill though toughened/hardened glass... it will shatter. Test a piece first if you can. Toughened glass is usually well marked.
4. Lubricate the blade/drill bit with water every time it starts drying out. This is not essential, but your bits will last longer.
5. Keeping the speed of your drill around 500 rpm or less will preserve the drill bit. Sometimes you get a lousy bit that drills one or two holes, other times you get a bit that is still going strong after 50 holes.
6. I 'wiggle' the drill around to get the bit to bite better and go faster. This could end up badly if you overdo it... Despite what it looks like, I am applying very little pressure/weight to the drill. Rather do your first few holes slowly with the drill held upright perfectly square to the surface and allow the drill & bit to do the work.
To give you confidence I can honestly say that I have never caused one piece of glass to break while drilling thousands of holes over the past 12 years.
7. Drill from both sides of the glass if you are able (use your template to line it up) to ensure that you do not have chips flying off at the exit. If you are unable to drill from both sides, keep track of your depth and
