Our Story
Vanessa and Wayne decided on a major lifestyle change in 2010, when they packed up and moved from the suburbs to a farm in Klein Dassenberg. The kids were out the house and the next challenge beckoned. The family has always had a huge love for animals of all shapes and sizes, and the shortage of foster homes and rehabilitation centres for these animals remains dire in South Africa. In 2011, with their newly acquired space, Vanessa and Wayne decided that they would start taking in animals who were lost, abandoned, or unwanted. Sunrise Animal Rescue was born out of a need. It is a place for animals that no-one else wants or can handle, and who would otherwise face euthanasia or further suffering. Our dogs, cats, birds, horses, rabbits, and pigs have come to us from the streets, shelters, other rescue groups and individuals. Many are adoptable, and some are not. For those who are not, Sunrise Animal Rescue is a safe haven for them to live out their days in peace. Sterilisation is extremely important at Sunrise Animal Rescue. All animals who come to Sunrise Farm, leave sterilised. When animals find their forever home, we ensure that they leave having been sterilised, or have the promise from adopters that they will have them sterilised at their local vet. Sunrise Animal Rescue have many good natured adoptable dogs available. We welcome the help of other legitimate rescues to find great homes for them and we're always looking for adopters. Please have a look in our albums for adoptable animals, and contact us via Facebook or email us at [email protected] for more information.
