Carbohydrates are required for energy, healthy intestines, and reproduction. Even though there is no minimum requirement, a minimum glucose requirement is necessary to supply energy to critical organs like the brain. In addition, carbohydrates form the base of other nutrients, generate heat in the body, and some carbohydrates can be converted into fat.

Fiber, a type of carbohydrate, helps promote a healthy gut. Dietary fiber is composed of soluble and insoluble fibers. Soluble fiber retains water and makes the f***s softer. Many soluble fibers are fermentable, which can be used by normal gut bacteria as an energy source. They produce short-chain fatty acids that can be used in intestinal cells as an energy source (prebiotics). Insoluble fiber increases f***l bulk but cannot absorb water so it doesn’t soften f***s.

According to Dr. Erin Hecht at Harvard University, dogs do feel and express emotions but using human words and causes are not the best way to describe them. This carries the risk of missing important signals that more accurately explain dogs’ feelings and needs.

𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞: Dogs don’t feel love the same way humans do but still form strong bonds with their favourite people due to the presence of oxytocin.

𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐫: Dogs have same hormones responsible for the stress response in humans, suggesting dogs feel fear and anxiety in the same way humans do, except not for the same things.

𝐒𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐱𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲, 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Dogs can pick up and mimic human emotions so if their humans feel sad or depressed, they will too. However, they can also feel this way due to their environment.

𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: Dogs might feel fear and emotions similar to jealousy but they won’t dwell on it. Jealousy relates to your dog’s instinct to protect resources and cause them to shift behaviour. This doesn’t mean their feelings are hurt but is more of a learned behaviour.

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝, “𝐈𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐠 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥?”
Here’s the breakdown on some dogs’ odd behaviour!

𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐥-𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠: Usually normal, much like babies grabbing their toes, but if they prefer chasing tail over going for a walk or eating, it’s a problem. Check in with your vet.

𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐜𝐡-𝐬𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠: Dogs like sniffing each other’s behinds, getting a lot of information from other dogs by doing that, and they probably get the same information by sniffing people too. If it’s bothersome, try obedience training.

𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: Normal behaviour for some dogs after going to the bathroom, especially if their stool is loose. But if it happens often, it could be impacted a**l glands or from having a tapeworm. Consult your vet for treatment.

𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠: Male dogs commonly do this but some females too. It could relieve stress or just feel good. If they do it with people, it could be to show dominance. Talk to a trainer or vet for behaviour tips.

When transitioning your dog to Nutriwoof Dog Food, it's important to do so gradually over 7 days. Here's the plan:

🐾Days 1-2: Mix 3/4 of the current food with 1/4 Nutriwoof.
🐾Days 3-4: Serve a 50/50 mix of current food and Nutriwoof.
🐾Days 5-6: Mix 3/4 Nutriwoof with 1/4 of the previous food.
🐾Day 7: Serve only Nutriwoof.

During the initial transition period, monitor your pet's reactions to a new food, paying attention to changes in behaviour, appetite, energy, and GI issues. Slow the transition down and consult your vet if necessary.

Dry food and Treats: Keep the food in its original packaging to retain freshness and protect it from contaminants. Transfer it to an airtight container, ensuring it’s sealed tightly to prevent exposure to air, moisture, and pests. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain its nutritional quality and prevent spoilage.

Canned food: Store unopened cans in cool, dry place. Once opened, store in the fridge to retain moisture, minimize air exposure and reduce odour transfer, using a plastic or silicone pet food lid designed to fit on top of the can. Transfer any unused portion to an airtight container, refrigerate, and use within 3-5 days for optimal freshness.

GENERAL TIPS
Check expiry dates regularly and use old stock first. Ensure containers are clean and dry before refilling them with fresh food. Always use clean scoops and bowls to avoid contamination.

There are several behavioral, medical, and environmental reason for dogs to lick excessively.

𝘽𝙀𝙃𝘼𝙑𝙄𝙊𝙍𝘼𝙇
Anxiety or stress: dogs might lick to self-soothe, similar to humans biting their nails. This can be due to separation anxiety, environmental changes, or other stressors.
Boredom: Without stimulation, a dog may resort to licking to pass the time.
Habit: Sometimes licking just becomes a habit that persists even after the initial cause has been addressed.

𝙈𝙀𝘿𝙄𝘾𝘼𝙇
Allergies to food, pollen, or other environmental factors can lead to itchy skin that they try to soothe by licking.
