During lockdown one of my hounds my now new running buddy Cosmo had a bit of a behaviour change. She had always been a bit of a tenacious beast but it got worse over the 30 day level 5 lockdown...and I also never had the best recall anyway. I first noticed it when we were allowed to leave the house for excersise from 6am to 9am and she just went nuts everytime we left the yard! Just lunging at all other dogs...then after deep level 5 lockdown many dogs ended up on leash in many areas that had previously been areas most odgs walked off leash. Another issue as when she came upon a leashes dog she wouldn't leave it alone. Which prompted me to walk her mostly on leash and having alot of anxiety when going out. Which in itself is a bit of a vicuoise circle as on leash walking makes your dog more protective so she didn't get any better on leash. So now when I run with her I make sure I can't see any other dogs and if we near I do try let her smell them but it doesn't always go well. I soon will be getting her. A muzzle a cage muzzle but I don't want that to be the only way she can go out...ao bloody sad. So lockdown has not only affected all of us but our canine family as well. πŸ˜” Then of course you have a lot of judgy people out there who actually have no understanding or patience with you or your dog. So lockdown has also brought out the worst in alot of people. Pitted neighbour against neighbour and made small minded people even more small minded. People have been encouraged to snitch on people around you...mountain runs and walks are no longer solitary past times. People have been pushed out into nature by the lack of parks for kids to play in, no movies, not alot of gatherings (unless outdoors these days). No place to hide weekdays or wkends although there are less out in the week. But with home schooling and parents having to work from home these people with there families and there dogs are all over the mountain...and as much as I love the fact that more people are enjoying nature. The quiet places are no longer quiet...almost every area is a noisy, busy place. There is no place to hide anymore. Life during the pandemic has created more than just issues with health and the economy... I don't think there is a facet of our lives that is not affected. And I can imagine there are a million people out there like me that have the hugest anxiety over all this craziness...honestly it's a nightmare. And the only place I can hide is in my own house. So very sad. And do me a favor don't compare my way of seeing the world through this time with anyone else... I don't need you to tell me how many have no food, no jobs and how many have lost friends and family to the virus. But we all have our own stories our own anxieties that we dealing with. Your struggle doesn't make mine obsolete. πŸ˜“πŸ˜ πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜ (Just food for thought for now)

Trail etiquette for people with dogs on the mnt-

(not nessesary to embellish this post with your own ideas of trail etiquette with dogs as this post comes from an experience that we just had on the trail and we are trying to get this info out to make it easier on others in the same position).

1. When walking down a mnt with a dog that has never been on the mnt, be confident. If you are not confident your dog will not be.
2. Give way (safely) to people going faster than you with or without dogs.
3. If there is a dog on leash not as friendly as your dog. Please listen and be understanding of the situation and don't make it worse.

The first information is most important! If you not confident your dog will not be!! 🐾🐾

Such a great article ❀️πŸ˜ͺ

Repeat after me. Muzzled dogs are NOT BAD DOGS.

Muzzled dogs have good humans.

Muzzled dogs can have more experiences because they are managed. Their quality of life is INCREASED because of the muzzle.

Muzzled dogs can still have treats.

Muzzled dogs are not miserable.

Muzzled dogs are muzzled for ALL KINDS OF REASONS. Not just aggression. Maybe they eat too much stuff off the ground and get sick. Maybe they play too rough. Maybe they over correct when startled. Maybe they want to eat squirrels. Maybe they need to learn better social skills. Not all dogs in a muzzle have a bite history, some have them on to prevent that in the first place. Sometimes the muzzle is more for the HUMAN than the DOG because it allows them to feel more confident. Big dogs, small dogs, and all breeds and sizes need muzzles sometimes. It is not a breed specific tool.

Muzzled dogs are GOOD DOGS WITH GREAT HUMANS who are setting their dog up to not fail. Judging a dog in a muzzle and their owner is the same as judging someone for wearing a helmet. They are choosing safety and being proactive and it takes WORK to get your dog to a level that they are happily working and walking around in a muzzle so kudos to the humans and dogs I work with who put that time in to better their dogs lives.

If you see a dog in a muzzle, don’t stare, don’t ask rude questions, just say β€œnice job, great looking dog!” And carry on. Believe me, you will have just made that humans day.
