We, at Thermal Communications, are concerned about the rigors of daily life on your horse. So we use Infrared technology to help you, the horse owner, become aware of the impact of these stresses and strains your horse is experiencing as a result of the demands you make on him from the tack you ask them to wear, the trim your farrier does, the training techniques your instructor suggests or just

the play that your horse enjoys with his paddock companions. The better you understand their impact, the quicker you can take steps to correct them and ensure your beautiful horse can have a happy, comfortable and long life in work and in play. TC is also able to assist you in assessing the fit of your saddle/s and we specialise in customizing the fit in order to ensure your horse is as comfortable as possible in his work. As independent saddle fitters we strive to find the right saddle for your horse. I work with all saddles and work with you, the owner, so that you can learn to read the signs communicated by your horse when he tells you he is truly happy in the saddle. Saddle fitting is an Art and a Science and there is significant value in getting your saddle fully assessed using infrared technology to truly understand what you expect your horse to endure.

This confirms my thoughts that horses might not come out of the stable or night camp in the morning the way they went in the night before..... do not always assume your horse is 100% and ready to work for you because he was fine the day before.

It is time for riders to realise that if a horse needs aids like drawreins, then they are not comfortable in themselves or the way they are dressed for work. Horses are VERY sensitive animals and even a small amount of pressure in the wrong place will cause them to hollow away.

Most events modernize and open up the warm-up arena to the big audiance. Unfortunatly this is not always with the hoped reactions. Horses that undergo the ‘rollkur’ or are ridden with a…

Just because it’s being marketed for use on a horse, it doesn’t mean it’s ok to use it on your horse.
Just because it works on your friends’ horse, it doesn’t mean it’ll work on your horse.

I've been so busy imaging and fitting saddles, trying to make horses as comfortable as possible in CT through to George, Knysna, Plett and Uniondale, that I've not had time to share my thoughts, experiences and findings. But here goes..... time to start sharing...

Yes... horses have only 1 mouth so it must be preserved in order that the rider can communicate effectively with the horse. But they also have only 1 back and communication gets scribbled if the back can't carry the 1 team member comfortably. A properly fitted saddle is the key.

Researchers determined that exercise causes horses' back dimensions to change, which could negatively impact saddle fit.

Image © Diane Schell This is something Manolo is quite fanatical about, always adjusting nosebands, flashes, browbands and making sure the buckles do not push into delicate structures or the poll strap does not push against the horse’s ears (and of course checking bit fit). A quick look at what cran…

Our horses don't have choices.... so please make sure that what you choose for them is in their best interests. This goes for what you make them wear on their back, in their mouth as well as how you train and ride them. This is just one article that echoes this so clearly.

Horses have been my life since childhood. Living on a 160-acre farm in Nebraska, and having a large animal veterinarian for a stepfather, was my perfect world. Lots of horses, open pastures, blue skies and leisurely rides – my own personal heaven on earth. After high school, however, reality set in…

My wife, a professional hippologist and thermographist, a scientist, and member of the American Academy of Thermography, had examined several dozen sport horses. Of 300 horses examined only 1 turned out to be healthy, in the relative sense of this word. –A.Nevzorov
