SKIN

An organ of protection
Protects the innerbody/organs from pathogens, toxins, radiation, controls temp and much more

Physically: when breeched i.e. bite, cut, graze, prick this opening allows entry into all of the innerbody....door is open!

Emotionally: when physically breeched, there is a great degree of insecurity; suggesting, they do not feel safe within themselves, feel open to onslaught with little protection

Bearing in mind, this is not only in dogs but humans, all animals including trees and plants etc.

There is always an underlying cause for breech of skin (chronic) - always; therefore - treating the skin will never heal or cure the issue

Allopathic chemicals drugs etc. may relieve it - but never cure it; they will suppress the signs (you believe it's healed), and therefore create side effects that may take months to express as "new" conditions

BAD BREATH
Have you gone to just love and cuddle your dog and OH my GOSH!; recoiled by that smell…… where the hell was that coming from? You gingerly go closer to your beautiful dog, and note the smell is coming from its mouth;
Uuumm… not nice!

Allopathic looks to gum/ teeth issues and some, to what was eaten
Functional medicine looks beyond, what is going on in the body to result in this ‘smell’?
Remembering, bad breath is a symptom not a diagnosis!

A healthy body that is functioning efficiently, will not result in any abnormal signs/ symptoms

Let us just explore some of the possibilities for an unpleasant smell from the mouth:

Firstly, what other signs/ symptoms have you seen on your dog, or are seeing currently?
(All these signs collectively will give an indication of what is going on within the body)

Some reasons for bad breath:
Metabolic disorders
Post-nasal drip (due to allergy)
Diabetes
Gum disease/ dental problems
Kidney conditions
Liver conditions
Acid reflux/ GERD
Gastrointestinal disorders
Sinus infection
Thrush
Bronchitis
Indigestion
Constipation
Imbalance of microbiome and immune system
Medication side effects
Etc…..

Once established what the possible cause of the stinky unpleasant breath is, addressing the cause will clear the smelly breath along with any other symptoms!

All remedies are dependent on what the underlying cause is of the smelly breath
Homeopathic remedies: Belladonna; Sepia; Hepar Sulph; carbo veg; Pyrogenium; Kali phos; Lycopodium; Puls; Merc Sol: Kreosote; Carbolic acid; Nux vom; Sulphur (homeo remedies are to be given based on the symptoms, behaviour etc.; personalised)
Herbal: Cinnamon; Green tea; aloe vera; parsley; fenugreek; basil; mint; rosemary; cilantro
Nutritional: Zinc supplements (gluconate/ citrate); digestive enzymes; probiotics; minerals and vitamins (as per deficiencies)
General: decrease stress; exercise moderately; remove all toxins from cleaning products; remove toxins that your dog may ingest, come in contact with or have applied to them

Share your cures and oh no! moments for your beautiful dogs smelly breath…….
