BE CAREFUL OF SEALS ON CAPE TOWN'S BEACHES

A walk on the beach with your beloved pet, when possible, on a Cape Town summer day, might be an excellent idea: fresh air, exercise and amazing scenery.

People in and visitors to the Western Cape have, however, been warned to keep their pets and themselves away from seals on beaches, which could be carrying Rabies (a few cases have been reported). Rabies can spread through saliva between animals, as well as between animals and humans.

Besides staying clear from seals, people are also encouraged to make sure their pets’ vaccinations against Rabies are up-to-date.

is endemic in South Africa and has recently been confirmed in Cape fur seals. Be aware and informed this season to keep yourself, loved ones, and pets safe. Avoid getting close to seals and be vigilant.
