POV: MICROCHIP SEARCH 🐾

Need to search who a pet's microchip belongs to? If the number starts with 956/944 go to communipet.co.za and type the microchip number in the search field in the middle of the screen. If it says "no record found" it means that the owner of the pet did not register the microchip after it was inserted and in this case you can send us a message 065 836 8348 and we will help you track down the owner.
So if your pet has a 956/944 microchip in it, it means that they belong to the CommuniPet microchip database which is communipet.co.za

If you have any other microchip number you can search on:
chipndoodle.com / petlookup.co.za / amla.org.za

CommuniPet products are ISO certified ✅
ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 are international standards that regulate the radio-frequency identification (RFID) of animals.
ISO microchips and related products are the most recognized internationally. The chip is essential for moving a pet to a new country. The tiny chip helps identify pets who get lost or taken away when moving between countries. The ISO chip has a code that any vet or animal shelter can scan.

Safety Tips for the Holidays

As you gear up for the holidays, it is important to try to keep your pet's eating and exercise habits as close to their normal routine as possible. Also, please be sure to steer pets clear of the following unhealthy treats and dangerous decorations.

• Be Careful with Seasonal Plants and Decorations:

Kitties love this sparkly, light-catching "toy" that's easy to bat around and carry in their mouths. But a nibble can lead to a swallow, which can lead to an obstructed digestive tract, severe vomiting, dehydration and possible surgery. It's best to brighten your boughs with something other than tinsel.
Don't leave lighted candles unattended. Pets may burn themselves or cause a fire if they knock candles over. Be sure to use appropriate candle holders, placed on a stable surface. And if you leave the room, put the candle out!
Keep wires, batteries and glass or plastic ornaments out of paws' reach. A wire can deliver a potentially lethal electrical shock and a punctured battery can cause burns to the mouth and esophagus, while shards of breakable ornaments can damage your pet's mouth and digestive tract.

• Avoid Holiday Food Dangers:

Skip the Sweets!
By now you know not to feed your pets chocolate and anything sweetened with xylitol, but do you know the lengths to which an enterprising pet will go to chomp on something yummy? Make sure to keep your pets away from the table and unattended plates of food, and be sure to secure the lids on garbage cans.
Leave the Leftovers...
Fatty, spicy and no-no human foods, as well as bones, should not be fed to your furry friends. Pets can join the festivities in other fun ways that won't lead to costly medical bills.

• New Year's Noise:

As you count down to the new year, please keep in mind that strings of thrown confetti can get lodged in a cat's intestines, if ingested, perhaps necessitating surgery. Noisy poppers can terrify pets and cause possible damage to sensitive ears. And remember that many pets are also scared of fireworks, so be sure to secure them in a safe, escape-proof area as midnight approaches.

A tiny microchip is quickly and simply inserted under your pet's skin, or in the neck for horses. This gives your pet their own unique code. The microchip can be scanned and matched to the owner's contact details, which are kept on a national database, such as

How does microchipping work?
Microchipping is one of the most important elements of pet reunification. While microchips have incredible potential for getting lost pets home, the chip itself is only one component in a complex system involving microchips, scanners and registries.

What is a microchip and how does it work?
A microchip is a small device about the size of a grain of rice that is implanted beneath your pet’s skin (between the shoulder blades). It contains a unique number used to identify the animal. This number links to your contact information in an online registry that allows shelters, clinics, veterinarian organisations to contact you if your lost pet is found. The microchip itself does not store your contact information (safely).

What’s the difference between a microchip and a GPS?
A microchip is not a GPS or tracking device. You cannot get information on a lost pet’s exact location directly from the microchip. It is only when your lost pet is found, scanned and searched in an online registru that someone will be able to contact you. This is why it is critical to link your current contact information to an online microchip registry. (www.communipet.co.za)

My pet already has an ID collar tag. Do I also need to microchip?
Yes! When collars and tags are damaged or lost, the microchip is your pet’s only form of permanent identification.

I want to get my pet microchipped. Where can I go?
