With the next show coming up on the 8th May we would like to clarify a sign that was completed incorrectly done by a few Handlers before. SIGN 213 - many Handlers take one step back 3 times when it actually reads 1 back step halt, 2 steps back halt, 3 steps back halt. Please watch the video with Sam & Ben attached and make sure you know your signs, if you are not sure ask on Facebook we are always here to help! from Rally Dog Trainer @ CHDC, Britta.
Remember Rally Dogs Have More Fun! 😊

Ever heard of the Rally Dog training? This team sport for dogs is gaining popularity. The reason? Dogs of all breeds and ages can practice it! Because the focus of Rally Dog training is not the physical strength. You don’t have to be an athlete, to team up with your dog.
Rally Dog Training improves the communication with your dog.
During practice, you learn that this sport is all about giving your dog the right motivation to perform the right command at the right time. The team (dog & handler) focuses on developing communicative strategies to fulfil tasks and complete a course. No matter the level at which you practice Rally Dog, the key to success is to learn how to sync your pace with your dog’s.
Rally Dog(also known as Rally Dog Obedience or Rally-O) is a dogsport based on Obedience. Unlike regular Obedience, instead of waiting for the judge’s orders, the competitors proceed around a course of designated stations with the dog in heel position. There are about 100 different signs in total however each course consists of 10 to 20 signs that instruct the team what to do. Rally Obedience is quite an easy training for you and your dog. You walk your dog through the course at a brisk pace and stop at appointed stations where there are signs with instructions on the skill to perform. It is a non-pressurised and fun sport.
Rally Dog was started in the early 1990’s in Canada, USA and some European countries as an alternative to normal competition obedience (less regimental) and quickly grew as a sport separate from all other disciplines, with most competitors doing it as fun sport with others serious competing, which resulted in classes. The FCI in 2017 decided to incorporate Rally into their fold and since our own KUSA is affiliated to FCI, we can now qualify and compete at International Championships, if any of us wish to do so.
We have started Rally Dog in the Western Cape at Cape Handlers Dog Club and it is our intention to promote the sport throughout South Africa. Rally was recently ratified by KUSA (Kennel Union of South Africa).
