Dog walkers have been warned to be cautious when taking their pets for walks in the popular Tokai Forest after reports that several dogs had fallen ill after swimming in the Prinskasteel River.

URGENT:

Please take note that the avian influenza outbreak is progressively getting worse.
We urge you to take caution. The virus spreads to different species of birds and so it is highly possible it could spread to parrots.
We advise that you sanitise before interacting with your birds and to use a disinfectant like F10SC (safe for pets)when cleaning the enclosures. We urge you to not let you birds interact with wild birds such as starlings, pigeons, ect. (As they carry various diseases)

There is no known cure for avian influenza and it is highly infectious.
If your birds do display any of these symptoms place them in quarantine (in a room away from all other animals) and disinfect yourself and everywhere the bird has been, and call a vet

Common symptoms of AI include:

* Cloudy eyes
* Seizures
* Birds appear tired and refuse to eat.
* Discharge from the nose, eyes and mouth.
* Swelling of head, eyes, legs, combs and wattles.
* Coughing, sneezing and diarrhoea.
* Sudden death.
