One of our facilitators had the opportunity to chat to a youth on our programme about what it is they wish to do when they finish school. They replied that they want to work with animals and more specifically, be a vet. They know of a big piece of land in the Eastern Cape where some of their family live and one day they want to build an animal shelter there to look after all the dogs and cats that need help ❤️

We are always so proud to hear the hopes and dreams of our youth, and there’s something extra special about those shared with us that involve caring for animals in need. Our programmes foster empathy and instil a sense of responsibility for vulnerable animals so hearing a dream like this one certainly confirms that we’re doing something right ❤️

Long chats, many questions and a whole lot of acceptance ❤️ Eazy and Siya have become two very special, male role models for the children who attend our sessions. Their safe presence and expression of interest is invaluable for young children who may not necessarily have the space to be heard, encouraged or understood in the contexts they go back to.

The Underdog Project creates a safe environment for vulnerable children to switch off their fight or flight, feel their emotions, receive the unconditional love of an animal and quite simply.. just be a child again.
