What an amazing morning we had alongside Highlander Equestrian Centre.
"Look up into heaven. You'll see them above. The horses we lost, the horses we loved. Manes and tails flowing, they gallop through time. They were never yours - they were never mine." - unknown
Walking into the stable block this morning was just not the same. It is going to take some time to get used to not seeing your face as we turn the corner.
Crowd Pleaser, you truly lived up to your name. You found your way into everyone's hearts in the shortest amount of time.
Rest easy, sweet boy.
Until we meet again.
All our horses absolutely loved their spoils.
Guys please have a proper look at your horseboxes before you think you can load your horses in. I have recently looked at 3 trailers that all sed their trailers were in perfect running order to load and tow your horses in. Gosh I donβt think Iβd even load a mini horse in them!
Trust me when you see rust⦠it certainly runs deeper than what you are able to see when it is bubbling the metal!
DO NOT RUBBERISE!! Water gets in between the rubberizing and metal and you have a huge hidden hell of rust!!! Rather use a proper rust paint!
This is why I have started refurbishing boxesβ¦ and selling them on with a happy wholesome heart that the horses will be safe!! And to be frank only looking pretty wonβt save your horse when the box structure is falling apart!!

π΄ I love reading about misconceptions when it comes to feeding horses, but today Iβd like to debunk some common myths about good old sodium chloride.
π§ Myth #1: Salt only needs to be fed when the weather is hot.
π΄ Truth #1: Salt needs to be fed 365 days a year because it is vital for many bodily processes and is excreted in sweat, saliva, mucous and urine. Even in the midst of winter, horses need salt.
π§ Myth #2: Horses instinctively know to drink water regularly, especially when they are hot and sweaty.
π΄ Truth #2: A horseβs thirst reflex is triggered by sodium, which is a component of salt. Horsesβ sodium requirements need to be met in order for them to seek water.
π§ Myth #3: A horse can meet their sodium and chloride requirements with a salt block alone.
π΄ Truth #3: Unlike cattle, horses do not have an abrasive tongue and are not designed to lick harsh surfaces to extract nutrients. While it is technically possible for a horse to consume their daily salt requirement from a salt block, it is much less work and more physiologically-appropriate for them to consume loose salt that is either provided in a meal or left out free-choice.
π§ Myth #4: Horses know what nutrients they need and can self-medicate with supplements such as vitamins and minerals.
π΄ Truth #4: Salt is the only nutrient horses have been studied and proven to actively seek out when it is required. They will not seek out other nutrients βbecause they know they need it.β Look at how much salt and molasses (palatable additives) are added to free-choice supplements.
π§ Myth #5: Himalayan rock salt is better for horses than plain salt.
π΄ Truth #5: Himalayan rock salt contains naturally occurring components other than sodium and chloride. Some may view this as a positive; however, it is usually a more expensive means of supplementing salt, and often contains traces of iron which almost never needs to be supplemented given horses are generally oversupplied iron by their forage intake alone.
π Your horseβs diet should be providing a minimum of 10g of salt per 100kg of body weight each day; typically more after exercise, intense weather, or illness. Ensuring your horse always has access to clean, cool, and fresh drinking water will ensure they remain well-hydrated and if by chance they intake more salt than necessary, the water they drink allows them to excrete excess very effectively. The best kind of salt to feed is plain sodium chloride such as table salt, unless the diet is deficient in iodine which makes iodised salt more appropriate.
At Kasabafrenchcuisine, we have a choice of teff, paddock grass, and for desserte KroonLek πππ

The horses were not so keen on an early morning photo shoot π π π
Stunning morning at the yard. Sometimes, you just need to look at things from a different angle.
Photizo therapy for a few of the horses.
ALL ABOUT INCREASING YOUR PERFORMANCE HORSES ENERGY
π€Always remember that forage is the basis of your equine athleteβs diet. You can add good quality roughage in the form of a roughage cube to increase the quality of the roughage and eliminate dust.
πA performance horse should be on a higher, energy dense diet already but a lot of people complain that their horse lacks the ability to βfinishβ a show with the same energy it started?
πAn equine athlete needs to be given energy in the form of sugars and starches to assist in muscle contraction during exercise to optimize performance.
To start assisting your equine athlete perform at its peak it is recommended to start adding an energy dense diet rich in starch and sugar at least 4 days prior to the event and leave them on this type of diet 100% during the event to deliver the required energy for the horse to sustain its performance over the event.
πEven though fat has 3 times the energy as sugar and starch, it takes time for a horse to be able to utilize this form of energy due to the fact that a horse does not have a gall bladder and the liver has to adjust to be able to digest and utilize the fat source. Also remember that horses are not designed for high fat diets as this places too much strain on the liver. A little goes a long way!!!
πFeed your horse at least 60-90 minutes before the energy is required and remember that it is important to feed the horse as soon as possible after it has expended the energy to optimize recovery and allow for glycogen replenishment to occur in the muscles for the next class/event of the day.
She is just absolutely gorgeous π Putting Green aka Lady Jayne owned by Kyly Hennings is definitely a runway model π.
A very big thank you to Charles Greig Jewellers and Highlander Equestrian Centre for the collaboration.
The magical pull between woman and steed has long inspired fables, ballads and warriors of old. Charles Greigβs Winter24 campaign pays homage to the power of the Equestrienne and the eternal allure of freedom.
Discover Charles Greig at a boutique store in Hyde Park or Cape Town.
The key to success is knowing exactly what your horse is eating every day.
Evening spoils for the ponies.

What amazing memories, these photos brought back. had some amazing training shows filled with loads of fun, prizes, and laughter π
Thank you, Vicky, for sharing the photos.
This year South Africa plays host to the 2024 Polocrosse World Cup.
Taking place at the Shongweni Fields, the World Cup event will run from 17-28 July and is set to be a week of fast paced, adrenaline pumping action.
For those of you new to the sport - Polocrosse is played on horseback and is a combination of Polo, Lacrosse and Netball although some would say Rugby.
Each player is also equipped with a polocrosse racquet, or stick as some like to refer to it. The stick is made up of a cane shaft measuring 75-100cm long and a round head that is 19cm in diameter. The head is fitted with a loose string net. The netting is used to hold the ball as it is scooped up from the ground, passed between players and carried across the field to the goal posts.
The match ball is made of sponge rubber and is approximately 10cm in diameter, weighing around 170gm.
Interestingly, Theo Cornforth; a young Polocrosse player himself, who got tired of playing with bad balls after ball manufacturer Milner stopped making their balls, decided to try his hand at creating an A grade match ball. Hailing from the UK - Theo's balls have been very well received by the Polocrosse community so much so that they were selected as the Match Ball for the impending World Cup. And perhaps a little known fact - Theo makes every single TC ball by hand himself. π₯
