Walk with purpose..In 2023, we as consumers all need to make purposeful decisions. That also accounts for our purchasing decisions and being informed is the first step in making good buying decisions. Every material we use is carefully selected for quality, sustainability and durability and we would like to educate our customers as to why we choose specific materials:

Why cactus leather?🌵
The use of animal leather is related to serious sustainability problems.
- Extensive livestock farming causes deforestation, overuse of water and land and gas emissions.
- The tanning of leather also requires large amounts of water. A ton of leather requires about 50 cubic meters of water.
- The chemicals used to tan the leather is also harmful and non biodegradable.

Benefits of a plant-based alternative:
- Prevention of deforestation associated with livestock farming
- Reduced water consumption
- Elimination of chromium, tannins, sulfides, and alkaline that eventually end of polluting rivers.

The end result - A sustainable material that offers the same properties of strength, durability and flexibility needed for performance & longevity.

Cats have a natural instinct to scratch and giving them a suitable alternative is the first step to getting them from scratching the furniture. We have compiled some top tips to consider when training your cat to start using the scratcher.TOP TIPS to get them off the couch 😺:

1. Consider where you place the scratcher. Place it in an area where your cat frequents on a regular basis like their favourite sleeping spot. Cats love to scratch after a good nap.😴

2. Cats like to scratch horizontally and vertically. Make sure you observe your cat's behaviour and place the scratcher at an acceptable height against the wall or in a safe place on the floor if they prefer.

3. In multi-cat households, it is advisable to provide one scratching post per cat positioned in different locations.

4. Cat nip encouragement! It takes some time for cats to get used to a new object in the house. A bit of catnip will immediately attract the cat to the scratcher and give him comfort to use it.

5. Positive reinforcement! Once you have a suitable alternative in place, it is important to reward your cat or praise him while he/she is using the scratcher.

6. If the couch is still being used, you could try placing tin foil or double-sided tape over the area where the cat normally scratches. The trick is to remove the pleasurable component and replace the action with something not quite so nice.

Always remember it is a natural instinct for our kitties to want to scratch.

Train them, praise them and both you and your kitty will be happy :-)

Our Gunner cushion is the perfect addition to any home with large dogs! Hairs, drool and dirt can easily get wiped off with a cloth and some mild detergant. Best thing of all is this cushion is very good with resisting odour as the smell doesn't pull into the fabric.
