Week 28 Riyadh
Helo almal!
"Saudi Arabia is considered a holy country by Muslims due to the presence of the two holiest cities in Islam, Mecca and Medina.
Mecca is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad and the focal point of the Hajj pilgrimage, while Medina is where the Prophet emigrated and is buried. These cities hold immense religious significance for Muslims worldwide.
Here's why Saudi Arabia is considered holy:
Mecca:
Contains the Kaaba, which is the most sacred site in Islam. It is the direction (Qibla) Muslims face during prayer and the destination of the Hajj pilgrimage.
Medina:
Houses the Prophet's Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi), where the Prophet Muhammad is buried.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques:
The King of Saudi Arabia holds the title "Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques," signifying the importance of Mecca and Medina to the Saudi state and its leadership.
Hajj Pilgrimage:
Millions of Muslims travel to Mecca and Medina each year to perform the Hajj, further solidifying the country's religious significance."
" King Salman ibn Abdulaziz Salman ascended to the throne more than 60 years after the death of his father, Ibn Saud, who founded the country. He designated his son, Mohammed bin Salman, as his successor, making Salman the last of his generation to rule Saudi Arabia.
Salman of Saudi Arabia (born December 31, 1935, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) is the king of Saudi Arabia (2015– ) and is expected to be the last of the sons of Abdulaziz ibn Saud, the founder of Saudi Arabia, to rule the country. Because Salman acceded to the throne at an advanced age, his son Mohammed bin Salman has assumed many of his father’s duties as the head of state and government"
Kaaba in Mecca
The Kaaba is a cube-shaped building located at the center of the Masjid al-Haram (the Great Mosque) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is the holiest site in Islam, and Muslims around the world turn towards it during their daily prayers.
More details about the Kaaba:
Significance:
The Kaaba is considered the "House of God" (Bayt Allah) and is a focal point for Muslim worship and pilgrimage (Hajj and Umrah).
Construction:
Islamic tradition holds that the Kaaba was originally built by the Prophet Adam and later rebuilt by the Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) and his son Ishmael (Ismail).
Structure:
The Kaaba is a large, cuboid structure, about 15 meters tall and 12 meters wide. It is made of granite stones and covered with a black silk cloth called the Kiswa, which is replaced annually.
Black Stone:
Embedded in the eastern corner of the Kaaba is the Black Stone, believed by Muslims to be a meteorite sent by God.
Rituals:
During the Hajj, pilgrims circle the Kaaba seven times counterclockwise.
