Woodrock Animal Rescue was founded in 1992 by Nicholas and Estelle (Stella) Meldau, whose focus, passion and drive afforded their animal rescue vision to become a reality. The rescue centre originated in the suburban area of Woodmead and Khybe

r Rock, hence the name Woodrock. Today Woodrock Animal Rescue is one of the oldest independent domestic animal rescue centres in South Africa. We are a registered non-profit, pro-life, rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing shelter, based on 8.5 hectares in the beautiful Hennops River Valley, 25 minutes from Fourways Johannesburg on the R511 Hartbeespoort Road. We provide assistance to unfortunate, homeless, abused, neglected, stray, injured, ill, geriatric and unwanted animals (predominantly canines) that would otherwise have miserable lives and premature deaths. Nala is very independant. She does not like to be picked up. She does accept touch and that's about it. She has a strong personality but is a very calm cat that keeps to herself. Would be okay to be an only indoor cat.

This baby arrived at our clinic with a broken leg that was left for too long so had to be amputated … but we don’t think anyone has told Roo yet, because he hasn’t noticed that he only has 3 legs now!! 🤣

Thomas was found as a stray, we can tell he has not had the easiest life has he has a few scars on his back. He can be a bit cheeky when around lots of other dogs but we think he just gets overwhelmed. He would be good as an only doggy or with one companion.

Thuthu is a sweet, friendly girl. She ended up at shelter by no fault of her own. Her dad lost his house and both Thuthu and her brother found themselves homeless. She is social with all dogs and loves to sniff and explore on her daily walks.

Willow came out of a compound we service.
This skinny and terrified girl had clearly never been touched by a person yet was condemned to having babies so her ‘owner’ could likely sell them 😡
Willow has gone from strength to strength. It took a few weeks to get a tail wag and watching her begin to trust us was so heartwarming. She so wanted love but she was so unsure and fearful. Willow, your life will never be the same. You will never know fear again, never know hunger and you will soon have a family that will love you unconditionally!
