Whatever the reason, tanks towards the smaller scale are the size of choice for these aquatic gardens, mostly around the 30-80 Liter mark of which the smaller (or Nano) tanks are usually for office desks or small end tables. l remained an issue of concern. Commonly found fish at pet stores (most barbs, catfish, chiclids, livebearers and even some tetra’s) proved too destructive for these delicate underwater pieces of art, which opened up the import market. Unfortunately, a lot of (imported) fish don’t travel well. Be it from poor breeding environments in outside ponds pumped full of anti-biotics, inbreeding, disease, water chemistry, ammonia-poisoning from long flights…the list is endless.
